Kleptomania is an awesome album, never finished but none the worse for it, you barely notice the 'lack' of production, just great songs with raw and brilliant energy, the first 2 tracks, Getting Your Way and Slipping Away are one of the best 1-2 opening punches of any album in history, and Getting Your Way Sounds like U2 IMAGINED VERTIGO TO SOUND IN THEIR HEADS, SCABROUS RAW, POWERFUL BUT MELODIC AS HELL, AND SO IT CONTINUES THROUGH THE ALBUM, AWESOME TRACK FOLLOWS AWESOME TRACK, AND THE OTHER 2 DISCS ARE BRILLIANT TOO, MUCH RECOMMENDED! THIS ALBUM WAS MY ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR TWO YEARS RUNNING, AND FAR FROM ITS PREMISE AS A BUNCH OF DEMOS, SOUNDS REALLY COHESIVE AS AN ALBUM AND FLOWS BEAUTIFULLY, A GREAT COMPANION AND EQUAL IN QUALITY TO THEIR FIRST TWO ALBUMS... GO INVESTIGATE!!
It sounds a bit Fleetwood Mac but it's definitely Mansun. From their One Ep 1996 "Egg Shaped Fred" - 3:53 [Different Version] "Ski Jump Nose" - 3:42 "Lemonade Secret Drinker" - 3:46 "Thief" 5:18 [+ Hidden Bonus Track - 1:47] It's also on Attack of the Grey Lantern - Collectors Edition 2010
Been 5 years when I first listened to them on pandora. I was only in 7th grade, this music changed my life in these important years. Maybe in the distant future, my kids will hopefully share the same experience.
I was into aggro indie rock at the time - stuff on AmRep, and listening to Big Black and heavy stuff like that. Lightest music I would listen to was Sonic Youth. Then Brent played this on Brave New Waves on CBC and I was amazed. Just so taken with it. Look at me, listening to calm delicate music! What am I, growing up or something? :) lol. So long ago. Still dig them so much. Saw them live @CMJ 95 w/Tortoise and Laika IIRC... and again in Toronto a few years later.
