Unless you have a ridiculous amount of views, you cannot make a living on youtube. edit; by the way, I retired many years ago..so this is just a hobby. Your discussion of guitar position relative to the body made me smile as I remembered choosing a strap length for onstage duties. I remember dropping the guitar as low as I could get it and still play it the way I wanted to play it, which position placed the guitar right about at the crook of my hip, which felt comfortable for several reasons. Because this placement reminded me of handgun hip holsters (Think cowboys and six guns.😆), I called this look "gunslinger!" I don't think I was the only person to choose this length. Many years ago, I bought a guitar with a strap already attached from a pawn shop; the strap was EXACTLY where it needed to be for MY gunslinger position! Somebody liked it where I liked it. Maybe lots of people do. Great either way!😎

    Good morning, Mr. Allan! (A small reference to the original "Mission: IMPOSSIBLE!" TV show from the 60s ... I'm an old guy!😎 I wanted to chime in about Fender's intent in the 50s. You're entirely correct that Leo Fender adopted modular designs to lower the production time and cost for the Esquire, Broadcaster/Nocaster/Telecaster and for the 1954 Stratocaster. While still pricey for the time, I believe, the designs proved -- to be what they were and I need say no more. Naturally, Gibson had to compete, and each company did some interesting stuff to steal thunder and market share from the other over the decades. My opinion about SGs was pretty low when I was young, but at 66 I can truthfully say I'm not that kid anymore and the guy I am today might not cringe at the thought of owning a guitar like that -- even though the thought has yet to give me too much G.A.S.!😎

I also own three Harley Benton including the 25th anniversary ... the Jet costed me 149 euros, the Squire Anniversary costed me 298 euros, the Harley Benton 25th Anniversary costed me 258 euros ... had a promotion on the two G&Ls that are under 500 euros each and the most expensive is the Fender Lead that costed me around 550 euros ... I DON'T play anymore the 4k€ guitars I own because ... they are not as good as the ones I have just listed ... and I could have added the 100 euros Harley Bentons, the 298 euros Squire Jazzmaster anniversary and some D'Angelico I bought under 500 euros ... The Pacifica's body carve is sort of "squared off." It looks to me like the Squier body has had the corners planed down and it has been sanded more, giving it a more "rounded" "organic" look that I find quite appealing. 😊

    I understand what you were trying to do -- that is, to capture the "in-the-room" sound of the Spark Live. However, you can't really close mic a 2-way, FRFR style monitor/PA. The cabinet modeling that is occurring in the Spark Live's guitar amp modeling/processor is sending the audio to both the low/mid-range driver as well as the HF tweeter. This is true even with dry vocals, as the built-in crossover circuitry of the Spark Live monitor is splitting and sending the appropriate frequencies to the main woofer/driver and the HF tweeter. By close mic'ing the main woofer/driver, you are losing the sonic contribution of the tweeter, and losing all the high frequencies and "presence" of the modeled amp/cab system (or vocals). The resulting recorded audio, which became part of this RUclips video, is going to sound woofy and "boxy", versus what your ears were hearing in the room. I say all this, realizing that there does not exist an ideal solution, when trying to mic a 2-Way FRFR system -- except, perhaps, to capture and mix multiple room mics, instead of close mic'ing. Alternatively, it is always best to simply record direct to your DAW/audio interface (i.e., no physical mic'ing), for this type of system.

    • @JayceAllanGuitar
      @JayceAllanGuitar 3 дня назад

      I appreciate that. That could explain why I thought the guitar sounded muddy. The amp definitely didn't sound the same on the video as it does live. I guess my main reason for mic'ing it was to try to show how boxy the 6.5" speakers sound on vocals. Even live in my garage, a large open space, vocals on the Spark Live sound thin and boxy, almost like speaking into a tin can. It's not terrible, but definitely noticeable. I suppose messing with the EQ might help. I should probably do a deeper dive into the amp.

I've been looking for something that is reasonably priced for much the same problems I want to solve. So this was of particular interest to me! I think you hit the nail on the head here though, that it's pretty good, it's not perfect. Perfect is the enemy of good, and when you're trying to get so many sounds for such different purposes you'll never get perfect. Certainly not in such a small package. For perfect, you specialise. For good, this works. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to see what else you've got cooking.

    The Squier will for sure have a better resale value in the future and I’ve had good luck with them myself. I would absolutely never buy anything from Amazon.

      Not sure why. I buy music gear from Amazon all the time. I’ve gotten some great inexpensive guitars.

    I thought the vocals were fine. Doesn't seem to have the excess bass problem my 40 has.

    What would make a difference, is what the specs are on the guts. Ratio of the tuners, and for me the location of the jack, for using a cord. I like a 9.5 Ratio neck, with med jumbo or jumbo frets and the wood used that creates the tones of the guitar. These things are what you want to base your values on.

    I have been playing for 55 years. Guitars are like people ones you like I might not like. Also I like un-finished necks. I have owned ove 100 guitars in my life, Remember Les Paul started with a 4x4 and pickups

    Hi, did you notice that the short ground lead next to the disk drive is not connected. I've just bought a D20, in bits, and cannot find where it should go?

      @@8BitFixIt Funny that you mention that because I sold this and the new owner mentioned that the disk drive didn’t work! So I never noticed. Hope you get it figured out. I’m wondering if I had disconnected it taking the keyboard apart.

    Given that I started out on a used, no name 3/4 sized plywood plank with 2 single coils and (probably) tuners on a strip, I'd have been well pleased to get anything as good as either the Squier or the Yamaha. I've been playing for most of my life and haven't even tried a Yamaha guitar but I've owned a few Squiers and I've never had a problem with any of them. My Classic Vibe double bound Telecaster is more in favour than my '92 USA Standard Strat and has been ever since I bought it. I've been into customising guitars and I reckon that mid-price Squiers are up there with mid-price Epiphones as the perfect base, not sure about Yamaha guitars as I've never owned one. Experienced players need not turn their noses up at these guitars if they plan to leave them as standard, I just had to put a Bigsby, Towner Bar and P90s into my Sheraton. Poorly built guitars (aimed at cash starved players or beginners) are fewer in number than they used to be. I'm reminded of my youth with hollow bodied Les Paul copies and back breaking plywood Strat copies with tremolo screws working loose. Garish paint jobs often made a selling point, I remember the amazing Lady Penelope Fab One pink paint job on a Marlin Strat copy....I just HAD to have it! They used to reckon that only the brave would stand on stage with all the glitz of a Gretsch White Falcon, it had nothing on the laughter inducing pink Marlin.

    I have been playing guitar since 11 years of age. It was a Cheap "box" guitar that I started on. I still have the cheap Telestar Japanese made electric. It was difficult and at 14(when I received it) I had a hard time of it. Even though, it made a rocking sound I liked. I wish the Squire had been available back then in 1966!! Yes, I am nearly 72 now. Thanks for what you are doing. AND the the comments made by the detractor is hogwash brought on through pure ignorance. Carry on, my friend! Carry on!!

    Not everyone has a budget for a guitar over 500 dollars that has marginally better quality than a bottom budget guitar. Some people are just cheap and wouldn't spend 500 dollars let alone 200. Complains about cheap guitars pulls out Harbor Freight calipers.

      Not sure if this is directed at me. I certainly don’t complain about cheap guitars in this video or any of my videos. In fact I buy guitars mostly under $300. And those harbor freight calipers work just great.
