    Is lead tensionnin horses similar to leash tension in training dogs? Ive found that the pressure prolonged like that builds anxiety even further and that they are looking for more of a calm reassurance, not to be forced into fear based compliance (which should never be done ofc) in the video above you can see the clear fear the horse is experincing, so attempting to push it out and drag instead of working with instincts opposed to against seems to be triggering more stress similar to how leash tension in abused or reactive dogs can, is this a correct assessment? /genq

    • @AlternativeHorsemanship
      @AlternativeHorsemanship 5 дней назад

      @@GraysonOliver-im1xr Good observations, and yes most people are taught when the horse is resistant, to impose more pressure such as on the lead rope. What they don't recognize is how much the horse's body is mimicking his mind, which means if we have the option to focus on first creating a mentally directable horse before asking for movement, and refining those skills and that communication, it diminishes the resistance of the animal or the "need" to have containment or constant physical pressure to make them comply. That being said, in an emergency situation like the video, with a clearly uneducated horse, and a ton of stimulus, the rescuers were doing the best that they could.

    • @AlternativeHorsemanship
      @AlternativeHorsemanship 6 дней назад

      The nostril tension and size and shape fluctuates relative to the horse's mental and emotional state. You will see changes in the breathing patterns and the nostrils as the horse's emotions are either triggered or they start to calm. If there are pain issues there is typically a tension carried within the jaw, a hardness of the eye, a rigidity of the ears, and especially if it is occurring in the hoof, there would be a lack of or imbalanced movement because of the pain.

    This is something all horse owners do all summer to help horses keep all kinds of Flys off them most owners don't know how to train and have the horse want to be with them and not start to have trouble with them till the owners sell them because they become un rideable

    • @AlternativeHorsemanship
      @AlternativeHorsemanship 2 месяца назад

      Fly spraying is not necessarily something all horse owners do, as many can't get near their horse with the bottle, or the horse freaks out with the sound of the bottle as the lever is squeezed, or the horses shy away from the misting ospray. "Simple" everyday tasks, such as catching the horse, haltering him, leading can cause many people problems. I find that having fewer assumptions about what's "normal" offers an honest assessment of the current state of far too most horses... so many basics are missed, then leading to the unridable/Uncatchable/unmanageable horse similar to the "dangerous" ones sent to me for help every year.

      @brian8051 If you're concerned about money, 43 million acres of BLM land were leased to cattle ranchers in 2022... in just Nevada alone. BLM-Nevada authorizes 2 million Animal Unit Months (AUMs) for livestock grazing or the annual equivalent of approximately 167,000 cow/calf pairs. Source: BLM-Nevada Ranchers are paying around $1.35/head for the lease per year or $450,000 to Nevada BLM. In 2023, just in Livestock Forage Disaster subsidies (tax payer dollars,) Nevada ranchers received $12,184,000. For perspective... BLM-Nevada authorizes 12,811 wild horses and burros to live on 15.7 million acres of public land. Land health wise... In Nevada alone, approximately 22 million acres of public grazing land do not meet health standards. A loophole in the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, the agency isn’t required to complete environmental reviews before reissuing grazing permits to ranchers. As of 2023, 93% of the BLM allotments in Nevada were permitted using this loophole, according to PEER’s report. A BLM employee who worked 30 years for the agency... "From what I have seen of the grazing program, even if I tell my supervisor that I think that an allotment is getting beat up, that it is not meeting land health standards, they don’t want to hear it,” she said. “They won’t do anything about it.” Melissa Bradshaw
