EV Ownership vs Level 1 Charging
Просмотров 65День назад
Rethinking EV Charging A commonly held belief by new or prospective EV owners is that purchasing one requires the installation of a “level 2”, or 240 volt, home charger. Sara and Ed chat about recent University of Calgary research that challenges this assumption. They discuss considerations that might go into choosing which option is best for EV owners and people considering EVs, as well as the...

    Hi I'm really glad you discussed this subject. I'd like to offer my best wishes for Sara. I have a few thoughts as someone who has used both level 1 and 2 in the cold, cold climate of Saskatchewan. Level one worked great for me in summer but it was a nice luxury to preheat my car off the grid when I got a level 2 charger installed. Preheating can start out using about 7kw. So the battery goes down on level 1 and your range is reduced as you preheat. Also, level one gets used up by battery warming (around 700 watts for my Nissan LEAF, sometimes constant in extreme cold, but usually cycling on and off.) That takes away from the charging. Finally, my Tesla friends tell me level 1 does little to charge their cars in the cold of winter, even with sentry mode turned off. The car uses a lot for battery heating and presumably for the computer. Thanks again for discussing this on your show!

    Oh Mr.Carter, Pierre Pollieve willing to "Sell his soul" to win? Rhetorical much? Not sure you have been paying attention much to Melony Joly's comments of late (when it comes to selling your soul), in addition the amount of times CSIS warned about Chinese interference over 100 times... But Stephen is going to Stephen... political battle lines drawn... It seems like you need some "Moderation" in your tone. Other than some smarky political comments, "one time royalties".... sigh... - great podcast, turns out constituents are ultimately the boss in democracies, best politicians listen to them.

    Transporting hydrogen long distances makes absolutely no sense. I've seen numbers that at best 20% of the energy input required to produce the hydrogen ends up as an output at its final destination. The economics just dont make sense unless there is a massive amount of public money going into this. Canada would end up losing money to sell hydrogen. The companies that are involved might do alright though. One of the companies involved has a CEO that is very politically connected though. I know they are talking about making ammonia but the problem with that is you cant just shut off the process if there is not enough wind. You end up destroying the catalyst in the reactor.

    You didn't put the link to the UM study which showed that 15% of Americans do not think climate change is real. Regardless, I find that actually encouraging, because it means a bigger fraction of Americans believe climate change is real than the fraction accepting that evolution is real. That is, there are move evolution-deniers in the US than climate change deniers.

    Electrolytic Hydrogen used in reducing metal ores all powered by holographic nucleation energy management Circuitry is the obvious heat and light Electrification use application. Ask Simon Michaux about Microwaves. I've heard about lots of unpublished research alluded to over the years, and you can guess why, if EVs are a problem, Dark Money is another and inverted-reverse logic seems to be the norm, why the world is "going to hell in a handbasket". It seems that if you attempt to make money from the techniques/technology implied in our shared holographic positioning nucleation ecology, "life is short", pulse-evolution operates at higher frequency-amplitude. Wars are failure to "know your Self". The accumulation of intelligence suited to coordination-identification of cooperative integration and defense of holistic metastability, is the logical solution in Totality.

    CO2 from burning of fossil fuels do not cause catastrophic warming of the troposphere. The troposphere is already opaque to most infrared light due to water vapor. Adding tiny amounts more to CO2 concentration will not make the troposphere more opaque. Its already opaque at like 20 meters.

    • @TheDanEdwards
      @TheDanEdwards 4 месяца назад

      " Adding tiny amounts more to CO2 concentration will not make the troposphere more opaque." - false. First, increasing a gas in the atmosphere by 1.5x is not "tiny". Additionally, you ignore that CO2 is well mixed in the atmospheric column, compared to water which precipitates out quickly with altitude. Furthermore, you have no explanation for the warming we see on record.
