XTC - Roads Girdle the Globe (1979) (Partridge).
Просмотров 382Месяц назад
PLEASE BE AWARE THIS VIDEO HAS FLASHING LIGHTS AND IMAGES. This video is another experiment with software, combined with a labour of love for a band that I have been a fan of over the years. In this case it's the Swindon band, XTC. This song is from the classic (well, they're all classics!) XTC album, 'Drums and Wires' which was released in August of 1979 and is their third album. (Although thi...
Montrose: Rock the Nation (1973) (R. Montrose).

PLEASE BE AWARE THIS VIDEO CONTAINS FLASHING IMAGES. This is a non-profit, fan-made tribute video to the seminal American rock band, 'Montrose'. This track is taken from their classic self-titled debut, which was released in 1973 and it still sounds as fresh and vibrant as it did when it was first released. Featuring guitar-player Ronnie Montrose and the debut of lead vocalist, Sammy Hagar, the...
Iconic Comix: Power of the Panel #2 - Pat Mills, Kevin O'Neill & Marshal Law

This film contains flashing images, adult themes and is non-profit for education and entertainment only. This is the second film in an ongoing series of highly subjective views of some of my favorite comic book panels. This film is about the classic British comic, Marshal Law. Not only is the narrative. 'Fear and Loathing' an important contribution to comics culture in it's own right, but, argu...
Iconic Comix: The Power of the Panel #1 - Steve Ditko and Spider-Man
Просмотров 762 месяца назад
This is a sporadic and highly objective series of short film/essays, which highlight and discuss famous (or significant) examples comic book art. In this film, I look at the work of the enigmatic Marvel writer/artist, Steve Ditko, and add my thoughts to the wealth of online opinion that already exists about the man who arguably gave us some of comicdom's most iconic characters and stories.
Watching the Voices: Examining the Comic Impressionist
Просмотров 293 месяца назад
This is the first in a series of short films which take a critical, academic account of the mainstream media comic impersonator. The concept is covered here with examples and theoretical underpinning, and is set up for a typology of impersonation which will seek to add nuance and details to, what has been, one of the most undervalued and difficult to quantify of the comedic arts. This material ...

THIS VIDEO DOES CONTAIN FLASHING IMAGES. This is another one of my all-time favourite tracks from BOC. Like my previous video to this (also posted here on RUclips, 'Career of Evil') it's drawn from the 1974 Columbia album, 'Secret Treaties' and it continues my ongoing re-obsession with Blue Oyster Cult. Along with finding out the different things that Premiere video editing software can do. Thi...

Career of Evil (1974) (Bouchard/Smith). THIS VIDEO DOES CONTAIN FLASHING IMAGES. The track itself is one of my personal favourites and is is taken from the Columbia album, 'Secret Treaties' and it continues my current re-obsession with Blue Oyster Cult and finding out the different things Premiere software can do. This is a fan-made video, so there's no profit involved. Thematically it's keepin...

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE FLASHING IMAGES IN THIS CLIP. This is a fan-made, non-profit tribute video to the legendary US rock band, Blue Oyster Cult. I had such a great time making a Godzilla video recently (also posted on this site), that I really wanted to do another film for one of their songs that is less talked about than the usual big hits, but (to me anyway) is no less brilliant. Th...
The Theme to Goldfinger (1964): an analysis

I used this clip as a piece of side information on my undergraduate module, which featured a week on mainstream film soundtrack music. Much of the information presented here is collated from my own writings, plus a number of very well-regarded names in the academic field. (The bibliography is included at the end of the clip). Don't worry if the quotes whizz by a bit quickly, the great thing is,...

Reading the Phantom: A textual analysis of Brian De Palma's 'Phantom of the Paradise' (1974).

A short film by Dr. Van Norris. Often, I get asked, how would you analyse a piece of primary evidence, i.e. a film sequence, clip or maybe a formal element within a scene? As a response, I thought I’d supply an example on how I would approach this task myself. This model leans on Barthes' semiotic ideas on reading imagery, mainly as a starting point, and it uses extant, accessible primary and s...

BOC opening act for Black Sabbath -1977 Kemper Arena - 10th row - Black-n-Blue Tour! Imagine✌️& ❤ is all you need!
When this song came out I thought it was Black Sabbath. Of course I was thirteen at the time. And yes I watched the movies when I was a kid.
Wow
What is the guitar Buck is playing that looks like a cross between an explorer and a firebird?
Power rangers song
Top job! really well done!
Thanks a lot!
Sorry for adding another comment. I keep coming back to this one, because I love the song, but I also love that you incorporated comic book graphics and design into this. I was very fortunate to strike up a friendship with Marvel Comics writer David Anthony Kraft before his passing away. It began because I had contacted him about his work in the 1970s on the comic book THE DEFENDERS (The Hulk / Dr. Strange / Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner in its beginnings). What he had done was incorporated songs by Blue Öyster Cult into a story arc that spanned a few issues. And he had done it really well! Because he took a bunch of songs that weren't necessarily connected, and gave them a mythos. Which funnily enough, addressed my problem with Blue Öyster Cult. That they weren't an actual cult!!! I remember buying SPECTRES back in the 70s when I was a kid. Because GODZILLA. I was a Godzilla fanatic (still am, the new Godzilla Minus One IS A MASTERPIECE.) but when I listened to the rest of the album, nothing really struck me. And even though I was a kid, I wasn't like, a singles buyer, or flash in the pan. If I liked something, I'd usually buy everything that something did. I had a paper route!!! I was rolling in cash. You could buy 2 or 3 albums for $10.00!!!! (please see cut out bins). I never bought another Blue Öyster Cult album. It disappointed me, I think subconsciously that they weren't this cult! Their songs didn't seem to be about it. But I'm the kind of person who imagines the potential KISS had with their characters to explore the Primal, Erotic, Cosmic and Demonic. But they never did. The potential!!!! They just talked about Love Guns!!! (Ace Frehley will ALWAYS BE COOL.) Decades later, cowbell aside, I'm delving into their history and their catalog. To understand them a bit better. And what I understood was these were just 5 guys from Long Island, and only one of them went with the original concept Sandy Pearlman had for them BEING this cult. And that was Donald Roeser becoming Buck Dharma. Ya know? It's such a cool concept to go with, and in my opinion, they have the best name a band could ever have. Blue Öyster Cult or The Blue Öyster Cult. It's so friggin mysterious. And I'd see these song titles like The Red and The Black. 7 Screaming Diz-Busters. Flaming Telepaths. And think, it's there!!! But it's not there on all the songs. And what David Anthony Kraft did with some of those songs with wonderful titles was give them connection and a mythos. The Revenge of Vera Gemini. I had contacted him because I was writing a blog about these issues, and how "on the mark" some of its "origins" were to actual history or esoteric religions. Whether accidental or purposeful on part of Kraft. And he had said he got a lot of flak for doing this from his editor, who just did not get what it was all about. Or thought Kraft was "cashing in", but I could tell he was a real fan of the band. And that observation, and the friendship, truly got me past my Long Island disappointment, and to just hear them as a band. And they are a great band. They're punk. They're gothic. They're boogie. They're psychedelic. They're metal. And I was a major fan of the Elric of Melniboné books by Michael Moorcock when I was a teenager. I hadn't realised until many years later his involvement with them. But as said, I never bought anything past SPECTRES. But I was around for HEAVY METAL!!! Anyway, sorry for the length, I just wanted to add you are definitely adding to my appreciation of this band. Your videos compliment their music very well.
No problem at all, I'm just pleased my efforts are helping in some small way to keep their back catalogue in the frame. As I get older, I love all of the 'cult' aspect of it all because it is so funny and shows what a clever, knowing band they were. You sense that behind the songs & the musicianship, there was a keen sense of irony in there that didn't overpower the music. A cool story about Kraft too! I do remember that Defenders run. Steve Gerber used to reference Brian de Palma films during the same period in Howard the Duck. Marvel was a very cool, countercultural place in the 70s! (By coincidence I got to see Albert Bouchard last weekend, playing Imaginos and assorted hits and passing on some great stories about BOC. He was selling issues of the Imaginos comic too, so that link has always been there.) But thanks for the complement - it's really appreciated 👍🙏
💯😎‼️ GODZILLA GOTTA GO GO
Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla!!!!!!
Tony Iommi said “god damn!” When he heard this riff 🐉
This ain't the summer of love,
Feelin funny on the inside.
Fact check: subways in Tokyo are underground. You cannot see invading sea monsters from a subway, and vice versa. The lyricist probably meant to mention the Yamanote loop line, which is in fact an elevated train. Tokyo doesn't have a "center of town" but is instead a ring of important areas. It's not clear if the lyricist means to describe the Tokyo station area, "Otemachi," where the biggest Japanese firms are headquartered; the imperial palace grounds, the transport hub of Shinagawa, the shopping meccas of Ginza, Shibuya, or Omotesando, or the skyscrapers of Shinjuku around the metropolitan offices. The announcement that Godzilla is moving from Ginza to Hibiya actually shows he's NOT headed for the center of Tokyo: nothing really major lies along that vector.
Seriously, if your town is being stomped to pieces by an angry dinosaur, TURN IT UP!!!!!
My late friend played Godzilla for over 3 hours straight after pulling some amazing criminal act. I awoke to stereo speakers hiting my skull in the back seat. Total 3 systems and at least 1000 records. My dorm ugh.
My grandson jams to this he sings this going into church 😂
I couldn't imagine possibly liking this song even more until I found this video compilation to back it.
Long live Godzilla
the most underrated band in history!
This is so great!

My fav song off an incredible Drums and Wires LP.
Opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Nashville, they had the laser.. was tripping!
This is really well done, and I hope you find time to do more! It would be great to have entire album playlists with fan built content.
Thank you! I'm thinking of making another couple of tracks at the moment, but it's just a matter of time, really. But, yes, more XTC fan content is always welcome 👍
Hell yes!!!.small towns.big city's!! USA.!!!!.
I hear this song every day. And it gets me jumping. I could kick Godzilla's ass. Walk on theme
Where's Raymond Burr? lol!🤣
And decades later some twat thought we'd get into it more. Filmmaker fans are like that one who came because they have money and it's a night out. Piss off this ain't for you
love the bass on this one
I saw BOC in the late 70s. After their killer set, the encores consisted of all of them trading instruments with each other and all of them playing very adept on their exchanged gear and, to top it all off, the finale was all 5 of them on lead guitars jamming away all at the same time. Fantastic band! More cowbell!!
"There goes Tokyo".....I saw them in the eighties.
.57 Jeff Lynne, from ELO. Yep.
M night shamelone
This just good on so many levels. Plus it's just fun.
Anybody came here after Eminem's Godzilla?! 🤣🤣🤣
To actually see the announcer from the movie and have it subtitled is well worth a viewing, Great job.
BOC forever...........................😍
Awesome. Thanks. So good that I am hoping to see more fan videos like this. 🤩
Great song and video
