great video, I'm flying my super cub to Alaska this summer, I'd love to get your full route if you would be willing to share it.
the route we took this year is posted on RUclips across multiple videos.

I can't believe you already have the wings on! You're a machine
the wings are far from being done. 😀
Sorry to hear about your friend Vic- especially this time of year :-(
Very nice job on the wings, the back riveting bit is pretty cool. I'm sorry to hear you lost a friend due to a fuel issue. Have a Merry Christmas and keep up the great work!
Rivets look great! Happy holidays!!
So sorry for the loss of your friend. Great progress with the wings.
Thanks Vic. Can you share what size the constant tension clamp you are using in the intake hoses? Or where to source these?
McMaster-Carr 11/16" OD content tension spring clamp. On page 61 of my Maintenance Handbook for Van's RV Aircraft.
@ I was asking about your intake hose clamps. It looks like you had a spring clamp sitting next to it. I have these on my drain back tubes already- per your book! A great source of knowledge.
I can't find my stock but I'm pretty sure they are 2" from McMaster Carr. Here's th elink: www.mcmaster.com/products/~/constant-tension-spring-clamps-for-firm-hose-and-tube/
What door seals did you use?
I glued some foam around the door but not real happy with it and am going to try something different this time.
+1 for the book. As the quintessential non-builder/owner, it has saved me many, many headaches and $ already.
As always great info. Your book is well worth buying even for the owner builder. Thanks
Thank you for the great video! One warning, NEVER put your fingers or thumbs between the dies on your pneumatic C squeezer with air on. Treat it like a loaded gun. When changing or adjusting dies REMOVE THE AIR SOURCE FIRST. Build safe my friends.
I don't know Vic. That lower bolt appears to have a fairly lenghly crack at the upper left portion of the head. Most likely a vidoe image thing, based on your experience, but it may be worth a 2nd look. Thanks.
I cleaned and rubbed it.It's not a crack.
I will join this company john from West Africa Ghana
A big HELLO from CYQT. Just found your channel. AWESOME videos. Great commentary. Very COOL helicopter. THANK YOU for sharing your experience, knowledge and passion for flying. Looking forward to future videos. 👍🇨🇦👍
Thanks 👍🇨🇦
I wish that I was young enough to build an RV. Your sharing of your experience and knowledge would make it much better and safer. Even so, I know and understand enough to appreciate and enjoy the information which you provide. Happy holidays and good health to you and Carol.
Great learning. Thanks Vic
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Vic and Carol, we appreciate the Excellent repair manual and safety/condition inspection tips!😊
Happy to help!
Good info Vic. Thank you for sharing it.
You bet
Great information, Thank you.
Got the book! Thanks for the discount code Vic and Carol! This will come in handy while doing my first condition inspection.
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm an RV 9A Builder owner I enjoy every one of your videos I learned so much in just a short spill of what you have to say very good information happy holidays to you and your family too be safe and be happy by the way I'm working on my annual on my plane right now have flown for a while so now I got to go and do my biannual flight prior wait till February to do that Washington State you know cold
Thanks 👍
Any chance at getting a borescope to the right locations? That looks like a pain to do yearly.
yes. I think that might work but for the first time I wanted to get a good look.
THANK YOU!!!
2:09 Vic, is that dirt appearing like a crack on the still pic at 2:09? It appears to emanate from the washer heading in the 10:00 direction.
It did look like a crack!
I assure you it is dirt. I took everything apart as I showed you, cleaned it, felt it with my finger and looked with a very bright light.
Time of Compliance: At or before the next annual condition inspection
awesome vid, thanks.... quick question, if our paint shop is going to prep, etch, clean, and alodine the aluminum in the future, is it worth the effort to fill in little imperfections with the epoxy filler? Curious your thoughts.
I would ask the paint shop
Thanks. Very helpful! Does Intake gasket Part number in the description have a typo? Should be Lycoming Intake gasket PN71973?
yes. good catch. I’ve amended the description.
I’ve built basically my whole rv-14A at this point and I bought a second hand toolkit that came with a 3x rivet gun. No major complaints it works for everything but if I had it to do all over again I might go with a 2X as Vic mentioned just because I’m thinking it might have prevented a couple of the smiles in the build over time.
Hi Vic - question unrelated to this video - what is the black “trim” used around the wind screens of your current RV10? Is it a bead of silicone caulk or piper black tar tape???
you can use either. even a bead of black sika flex will work.
G,day from Sydney Australia. Some great advice, especially keeping current with service bulletins. Q1. What is the purpose of dimpling the aluminium surface of spars, ribs and stringers? Would I just make a rivet spacer jig for perimeter and inside spacing? 🌏🇦🇺
the skins are dimpled so you either have to dimple or countersink the underlying structure. countersinking requires a minimum thickness of the underlying structure.
Thanks Vic. Good stuff.
So cool that you still had the jigs! 😄
I would like to see/hear more info on your rudder trim modifications. I like Cleaveland Aircraft Tools (CAT) a lot, too. Also, I like their RUclips videos about their tools and how to use them. I do not understand why you used double sided tape to build the trailing edge of the rudder. In my opinion, it is structurally insignificant compared to the rivets. It might hold things in place when you are back riveting a trailing edge, but you used the special CAT squeezer set. I found that clekos hold everything in place quite adequately. I recommend alternating the rivets on a trailing edge between shop head up and factory head up. I also found that a half size longer rivet works just fine. It looks like your edge forming tool is different than the one that CAT sells. Is it any better or cheaper? I do not understand why you would need to use such a tool when building a trailing edge. I am also building an RV-10. My RUclips channel is 345DF. My channel is much smaller than yours. I would welcome any suggestions or comments that you have about any of my videos.
Yes you could do it without the tape, but Vans recommends using the tape now. Consider reading section 5 of the plans, page 5-11. They even include the part number for the tape. The clecos hold it but it will slip a little without the tape. this way makes for a nicer straight line. I did alternate the rivets, as I have done on all of the other aircraft. :)
I like that debut tool. After building my 10 it felt dull. How do you change the blade?
ruclips.net/video/itZ2RUrtr0w/видео.html (instructions for changing blades)
@@baselegaviation1614 Whats the lifespan of the cogsdill tool? Can you expect to change blades out through the Rv-10 build?
I would order a spare blade as once in a while you can break a blade. if you are careful they do seem to last.
I like their fasteners but their. instructions leave a lot to be desired.
I have about 300 hours on my 10 and with the Garmin Yaw Dampener, no trim is necessary. Never would have believed it without seeing it for myself…(no tab or wedge installed)
yes, the yaw damper will work as a trim mechanism.
Thanks for the reply Vic. The engine is D4A5 and rated for 2700. It makes 2700 on the take off roll, just not while standing on the brakes. The governor seems to be adjusted correctly. It doesn’t immediately start to drop the RPM when being pulled back. I plan on adjusting the low pitch stops as you suggest. I think doing that will allow it to make full RPM earlier in the TO roll and perhaps shorten the length of the roll.
yes it will.
If my engine is able to make 2700 on takeoff, what is the downside of not quite making the desired RPM on the static runup? Mine makes 2400 static with the same MT prop you have on my 10. I didn’t think much of it until I watched your video.
you are really lugging the engine if you are only making 2400. make sure your tachometer is correct. you are losing a substantial amount of horsepower if it is really running at 2400. see if you can get more rpm’s in cruise flight. if you can, then it is the low pitch stops that need adjusting. if you can’t, then the governor is holding it back and you need to adjust it. which engine do you have? is it rated for 2700?
Is that no laser cut at all or just the Vans recommended replacements? Looking forward to see what you finish up with, the additions that you make! I'm sure you'll finish faster than most do with a quick build.
no laser cut parts at all.
This is stupendous! Can’t wait to see the videos of this project.
Congratulations to you two..!
Why sell helicopter?
I need room in the hangar for the RV-10 build. NO rush. It's either the heli or the Stearman, whichever goes first. :)
Get another hangar and keep them all.
Really Nice Vic! Looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos.😊
Totally relate to the "itch to build again" after 17 years and 1400 hrs TTSN in the RV-10 my wife and I built, which first flew in 2007. And also totally agree the -10 is the best ever magic carpet for cross country travel. Recently I've scratched the itch to build again by learning to speak CAN bus, and swapping out a perfectly good GRT + TruTrak system for a full up GTN650Xi+G3X triple screen system with that amazingly capable GMC507 controller with autotrim. That was about 200 hours of learning and design work and 240 hours of new hands on wiring work but it took our -10 to an entirely new level of IFR capability and ease of use. Pounding another 17,000 rivets doesn't seem appealing, but the "once a project, always a project" principle applied to the RV-10 means there will always be something for us happy builder/pilots to tweak. What a delightful flying machine it is!
Slow build for VIc means... five months?
😂
Looking forward to seeing how it comes together!
Great trip! Thank you for sharing all the legs of your trip. Beautiful cross country, international flying adventure!
Nice vid, * It’s not under pressure behind that seal, only splash.
it will blow out if the crankcase gets pressurized, like from a blocked breather tube.
Geez, those 7 stars throw some light out! I put FlyLEDs Quad's in my RV-6 with one in each wing with the wig-wag module and let me tell you, I hear more about those lights and how visible they are even in the day when I'm coming in than anything else on the plane. Like you said, the night landings are more like day landings. I liked assembling the lights too, was kinda fun. Thanks for you videos Vic, always love your content.
Great video, well presented.🫡
