Добавлен 16 авг 2023
My name is Lindsay MacAskie, and I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida where the sun is hot, the sand is salty, and the people are as colorful as the sunsets at the beach. I have a thrifting addiction. I love vintage clothes and decorations. I love the thrill of the hunt. Thank you for checking out my channel, and God bless!

Good Will Haul! What I Found at Good Will in Bradenton, Florida!
Our good will gets scalped b4 the bins even go out. Those people are evil af. Great radio. Perfect for restoring. Change the big paper and wax round cylindrical caps when u get a chance. They are almost always bad and if they aren’t bad then they are on their way out. If one of those go and it’s across the power supply, it will destroy the rectifier tube. Which, buying tubes by the single can be expensive. Look for alternatives if needed. They should all be glowing too. I imagine it works well enough, u can hear static. If you really want performance u want to change out old ceramic caps, and some resistors that look like they could soak up moisture. If you want to tune it like an asshole like me, a vna is helpful. A cheap oscilloscope with signal gen is also good to have. And a spectrum analyzer. NanoVNA and nanoSA, mini scopes are everywhere, get one that goes to 100mhz at least. I use a miniDSO which i think is as low as 65. I paid 85 but that was years ago. U can do allot with a scope. If u have to get anything first, get a scope. Even a 20 dollar scope will get u through tuning, provided its not lost in the sauce from somone screwdrivering it. U can polish up that face too with toothpaste or scrub daddy then toothpaste but it’s gonna be like work. A buffing wheel and compound are better. If you need good info on radios mrcarlsonslab does allot of great work. Hes the high standard of electronics education. Im always happy to answer questions, just leave a random comment, ill get it. Ill likely post what to start with when u open a radio. I just realized i haven’t done that. The nanoSA also has a signal generator so u can test ur radio. It makes alignment easy because u just turn the screw to where its loudest. Ull want a plastic screwdriver too. Trim screwdriver? I just realized also, all this time Idk what that tool is called. I just get them with my scope probes lol.
Nevermind, don’t clean the dial face, just warm water. No abrasives. Its in as good condition as it could possibly be for its age. Im surprised that ended up at good will. The tubes alone are worth 150 bucks. The speakers another 40, the tuning condenser u could probably get 50, 80 because it might fit another zenith idk. But u can totally cut off the vaneer* where its broken in like a zig zag pattern to look cool, and put new where the old was making a really cool zig zag inlay. Or you could use a bold color epoxy fill. Or u could just fill it and paint the radio candy apple red, chrome trim, and new dial cover. U could honestly make that dial cover. U could probably use galinstan but mercury is cheaper. Wear respirator. Heat the mercury in a pan, then spin the pan. While spinning u add ur glass. The hard part will be cooling and cutting curved glass. U have to cool it slowly as it spins. The slower the better. Then u have to anneal it by heating it up in a kiln and cooling it again. If u dont do this it will probably break when u try cutting it. U can find more info online. If u ever start doing that, ull have urself one heck of a business selling custom curved glass. I can’t wait to get into glasswork. It would cost every bit of 200 dollars for a new dial window
It's not shortwave it's AM, and if that's the case you can repair it with rocks
It’s likely multiband am/shortwave. I didn’t even look tbh
It is a short wave radio, meaning you can hear stations from around the world as you can see different countries on the dial. I'll let you Google short wave for an explanation, no need repeating it here. Old radios are cool, some have the radio station call signs on the dial. I have an old one from the 1930's. Some of the radio stations on the dial are still operating.
Thanks for confirming it is shortwave, that’s what my friend said is that I could potentially pick up different signals from all over and he said it can be restored, just not sure where to start.
Don't turn it on. The dielectric in the capacitors are mostly dried up and may act like shorts. This can damage the vacuum tubes and transformer.
Vacuum tube! Thank you, I was thinking those. But I couldn't remember the name.
@@posey1982 Get a tech to rebuild it. After it's complete it will run like new. I've repaired many old tube radios. Some of them are from the 1920s and the work like the day they were made. If you're in the Toronto area I can repair for the cost of the parts only. You'll have to have someone repair the cabinet. The electronics is easy to fix.
Thank you for letting me know, I didn’t know that. So this is called a tube radio?
@@gulfcoastvintageandthriftYes, it is considered a Tube Radio.
My family fixed radios, TV's, radio stations, and tv stations. This radio is capable of tuning and listening to today's AM frequencies. The dial has markings that read "Meter", "KC", and "MC". The Meter is the wavelength in meters, KC stands for Kilo Cycles, and MC stands for Mega Cycles. Back then, they called cycles by its name but is now refered to as Hertz. So, the KC can be viewed today as KHz or AM band. Although, AM really means how the radio waves are made to transport the audio, "Amplitude Modulation", which is how all the frequecies are made that this radio is capable of picking up. All that being said, this radio was made in an era where most things were made to be fixed. This is no exception. It can be made to work and look good again. The question is though, what are you really wanting out of this? Is it to just function, look good, or both? My best guess is the cost could be as low as $100 to $2,000. If it's just a couple of internal parts that are needed, it's going to be on the low end. If you're going for a full restoration, it's on the higher end. You've got at least two disiplines here for a full restoration, an electronics expert and a carpenter. If it were me, I would get the electronics to a functional state, have the dials and face gently cleaned, and get the fabric replaced. If the wood and finish looks good, keep the petina look to it and put it on the mantle. All of that said, I would make a budget of $600 to ship it to an electronics expert to get the internals reconditioned and perhaps have a local upholster redo the fabric. Again, I dont know how bad the radio is, so this estimate can be more or less. Those are my thoughts. Thanks for posting this. This brought back some great memories for me!
Thank you so, so much for this detailed response of how it can be restored. I would like to do a full restoration to use it one day and keep for myself. I love the design and would just want to gently restore the outside to fix what is broken and keep the wood as is. Thanks for explaining how much I would need to save up for and where to start, by fixing the electronics first. The fact that it could actually one day be restored and pick up on AM would be amazing. I hope you have a great day, and thank you again. 🙏
Great video, God bless.
Thank you for the positive comment, and God bless to you as well! 🙏☺️
5 min in and elated to have a long video from you!!!!!!
Thank you so much, Meggie ☺️ Love you 🫶
Welcome back!! Love to see your adventures.
Thank youuu, Meggie 😘😘😘
Loving Hands is my favorite thrift store!!! ❤
I love shopping there! ☺️ And they are involved with some amazing causes
Those blue dishes aren’t depression glass. They were made in Mexico. They are called Forte Crisa .
Thank you for letting me know, I’ve never heard of Forte Crisa. Researching it now ☺️
OH MY GOLLY! Thank you so much for featuring the Loving Hands Thrift! We love the piece! Come see us again! @lovinghandsthriftstore
Oh my goodness, thank you for watching and leaving a comment! ☺️ I will definitely be back, Happy New Year! 🙏🌞
Hi!!! That’s my store! Segunda Vida! I was scrolling RUclips looking for thrift store videos in Bradenton and came across yours. Love it so much! I really like your format of the video too because you do nice walk-throughs and show a lot of items. Very relaxing and informative! And yes, we are all learning. Some of these comments are pretty rude. Your openness to learning is great! I’m in the same boat😅 It’s really funny because I definitely remember seeing you at Goodwill that day. I was telling my husband, that I’m pretty sure you were in our store, but I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t 100% sure. Between having a store and working in customer service before, I know so many faces in Bradenton, and I hate to mix up where I know them from. If you ever see me out in the wild again, please say hi! I love to connect with people. Thanks so much for shopping with us:) and thank you for the wonderful video! You are so kind 💚
Oh my goodness, I am so excited that you saw my video and left a comment. ☺️🫶 Made my day!!! Thank you for the encouragement. I’ve watched thrifting videos on RUclips for a long time before I tried to do my own and knew that people could get downright mean in the comments from watching other channels, but I didn’t want my fear to stop me from doing something I love. I am definitely learning as I go, Google Lens has helped me a lot in identifying what things are. At the end of the day, every comment boosts my engagement analytics, even the rude ones 😅 My mom and I LOVED shopping in your store and talking with you. Everything is perfectly curated and displayed. I am still thinking about that cactus lamp all these months later. I love what you did with that space and I will try to make a point to say hello next time if I run into you again. ☺️ happy new year
Beautiful finds! I love that cast-iron piece. Merry Christmas! 🎄🥳🎅
Thank you so much, it’s always so exciting finding things for your own collection. ☺️🙏❤️💚🎄 Merry Christmas to you as well!
All dresses are nice but first one gives Christmas the most❤
Thank you 🫶 that is definitely the one I am wearing for Christmas! ☺️ It’s actually a Hot Topic Beauty and the Beast dress 😂 but I like the gold sparkles. ✨
The first dress so cute on u but i like them all happy holidays❤😊😊😊
Thank you so much!! ☺️🫶🎄❤️💚 I am wearing the gold one for Christmas. Merry Christmas to you!
The first one gold color was so pretty on you 🦋Merry Christmas 🤶🎄☃️
Thank you so much!! 🫶❤️💚 That’s the one I’ll be wearing. Merry Christmas to you! 🎄☺️
Nickel is not electroplated over sterling. If you are talking about epns thats called nickel plated silver which is an alloy of nickel, zinc, and copper . It contains no silver what so ever and was developed in the 1800's to mimic sterling. Very common and of little value today.
Thank you for the information!
Love this song forever
Meeee toooo 😍😭 it’s one of my favs
That's chaz not homosassa
I like the voice overs much better than the song. 😊 thanks for the video! Have you gone to red, white, and blue on 41 in Bradenton yet?
I have never heard of Red White and Blue so I am excited to check it out! ☺️ thank you for the tip and the feedback 🙏. I will try to do the voice overs again. I am having copyright issues with the background music played in the stores which is why I have to either mute or edit the sound and I don’t know what the solution is yet. The free music I use in the video editing app isn’t the greatest, and I might need to look into some other options
@@gulfcoastvintageandthrift I’m sure it’s a challenge with the music. Just an FYI red, white and blue is cash only. Huge store! I only discovered it because of another RUclipsr doing a video there.
I'm 2 hours and 15 mins away. My next trip!! Would love to kayak.
That’s not too bad of a drive for a day trip or overnight trip! ☺️ I hope you check it out soon, it is a great place to kayak with a lot to see
We missed you! Would love to see you bring vintage lighting back to life😍😍😍😍
Thank you, Meggie 🫶🫶🫶🥹🥹🥹
That is adorable. I love Boho stuff. It looks really cute on you!
Thank you so much! Boho is my favorite too! ☺️
So glad you are back.
Thank you so much 🙏🫶☺️
I should try the "Bins" again because you never know what will be brought out. I just didn't like the whole process of standing near the new bins until they shout "GO". The people can get aggressive
I didn’t like that either, I am not a fan of crowds or being around a lot of people, so I avoided the new bins they were bringing out and waited until everyone else had looked and moved on, which is too bad since the point is to stand there and grab whatever new thing comes out before someone else does. I just get too overwhelmed by all of those people! 😂
You should buy a lot of that stuff and flip it
Hi Kathy, that is what I am trying to do. I want to start using FB marketplace to flip furniture. Maybe soon! 😊
Your electroplated dish is not over Sterling. That statement alone provides all we need to know about your expertise.
Yes, you are correct. I am new to this and learning as I go. I have only been reselling for a year, and most of my research is done in real time when I find things. My mom is much more knowledgeable and she is who I turn to when I can’t figure something out.
I went to visit my friend in Bradenton Florida and I think we went to every thrift shop in town
What were your favorites? I am trying to find some new places to go to! 😊
I like hearing your thoughts 👍and like to know what interests you!❤️
😊😊😊Thank you, I love exploring small towns and places that are off the beaten path! I hope to venture out and check out a new place soon.
Fun video with mum and gram! Thanks for sharing!❤️
Thank you for watching! 😊 I always have a blast with those two, they both have a great sense of humor and keep me on my toes!

The little Wade whimsies a lot of people collect those little tiny treasures just started watching you ty for the road trips 🦋
Thank you for watching! ☺️ hoping to post more day trips soon. I love the little Wade ceramics, they are so cute! Hope you have a great week
🎉yes
All Hula dancers are not created equal. The one you bought for $4.00 was a newer version. The one in the antique mall was an older vintage one, and looked more authentic and better made. Hence the cost difference. $20.00 was actually a good price for that.
Thanks for the comment, I definitely do not know ow much of anything about souvenirs from Hawaii, but they are a popular collector’s item. What I really need to do is get a book or a catalog and start looking this stuff up! ☺️
I'm sorry but I just can't watch goodwill, and most thrift store videos because I don't resale I only buy lol,I just can't find what I want at this point in my life at those places. But I will be at all your antique store videos and fun with mom😊
I understand and I’m so happy to hear you will watch and enjoy the antique mall videos. I will be uploading a lot more of those because I want to check out more in my area. ☺️
Its nice to see MT Dora from another perspective, I've only seen it on the My take on home and garden channel, that guy cracks me up check him out his wife works and he stays home and decorates, cooks, shops and is very proud of it all lol. you keep on collecting and shopping your little heart out and I'm coming along lol.
Thank you so much!! ☺️ I will have to check that show out, it sounds like fun. I hope you have an amazing week! ❤️
I love to sub to new peeps that are so courous, excited, vintage lovers, I love mcm so much because its so fun and colorful!your gonna have so much fun,I'm in Washington State way on the other side of the map lol.😊 I'll be back.
Thank you so much!! 😊 Washington is beautiful, I’ve been there a few times. You are lucky to live there. You have a lot of great antique malls and thrift stores in that state. Plus it’s beautiful to hike there!
She looks like that little woman in a Clint Eastwood movie 😃
Your gran
Yes she does! 😂 the only thing that is missing is a cigarette dangling from the corner of her mouth
Great video Lindsay!!! Great job filming!!! It is so hard to shop and film at the same time. Mt. Dora is a great small town. I will check out that Antique store the next time I’m in Florida. 😊
Thank you so much!! 😀🤗 Mt. Dora is incredible. You won’t be disappointed with the village antique mall
Great Find 🎉
Thank you!! 😊
Lol. I've dashed into gw at 20 minutes before closing and scored some goodies. We have to thrift when we can. I enjoy your positive attitude, good camera work and appreciation of nature. Thanks for sharing your Mother's Day surprise with your brother and Mom.
Thank you so much!! 😀 shooting videos on my iPhone is new so I am trying to capture good footage. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, sometimes dashing in for a quick 20 minute thrift stop unexpectedly gets you the BEST stuff! Have a great week. ❤️🙏
Wow, what an accomplishment! Brava!👏👏👏 congratulations, and I enjoyed your testimony at the end. My daughter is very brave like you. She ran the 10k over the skyway bridge this year and she runs daily as well. She will be 45 in July, but still seems like a 25-year-old. Usually she runs on the beach when she’s in Bradenton.
Thank you so much! Congratulations to her, that is a steep bridge and what an adventure to do that race! Running on the beach is very impressive as well. The sand can be hard to jog on. That’s awesome that she loves running, it’s such a good way to have fun and get exercise.
beach looks good
Hi Aunt Flor! It’s finally beach weather again. 🌊🏖️👙☀️
Blue coral that necklace was the natural color of the coral. That was a good buy.
It was really beautiful, and I have never seen a piece like that. I almost bought it. I wish I had!
Hi, it's fun to see someone else thrifting in my area. I'm a reseller too. Don Kiker shows his travels to the different thrift stores in Bradenton and Sarasota too.
Hello, fellow Floridian! ☺️ we have so many great places in this area. Is there a thrift shop you would recommend or that is your favorite near the Bradenton area?
@@gulfcoastvintageandthrift The Manatee Memorial Thrift Store is a good place to check out. The prices are pretty low too because of the enormous amounts of donations they receive.
Never been there or even heard about that one! Thank you, I will check that out ☺️🤗
Renningers worth going to only when the vendors from all over the country come and set up for a long weekend 3 times a year. You pay a nominal fee to get in and we have found some amazing things there.
100% agree, the first set time I went there must have been during one of their thrift/ antique fairs because there were tents and booths everywhere and it was like $5 to get into a certain section. The rest of the year is not worth it sadly
Those clear blue dishes are not depression era. I saw a name on the bottom but could read it. Gene Florence was a great collector and writer of books on different subjects. My mother had 1 of his depression glass books which she all but memorized. I still use it as a go too reference. Please find a copy and buy it. The depression actually lasted much longer than 1939, as my parents lived thru those years, and my grandparents. Oh yes, barware is very hot right now, and ice buckets have been on a upward swing in the selling markets. Geroge Breard is quite a hot brand bringing great money!!!!!
Thank you so much for the tip, I definitely need to learn more especially about glassware because glassware is one of my favorite things to collect and sell. I will look for the book and get a copy. I saw a gorgeous pink crystal ice bucket at an antique mall and almost bought it. First time seeing a clear glass ice bucket. ☺️
Congratulations 🎉
Thank you!! ☺️🤩
You popped up on my feed today so it’s the first time I’ve watched. Saw both part one and two. I really enjoyed seeing Mount Dora as I’ve never been there even though I’m a Florida native and live in your town. 😂
Thank you for watching and I’m glad you liked the video! Mt. Dora is so cute, you will have to take a day trip there! 😊I definitely recommend a Saturday though. On Sunday a lot of stuff was closed or shut down early for the day
