Timelapse 2km barren ground mountain portage
Here’s a Timelapse from our 1350 km Yamozha canoe expedition from Yellowknife to Kugluktuk, of our 2 km portage up and over high ground to get around a canyon on the Avaarvik River to Napaktulik Lake in Nunavut. @artsimondetti took the footage, trailing behind me and capturing it from end to end. There was no trail- just rough ground composed of rock, bog, heather and shrubbery (willows and birch). I used a combination of carrying and and dragging the canoe, depending on which was most efficient.

A Wolf rolls in my morning movement...
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.9 часов назад
As we were preparing to leave our campsite one morning on the Hood River during our recent 1350 km Yamozha canoe expedition, a wolf casually strolled into our camp and decided to hang out. After sniffing around our stuff for a bit, she made her way up to the small ridge behind us where she zeroed in on what had probably brought her to us in the first place: a large, fresh cow-patty I’d deposite...
Barren Ground Grizzly encounter
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.9 часов назад
We were all packed up to do another portage on our way to Starvation Lake when this barren ground grizzly rolled up to us. (Turn on the audio!) I pulled out my camera to film, hoping to capture some footage of these usually shy animals before it took off, but this one kept stalking in, salivating and flexing its jaws. Our gun was unloaded and packed away as I’d only intended to have it ready on...
Kangiqluk 2024- A Ski Tour in the Clyde River region of Baffin Island
Просмотров 965 месяцев назад
It got a little loose at times on our 325 km, 18 day ski tour through the fiords and mountains of the Clyde River region of Baffin Island. River crossings, open leads, punchy passes, wind storms, and glacial moraine were the price of admission for the reward of travelling through this stunning landscape.

Freediving with lion's mane jellyfish
Просмотров 12011 месяцев назад
I bumped into this lion’s mane jellyfish on a recent dive, as it drifted in the filtered light of a late November day. This species uses its stinging tentacles to capture, pull in and eat prey such as fish, zooplankton, and smaller jellyfish. Their stings can affect people, but my 7mm wetsuit provided plenty of protection during this intimate encounter 🪼 #jellyfish #freedive #westcoast
Swimming Polar Bear
Просмотров 622Год назад
During my recent 920 km kayak journey around the Labrador Peninsula, we surprised this bear as we came around a cliff corner. It wanted nothing to do with us and showed off its speed and prowess in the water as it swam powerfully over to an island and smoothly hauled itself out of the swell before disappearing to the other side. No wonder these beautiful creatures are classified as marine mamma...
Freediving the wreck of the Ready
Просмотров 261Год назад
Went for a freedive to check out the wreck of the Coast Guard cutter 'The Ready', which sank in Howe Sound in 2011 and is now an abundant reef full of life. Conditions were murky, which added a creepy vibe to our time down there as we hung with spider crabs, sea stars, giant white plumed anemone, shiner perch and rock cod, among others 🤿😃 #freedive #wreckdive #howesound #westcoast

Freediving with Seals
Просмотров 200Год назад
I kayaked up the local fjord earlier this week to free dive around some islands, hankering for an aquatic winter sojourn. A curious group of seals decided to hang out with me during my 1.5 hour immersion, providing great company and entertainment as we explored the abundant underwater playground. Fabulous clarity and conditions at this time of year 🤿 🙂 #freedive #seals #harbourseals #british co...
Tsichu River rapid

A taste of running the NWT's Tsichu River during our 1300 km Goba Expedition from the Yukon Border to Kugluktuk. This waterway ran from high in the Mackenzie Mountains, eventually flowing into the Keele River.
Upstream on the Great Bear River

Almost out of it on Day 6 of going upstream on the Great Bear River during our 1300 km Goba Expedition from the Yukon Border to Kugluktuk, pumping and grinding up the thin eddies against a relentless current. We inched along, but kept on moving and were out of it and onto Great Bear Lake within the hour :)

Flying over the Mackenzie Mountains to the Yukon border with Alex Kozma to begin our 1300 km canoe journey to Kugluktuk from a remote, unnamed lake our pilot Sauli had never landed on before. We then had to drag our canoe a kilometre down a shallow creek to access the Tsichu River- good times!

It is considered in keeping with Mother Nature's World to dig a hole to deposit one's POOP in and bury it. Only need a garden trowel.
