Feiste Rocks
США
Добавлен 8 сен 2024
There are many bags of rocks around my house that I have collected over the years. Mostly Great Lakes rocks, but a few picked up on other random travels.
In the fall of 2023, my thoughtful husband and wonderful children gifted me a National Geographic Rock Tumbler, and the tumbling began!
I have started to take photos and videos of the process to help learn what works and what doesn’t. I have recently added a few new tumblers, taken a few rock hounding trips, and purchased some rocks for tumbling. Looking forward to learning new things, and rediscovering some beautiful treasures that have been collecting dust around the house.
Hope you enjoy the videos. I will try to share my limited knowledge, and new things I learn. Some experiments will work, and some will not. I will try to include some rock hunting videos, and some ASMR videos along the way.
Let me know in the comments what you enjoy, what questions you have, and what you would like to see. Thanks for joining along!

Cleaning Two Large Ziplock Bags of Dirty, Old Lake Michigan Rocks & Fossils
Просмотров 173 месяца назад
Two large ziplocks bags of Lake Michigan rocks that were used in my mother in laws garden pots. Lots of fossils, and lots of dirt! After multiple soapy washes, I put them in a 12 hour vinegar soak overnight. After soaking they went into a baking soda bath to neutralize the vinegar, while they await their next steps for polishing.

Noticed you added only four heaping tablespoons of polish, so maybe 6 tablespoons total. I would think more polish is need in a 17 lb. barrel. Is 5-6 tablespoons what you've learned is best, or did the Rebel come with grit-level instructions? Have you tried more?
I see him! He's my favorite character from Ice Age! Great video showing some real beautiful rocks and left me grinning about Sid. 🪨
Glad you enjoyed! The Sid rock makes me smile every time! Thanks for watching!
RE: your too thick slurry . You only need about 1/2 TB per batch of rocks which, as you know, should be approx 8 LB with the media added. When the run is finished, put on LOTS of water and run for a while (15min or 1/2 hr is enough) with 1 - 2 TBs Borax and/or dash of Dawn. That will loosen up the slurry and make wash-up much easier. Put your lid on and fasten it down BEFORE you start the machine running . It is hard to tighten the wingnut with the machine running. You might want to change the spindle/center post with one that is stainless steel The one that comes with the machine will rust.
Way way way too much water ! Put the rocks in the bowl and fill with hot water and then drain it all away. Add about 1/2 TB of Grit for 2,3 and polish stages. About 1-2 TBs of Borax will help make the slurry. Start the machine with the lid off and see if the rocks are tumbling and rotating slowly. May add a few spritzes of water at this point. A little splashing is ok but not a major shower coming from the bowl to lid. Check after a couple of hours and in the morning and before leaving it on it's own for overnight and a few "spritzes" of water until rolling looks right.
Thank you! I agree! The green mossy one from this batch is one of my favorites. I would love a wet saw as well, but I’m going to try to practice at a few Lapidary clubs this winter before making the plunge.
Nice 👍 They look really good. I want to buy a tumbler and saw for the agates I find on the beach. There is so much hidden beauty in these rocks.
I'm interested, but why show unpackng and repacking of stages? It could be described in one line of text. I've wasted my time waiting for something to happen. At least have a text explainer at the front: "This video shows blah blah. See video n for final results." What an I missing?
Thanks for your feedback. As I am learning, the starter stages take many, many go arounds. This is the method that I have chosen, to learn and be able to go back and see what processes work and don’t work for future tumbles. The rocks shown in this video are currently still tumbling. When they have been completed I will make a video showing the beginning and final outcome.
Nice to see how it's done.
Thanks 👍
Stage four: freak out
Stage three: no food.
Just gorgeous.

Cuantos pasos son hasta ese brillo y que marca son las maquinas de desgaste y tombola de brillo? 🤔
I translated your question to - Traduje tu pregunta a... How many steps are it to that shine and what brand are the wear and shine machines? I used the National Geographic tumbler for stages 1 and 2, with coarse grit bought from the Rock Shed. Stages 3 and 4 were done in the Lot O vibratory tumbler. 500 aluminum oxide grit and 8000 aluminum oxide grit. I cleaned in a borax rinse between each stage. Hope this helps! And I hope it translates ok!
