@@hi.story. Google it. That's how I KNOW it isn't the first. Just because "Americans" think it's the first doesn't mean it is. Don't just google "first national park" you need to look for "first national park in the world". Google and many other companies are American, so they are biased to American doctrine. American media dominates so most people, like you, have only heard the "truth" from the American perspective.

@@hi.story. You need to think about it logically. America is only around 250 years old. Many nations are FAR older than that. They ALL have parks, just didn't name them "national" parks. So Americans have a workaround, with one exception which IS the oldest national park on record.

@@hi.story. What you said made sense. Because at that time only Great Britain could be considered as a true "world power". But the 19th century was still riddled with major power wars. For example, France and Prussia (both major European powers) fought in 1870, and the U.S. and Spain (both major powers in the New World) fought in 1898. But indeed all of the British allies and colonies were at peace with each other. Still, to say that the 19th century is a "peace" is far-fetched.

This is a period in which, arguably, the US security umbrella and US-led international institutions have been able to prevent many major conflicts. The ratio between nation states and inter-state wars has also seen a steady decrease. That is truly an accomplishment worthy to be discussed.

@@hi.story.The Crimean war had the UK, France, Sardinia-Piedmont, and the Ottoman Empire against the Russian Empire. You can say that Sardinia-Piedmont and the Ottoman Empire were not major world powers, but Russia, France and the UK most definitely were.
