So disappointing when I neared the end and they managed to somehow insinuate that Christianity was already here . The white man brought the ideas of the one true God changing your story to suit this is the loss of rich history that will never be found again. Wish id never watched this video.
Vinaka valevu na vuku... my criticism is that when it comes to talking about colonial history of Fiji the iTaukei seem to have amnesia. The truth is that Christianity did not just slip on like a glove and they were used as tools with the State to control the Indigenous people. The legislation was not set up in our favour. It would've been great to see this docuseries cover the resistence to colonialism ie. Navosavakadua, Luveniwai, Tuka Movement.

In 2001 December the 4th it was a monday morning when my dad, my elder brother with myself and two others left for Naqelelevu early that morning. I was 11 at that time. One from us was an old lady that was said to be the wife of a caretaker of the island from the island of taveuni in village of Lovoni. I could not remember their names. At 6am we left kioa island to Taveuni to pick up the old lady from lovoni village and left to Naqelelevu. After 6PM we arrived safely to te islet. It was a rough voyage due to heavy rain. My father is a fisherman and getting to the island is easy for him even without using a compass or a GPS. funny cause soon as we arrived on shore i took off my tshirt and start offloading on languages and my dad told me to ware my tshirt. I asked my dad why and he replied cause mosquitoes they only bite during the day and at night mosquitoes the don't bite. It was said that its the vuu for the island of Naqelelevu. I believe him cause when it was getting dark i realized that their is no mosquitoes at all. But rats are aren't afraid of humans. Everything mention on the video that is about the island is true but a strange statue was a statue of saint Mary is place ontop of a huge rock height of approximately 15 to 20 meters high. There are three lakes on the island or they may call it a dranu. Each dranu have different species inside. The first lake you will mangroves growing in it with turtles leaving inside. My dad told me that they caught few turtles and put them in the lake. The second lake was filled with massive mullet fish a d the last lake is filled with different colored shrimps and was told that is for family business in future. But our trip was to catch lobsters and breed them in a cages with builded next to the shore line. The nearest island the Naqelelevu is Nukusamanu, Nukuboreti and Vetaua. Cikobia is abit far. My late father said that on a clear sunday with no clouds you will be able to see Niulakita island that is the closest island of fiji to Tuvalu. I wish one day i go for a visit God willing during this pandemic its hard travel to Fiji.
I enjoyed this story of Viwa and the early missionaries who sacrificed their lives to create the legacy we now enjoy.I hope to visit Viwa soon.
Vinaka O.B.

The dialect of Cikobia, Macuata is a mixture of the three province of Vanua Levu. The Chief of Macuata province, is originally from Cikobia.
Next to Naqele levu is Vetauua, a place of different colours of rats. Rats that can go to sea at low tide, get into a clam to eat. The clam closes and before the tide comes in the clam is opened and the rat runs ashore. Interesting, isn't it?
