Out with the Subaru STI and in with a Corvette Z06. More than double the horsepower and torque, and half as many driven wheels means it's a lot less forgiving and requires a lot more care with throttle control, but the basics of autocross don't change too much and so I still know how to go fast!

Road Trip to Buy a C7 Corvette Z06!

Matt sells his beloved Subaru STI after 7 years of ownership, ready for a change. The new ride is a 2016 Corvette Z06 in my very favorite color, Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic, and the car is located in Washington DC, so Matt and his best friend Kyle fly out to buy the car and road trip it home. Good times were had!

This 2 day combined event uses your fastest time for each day to come up with an aggregates score for the competition. I finished in 2nd place in the Open Pax class, and 5th place overall (out of 83 racers, Pax Time), and 10th place overall in Raw Time, in my stock 2015 Subaru STI. Not too shabby; the only stock class car in the top 10 raw times. 1st place in the Open Pax class was Jeff (a fant...

lol. No Mate. Real time. It's a fast track!
People will talk mad shit, but you have my respect. You're doing something. Most people are too sorry and or have no skills these days. Keep on.
i was laughing so hard, man, i need to try this sometime.
Thanks
Thats my families history and ferry.
I am the great-grand daughter and great niece to the owner of this ferry. The family Homestead is on the other side if the lake.
Very cool! Do you dive?
Structural Engineer here. Don't do this. Connection is basically a 'pin' with limited moment resistance. Use raking strut to brace post at 90 degrees to path
How many times am I going to see this same method by multiple people
However many times you go looking for it I suppose.
Great job. It looks like you had a hard time drilling those holes with the forstner bit. One thing that can make it easier is to drill a nice hole in a piece of 1x4 (or something similar) and clamp or screw that to to post to use as a guide for the bit.. that works extremely well if you have to enlarge an existing hole or move it one way or the other.. beautiful place you have, btw
I don't remember struggling with the drilling, but a good tip nonetheless.
Thank you!!! Just what I was looking for 😀
Thanks for the video! I am putting signs on a boulder.
stupid dude
What thickness wetsuits are you guys using? I grew up there but haven’t dived there before. Been thinking about doing some dives while I’m back home this summer
We've got 7mm all around. A lot of people who dive here are using dry suits. It can definitely get cold, especially below 40ft there's usually a thermocline that's downright frigid below.
Don't talk to us like we are 5 year Olds.
You used mild steel allthread ? There are much more safe alternatives when you are running a loaded wheelbarrow and yourself down hill!
Thanks for the video! Seems pretty clear the Z06 has the power advantage and should be faster on this big course all other things being equal. I bought a Z06 A8 and this course at ORP will definitely be the fastest I run. I will be curious if the A8 will have the advantage over the M7 on tighter courses due to a shorter second gear. Truth is I will never know because there are always a million other factors dictating how fast someone is 😆
Yeah, for sure. ORP is a place that definitely allows the power to play a role. Generally in our regular autocross races the base C8 and C7 Z06 seem pretty evenly matched. There's not a lot of places that I can go full throttle. So many different factors, and Peter hasn't wanted to let me dual drive his C8 so we can really see what the difference is between us vs the cars playing a role.
BEAUTIFUL CAR!!❤❤
So much fun! I've had my C5 vert on the Trail. Looking forward to taking my C7 DSOM next year. The road to Clingman's Dome is just as fun as the roads are more swooping as well as a corkscrew!
I'll have to look that up so it can be on my radar for a future road trip.
Brilliant! Thank you SO much for sharing!
Make sure nobody ever leans on that chain or children dont play near it , guarantee they'll try swinging on it , to be fair its got the hallmarks of an art installation but its precarious position its not suitable in the dark an adult could trip over it if carrying anything .before you sell the property you ought take it down cut off those spikes at ground level ,if wood rots they'd be lethal my sugestion is take the thing down and dont put this kind of dangerous example of DIY up again ,as people with less intellect will copy its example monkey see monkey do ..but for effort a sold 9
Bad ass video, for sure more like this! Great job both!
P Lattman is a BEAST!! .... wait until he dials in his mid engine monster!!!!..... nice work by both.
We always joke about the fact that Roman Nose is where snowmobilers go to die. In the winter time it gets foggy on the top. In the fog You can ride right off a cliff so easily. They high mark on both the main lake and the upper lake. I’ve got a video of a guy losing it at the upper lake and his snowmobile rolling down hitting a tree and bursting into a million pieces. Also saw a guy take a brand new sled up and wreck it in the first go. Just because you spend 20k on your sled doesn’t mean you know what your doing. It’s an awesome winter wonderland playground in the winter time. But dangerous as hell. When we were kids we found a cross with snowmobile parts above the upper lake under the nose. Presumably where a rider met his end. Not sure how far that drop is but if you fall off the wrong spot you could be falling 400+ feet. Especially if you got some speed going.
Sounds intense! Never ridden in an area like that myself.
Fantastic
ice mode-maybe u shood have had the rotors resurfaced b4 yur run with new pads????IMO
With a lot more testing, this occurs because of the left foot braking. The car gets very angry with both gas and brake applied at the same time and it goes into ice mode. I've been having to retrain my feet not to left foot brake during autocross. Frustrating; shouldn't be possible to have ice mode while in track mode.
i live outside of bend or...have a 19 zo6 with a m-7......never heard of this place b4....
i got a 19 z06 in oct..manuel transm..carbon fiber package..sebring orange...quest..how doo you like the glass roof???mine is expossed carbon fiber..
I like the glass roof most of the time. It's actually plastic. Looks dark black from the outside and like heavy tinting from the inside but visibility is greatly improved with such a low roof line. The contours of the roof distort what you're looking at through it, but that's fine. The downside is that it can be bright on the eyes when the sun is overhead. I keep a hat in the car to put on to give some overhead shade to my eyes.
i live in central or..never heard of the dragon trail..
*Tail of the Dragon. You might also be interested to know that there's an Oregon version of Tail of the Dragon called "Oregon's Little Dragon". But do be careful of rocks in the road over the top of the mountain. It's a great ride! traveloregon.com/things-to-do/destinations/lakes-reservoirs/eastern-oregon-is-a-motorcyclists-paradise/
Where we run the course is very tight. No top end.
My condolences. I'm very aware of how blessed we are to have this venue.
Hahah congrats that was dope
Hahah that's awesome
nice run!!
Nice bike with dog crate on back! Oh wait, that's my bike. and the crate is for Sabaka.
Nice! I got a real kick out of that setup! Sadly, our german shepherd is a little harder to fit on the back.

i just saw the video great. I want to purchase a s1000xr so I was wondering what kind of MPG you got and how often you had to attend to the chain? thanks
I get around 38mpg on average. Less when loaded heavy or going harder/faster. The chain I generally spray with a chain lube and brush it every 500 miles or so; unless on a road trip up to 1500 miles I'll not do anything to avoid having to bring messy lube (weight and space). On a longer trip I sometimes have to plan a stop for a tire change and get them to lube the chain then too. Or sometimes I've brought a can of lube, but it's easier to swing into a shop and ask to use theirs for 30 seconds.
Very good video. Thank you.
Hey Guys, thanks for making this video so those that haven't dove it yet can still get a good visual.
Its smokey beacuse we have alot of forest fires here ALOT
Sounded like a S1RR flyby
Just rode this a few hours ago on the FJR 1300. Fabulous stretch of road that has the pegs dragging at least a dozen times in that ten mile stretch. This is a road that it pays to apex late- lots of hazards.
Yeah, and a couple decreasing radius turns that are quite nasty if you aren't familiar with their location.
I was starting to shop around for a C7 Grand Sport. During my search I found out about the class action lawsuit against GM over the valve lifter issues. That's when my search ended.
Just keep it in Sport mode. Problem solved
I’d like to contact you more about your touring with the 1000xr how do you pack for multiple days with limited luggage and colder temperatures
Happy to answer questions. I'm using the Givi 80L tail bag, the SW Motech tank bag, and the OEM side bags. It's more than enough volume for a single person. This other video I made last year has a good view of how the bike looks loaded up in the first 40 seconds. ruclips.net/video/39DBoR7kGNw/видео.html As far as what I'm carrying, we do a lot of wilderness backpacking so I have a lot of camping and cold weather gear which is compact and lightweight, which makes it much easier to pack onto a motorcycle. A Kelty 2-man tent, small thermarest pad, goose down top quilt. And/or sometimes I take my hammock and underquilt as well. I take thermal underwear, packable down jackets, fleece scarf, warm gloves, wool socks, heated handlebars, etc. I can stay comfortable down to 50degrees, but below that it can start to get cold for extended riding. On the Utah trip video I linked, I spent a lot of time riding in freezing temps, which was not as fun. It was colder than I anticipated that far south in April.
They do make bolts the expand when you tighten, we used them when we install the car lifts in our shop
Hope you didnt follow this example
I like mine. 2015 Z06 3lz. Fun fun fun im.driving it to work tomorrow. It's a fun place to be in the summer. Behind the wheel of a 650 hp beast. I start mine and say. SHES ANGRY. OHHHH SHES SO ANGRY
All of this we take for granite.
Endangered species of trout swims by. LOL as they are videoing all the trash they are finding and leaving. Great job seriously 😳
Unfortunately trash is a part of every dive we do. There's no way to remove it all in a single dive, it would take teams of divers working for days to make a dent.
It's great that you guys take all that trash out of the lake.

Building code requires 200 lbs load capacity in any direction at top of the guardrail post. The 4x4 post will likely fail at bottom connection.
There are no building codes here in unincorporated Bonner County, Idaho. So no worries there. But sure, things could be made stronger, but these are strong enough for my needs and aesthetically pleasing.
Maybe installing a steel pipe post in drilled hole with concrete grout will last longer.
