    I found out that lightfastness is less of a concern for designers so you have to watch your colors with w&n “designers” gouache. Some are lightfast enough for artists, but not all. I was thinking the word designers wasn’t enough of a indicator to non-designers that artists were not being completely considered in that line of gouache. :)

    I love this video thank you so much for presenting the colors. The way you did. I love quash I love Holbein artists gouache especially. Price point per each the set has changed quite a bit where you said they were like $50-$60 said about $86 a set so watching you do each one of the seasons makes it a lot easier for me to figure out which ones I wanna do on that painting above, which is, sublime beautiful by the way, did you sketch first or did you just go for it? Freehand with the paintbrush just absolutely beautiful😊❤❤❤❤❤❤

    You should replace bengal rose by quinacridone magenta because of lightfastness problem. Beautifull work (then if you think your two reds are too close, you can replace winsor red by a red-oranger version). I oftenly avoid pure red because i m thinking the color have no soul

    Hello, I came across your channel while looking for swatches of the turner design gouache. (immediately subscribed btw) For traditional gouache would you prefer Holbeins over them? Or even poster colors? Do you have any standalone colors you like from either brand?

    • @briannacasiniart
      @briannacasiniart 10 месяцев назад

      Hi I'm so sorry for the late reply but thank you so much for checking out my channel! I really enjoy working with both Turner acryl gouache and Holbein artist gouache. I think I prefer the turner gouache more just because I have more tubes of colors and I'm trying to make a dent in my stock since the paints tend to harden in their tubes. The Holbein I don't have to worry too much about. I think it's also based on what type of painting I want to do that day, when I want to do something a bit quicker it's easier to use my acryl gouache. If I want something more detailed, then I'll pivot to Holbein artist gouache. I definitely need to try out poster colors a bit more, but from the brands I've used (Sakura, Holbein, and Nicker) they work very similarly to my Holbein artist gouache. I feel a bit more free to play around with them since they're a lot cheaper too so it doesn't feel like a waste. I guess I just end up using my Holbein artist gouache for special occasions 😅 I'm not a big fan of the turner designer gouache since it can come out chalky and can be pretty expensive. It works decently well as a dry palette though! Ohhh my favorite colors would be the following! Turner Acryl Gouache: Coral Red, Opera Red, Lilac, Jaune Brillant, Yellow Ochre, Beryl Green, Night Blue, and Blue Compose Holbein Artist Gouache: Everything from the Irodori Spring Set! I haven't used many other colors unfortunately.

    I absolutely love your art! Your style is beautiful and the colors you use are vibrant and happy ❤❤ I'm obsessed with gouache. Just got a new set, the Brustro gouache 12 tube set. Have you tried Brustro yet? I highly recommend it! My fav is acryla gouache by Holbein but Brustro traditional gouache is a very close second. I like Himi but not love. Turner is ok. Liquitex is awful in my opinion. Sui is gorgeous, especially the pastel set!!! I do like poster paints but they're more tempera vs gouache. Thanks so much for sharing your sketchbook with us all! I really enjoyed seeing everything in it. Hope you're having an amazing weekend ❤❤❤❤

      I'm glad it's not just me!! I'm completely in love with their acryla gouache but when I got the designer gouache it was such a letdown. Like it's wayyy more expensive for an inferior product. I'm trying to use mine up but it's just not worth the price 🙄 It's better to spend your money on some better artist gouache, the holbein ones are exactly what I wanted and the tubes last for a long time!

    Very nice video! I also liked the music that you chose. I have the same set and I think it works well in combination with the brighter colors in the spring set. The winter set has a lot of more transparent colors, so I wasn't surprised that you struggled with the opacity a bit. But I never noticed that it is missing a yellow until you mentioned it! Great painting and don't feel bad about liking to paint trains! I'm subjecting my viewers to lots of Star Wars paintings... :D We simply like what we like, and I think we should also paint what we enjoy painting. Btw, which paper did you use? The texture is super interesting.

    • @briannacasiniart
      @briannacasiniart Год назад

      Aww thank you so much! I'm glad this older video is getting a bit of love 😁 Aaahh I have my swatches out and I see what you mean! I need to try mixing these two sets together because I can see really beautiful color palettes in there! I didn't even realize they were transparent until you mentioned it. It's so weird because the spring set feels more opaque to me even though it's mostly pastels. I can't believe there's no yellow! The closest is that russet green lol Aww thanks! I think not being able to go to Japan for a couple years made me really hungry for some cute train paintings. Star Wars paintings sound so cool though! Are you painting scenes or some of the characters?? 😄 It's my favorite paper! I used the Strathmore 400 Series 6x12in 300gsm Cold Press Watercolor Paper. I can't tell if it was a manufacturing error or what but this cold press paper has barely any texture that it feels almost like hot press to me! I love how it feels to paint on so I stocked up on as many sizes as I could. Unfortunately anything bigger than 11x15in had the normal cold press texture you'd expect, so just try to get something in that size or smaller! Hopefully it wasn't an error and they just print their smaller sizes in this texture!

    • @WingedJedi
      @WingedJedi Год назад

      @@briannacasiniart I like that you stuck with the limited palette of the winter set and I think you made the best out of the lack of yellow. When I tried out the spring set for a painting, I realized that it doesn't really have a shadow or dark color. There were some smaller sketches that looked fine with just the limited palette of the spring set, but I ended up using some of the browns from the winter set in order to complete the landscape painting. Think I used both sets in this painting if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/lQRGhXdZfwI/видео.html I mostly paint the characters. I've started to swatch new paper by painting BB8 with certain watercolor techniques that I use the most and it's super helpful to put all of them side by side and see which papers allow more lifting, etc. So my latest video had 2 BB8 illustrations in it. xD Thanks for going into so much detail about the paper! It's a bit tricky to get Strathmore here in Germany, but I will keep my eyes peeled. :)

    Hi - I'm beginning to explore gouache and found your channel. I was a bit surprised you didn't mention the W&N gouache either way. Now that you've had it for a while do you still use it? I got the white and the binder separation was so bad I finally had to throw it out and have been reluctant to buy more. I use the Boku undu paints along with the kuretake art nouveau set and some others to balance the lighter colors, but also to create some moody landscape and loose floral scenes, but watercolor and ink are my thing. Love your trains, by the way!

    • @briannacasiniart
      @briannacasiniart Год назад

      Hey! I'm glad you're testing out gouache to see if you like it! I really liked my W&N gouache when I first used it but I just haven't reached for it since! I think it's a mixture of not having a wider range of colors currently in my set (my go-to now is juane brillant/yellow ochre and coral/opera red) and just not having a lot of time to paint in the past few months. Now that you mention it, I'm definitely going to try using it again to see how I like it, and I'll supplement the colors I need with my holbeins 😁 I know gouache can be a bit tricky since you can't tell if it's gone bad until you open it, sorry you had a bad experience with the white 🙁 Ohhh yes the Boku Undos and the art nouveau sets must be amazing together!! That makes me so happy to hear that these paints pair well with other gansai tambi paints! Thank you so much!! They're my favorite thing to paint recently 😅

    Does the refined linseed oil contain some solvent in it? Helpful video 👍 i was considering Acryla guess I'll just stay with turner.

    • @briannacasiniart
      @briannacasiniart Год назад

      It doesn't seem to contain solvent straight out of the bottle but I've noticed mine emits a strong crayon-like odor when it dries on the canvas. I use small bottles with eye droppers when I'm painting and the caps have started to disintegrate, so it may be that the linseed oil in them has gone bad. Also in college I was taught to mix a bit of gamsol with it my linseed oil, so the sensitivity and smell may be coming from that too 😥I'll need to try out some new mixtures to make my studio safer! The Holbein Acryla Gouache is fine if you're able to get it cheap, but I've just had better results with Turner 😅
