    How is the accuracy of that Right to Bear barrel?

    • @arrobb3893
      @arrobb3893 4 месяца назад

      Accuracy is good for a pencil profile barrel. It's the 4140 barrel but I saw they have one with 4150 steel that I plan on getting soon for another build. I normally shot at 100 yds and keep all on a 6" target with the red dot.

    Hi Robb, I am using the Catch22 V2 bolt catch, magwell shim, and the M&P15-22 magazine. I did dremel out the slot to make the follower travel higher, and managed to have last round bolt hold open like 70% of the time. My question is, as soon as I drop the mag the bolt closes immediately. Do you know how I could remedy this?

    During COVID I found that CMMG conversion kit w/3 mags on sale for about $180.00, and like you, found the accuracy in my 5.56 leaving a bit to be desired. I found that same pencil barrel at Right To Bear, along with the collar, and went down the same rabbit hole. I ended up finding Bore Buddy along the way and started with the "reliability kit", then the firing pin, extractor, the bolt bumper pad, the adjustable weight set and springs. I used an Aero lower, PSA upper, a PSA EPT 2 Stage trigger, RTB 0.625" Front sight base, Magpul MOE SL handguard and carbine stock. I am really pleased with how accurate that little pencil barrel is. I have not had any feeding issues at all, my CMMG magazines don't seem to wobble like you showed, and I have no trouble loading them to capacity. Now that I am retired , I find it nice the shoot at $0.08-9 per round, as opposed to $.80 per round. Thanks for the well presented video. Subscribed

    Wow. I started the same way, got the CMMG conversion kit, and had the same outcome. Everything stated here is 100% accurate. The CMMG kit is good for what it is. As a trainer to use your existing AR. For that one purpose, it’s great But accuracy is crap, and it dirties the expensive AR a lot, so I’m now rethinking it. Now I want a dedicated 22 lr upper, but as close as possible to a real AR, but I also want accuracy. CMMG and Tippman birth come up, but they have their own drawbacks. I just want a complete upper to fit my existing lowers, and be accurate.

    For anyone interested, check out Redi-Mag (Boonie Packer Better-Mag), I don't have any experience using it, but it is on the list of upgrades for my dedicated AR 22LR. I too went the CMMG Bravo conversion, I liked how easy it was, and how reliable it was, but I didn't like how "accurate" it was. So I too chose to build a dedicated 22lr. I've probably researched ALL of the 22lr upgrades. I have scoured the internet for many many hours looking at the possible upgrades for the 22lr. The Redi-Mag and M&P 15-22 mags work VERY well with the Redi-Mag. They also said the Blackdog mags work very well with them too. The one nice thing about the M&P15-22 mags is the round/magazine follower allows you to effortlessly load a full mag every time, and without your fingers getting tired, by being able to pull the follower down with your fingers away from the feed lips. You don't need the CMMG 22lr bolt catch, or Catch22 bolt catch, when using the Redi-Mag, the factory bolt catch. From what I've learned the Redi-Mag is also more reliable than the CMMG or Catch22 bolt catch. I must also warn, you cannot use the CMMG Mags with the Redi-Mag. You have to use M&P15-22 or the Blackdog mags.

    Great Videos. I just purchased a BearCreek 22LR upper to pair with a Palmetto State Lower. Seems to function fine although I didn't know enough to expect the bolt hold open issue. Seems like relying on the round follower to hold the bolt open is sooner or later going to be a fail point. I'm curious as to whether or not you have used or considered the Boonie Packer setup? Thanks again for these videos

    Since the CMMG mags have that extra play, a lot like the M&P15-22 mags, thats got me wondering if the adhesive shims from Catch22 would help alleviate that issue for the CMMG mags as well.

    • @arrobb3893
      @arrobb3893 Год назад

      The 15-22 mags have a lot more play than the CMMG mags do so need a thicker shim.

    Excellent video. I just purchased the catch 22 gen2 and the mag well shim and two 15-22 mags. I did not realize you had to modify the mags to work, so your description will be very helpful. I am going to try to mod the catch 22 first as opposed to modding the mag itself. Plan B is to mod the mag though if needed.

    Seems like the Vizm would work best while installing a barrel because it doesn't rely on the lugs like the Bev Block does.

    • @arrobb3893
      @arrobb3893 Год назад

      I still prefer the BEV for 5.56 because it secures the receiver as well as the lugs. The Vizm works well for the 22lr barrels because they don't have lugs. I probably could have pointed that out a bit clearer in the video!

    • @BassManStrikes
      @BassManStrikes Год назад

      @@arrobb3893 would be great for AR9 barrel install also :-)

    • @Dusdaddy
      @Dusdaddy Год назад

      The lugs are a suitable place to hold the barrel while installing. That's the reason the reaction rods are so popular, no torque or stress is applied to the receiver body when torquing the barrel nut. This VISM would work sufficiently for barrel installation if done correctly but may be weak if you are removing a factory installed barrel that was over-torqued. Something like a BEV block or an MWI reaction rod would be better.

    Ive built 2 of these and about to do a 3rd this evening. A tip for anyone wanting to build this and also have accurate back up iron sights or use a DABL or MAWL. Get an inch pound torque wrench and blue loctite. Torque the rail screws to 25lb/in in a criss cross pattern like lug nuts. Put the loctite on before you do. Torqued to 25lb/in a cross pattern evenly seats the rail and perfectly centers it around the barrel. My irons only required 4 clicks from dead center to zero at 100yds doing this.

    Great video. You can find reviews and comparisons everywhere, everyone does them. What you dont see is just a guy who shows you some different builds hes done, telling you what he likes and has changed. This ol boy isnt selling a thing. Simply sharing his opinion from his experience which to me is extremely helpful and much appreciated. I wish there were more like this, much deserving of more than 16000 views. And since this is his opinion, no claims this is better than... lets respect that and keep the "I'll never blah blah...this is better" personal opinion (twice the money for maybe minimal improvement) comments to yourself please. Respect your elders! Thanks for the video.

      Not sure the product number. It's 2" wide and I cut strips 1/2" wide, Stay on the flat part of mag and off the rounded corners. I originally bought the tape to fix a tear in a above ground vinyl pool, will stick on the inside under water!
