Stuart charges and Jackson holds his ground.
I had this quad way back in the day, it disappeared during one of my many moves[along with a lot of other stuff!]. Korsun and Operation Star were the ones that got played the most.
we have the other one, tank on tank on eastern front, love the game, like the chits and even Ashley likes it . nice to see you play it McMurray
Thanks McMurray. Good to see this one again.
How big are the hexes? 1"¿??
Great format. No endless die rolling. You get to the point. Explain the outcome. Done! :)
The old stuff still looks great. Thanks for bringing this one out Hexy.
Watched the rest of this that I missed last night. Looking forward to the rest of your plays.
Hi Hex2hex, I'm not sure it's mandatory to use Bragg corps AM only, it seems you can use his 2 divisions AM don't you think? Can't you choose one or the other? It's much easier to use one division AM after the other and certainly very cumbersome to use both of the those in the same activation. (BTW I try to download Vassal but my PC refuses it. Too bad).
It has been a while since I played this, and I cannot remember if the rules specifically said to use the Corps AM or not. I know a few people that could not get Vassal to function on their computers.
Did you clip the counters while in basic training Hexy? That map is not bad at all for its age. I like how the forests are depicted.
I wonder if that was even a thing back then?
@@Hex2Hex I honestly would not know that answer. I don't think I was alive when you were at basic and I only came to the hobby about four years ago.
I remember buying ASL modules at the Camp Lejeune MCX. The good ol’ days. 🥹
Ah yes, miss them good ole' days sometimes.
Have not played since last century. I think need to get it and it's Brothers to the table.
Chuck I have Napoleon Invades Spain on the table. I played La Coruna and now I have Veimero set up.
It's nice to break out something light every now and then.
Korsun is a decent game, probably the second best game behind Operation Star in the AGS quad. However, when I play, I cannot get the Soviets to obtain a breakthrough and subsequent victory. I think the key is in the German intial set-up. I know the guidelines hamper where the German units are placed, but a careful deployment can severly stymie the Soviets. Also, careful exploitation of the bends in the rivers during the game allow the Germans to establish nearly unassailable positions. But, the game is still interesting and fun.
I also found that I only activated certain Russian HQs for the most of the game and never really got a lot of the "other" Russian units into combat.
Seems very similar to the World at War 85 system. Lock N Load Tactical is great though, but a different beast entitely in terms of rules
No doubt Solo.
I never quite liked the green russian counters.
Almost would accept the PINK better.
Excellent a fairly simple but accurate simulation from SPI basic rules little chrome equals fun in wargaming thanx
Easy to get playing for sure Rollo.
Ah SPI, great games horrible colour palette 😊
Love a lot of the old SPI Classics.
Nice
ty
Nothing so warming on a cold winter’s day as an SPI Quad game!😊
For sure, easy play and fun, whilst a little unbalanced.
This needs a reprint and some different shades of color so not all the Russians are the same green and the German is the same color so you can or letter in a corner for the four games for easy separation in case accidentally getting mixed
Fortunately these counters do have a letter for what scenario they belong too, but I agree on a better color mix.
I have a solo copy of Korsun I got last century. I played it once and Russians won. I have since got the quad but the counters were mostly unpunched and I just haven't gotten around to playing the games yet. Maybe this year
Unpunched, ooooo lucky you.
I likenhow younger the points ,but not from objective. Interesting
👍
Haven't seen this game in quite a while! Great to see these older games being played. Great AAR
Thanks Matt - this box is an early gaming memory for me. Played at the end of Basic Training in Ft. Knox.
Very odd counter color choice for the Russians. For an older game this does not look bad at all. Are you having fun with this one Hexy? I am in the process of punching and clipping my first OCS game Hungarian Rhapsody.
The dark green color for the Russians appeared as early as Kharkov, the second game in the PGG pantheon. I've seen it many times since. I, myself, prefer "Communist red" for Stalin's hordes, though.
Red for the Guard Units?
@@Hex2Hex Red for the Guard units and perhaps a darker red for regular troops?
Good Friday afternoon sir. Looks good. How available is it?
I have no LNL. yet.
I think it still is Chuck, but they are going to be changing the system here soon.
Nice play Hexy. I remember this was a good quick play, few warts like AT morters but I believe that was worked out.
I am finding that all the LnL Systems seem to follow a similar path of play.
I am so ashamed. I forgot to ring the bell. :(
Oh no you didn't????? ;)
Wow, te żetony i mapa wyglądają tak pięknie
For sure VX - LnL does amazing work on all components.
Been awhile since I’ve played NaW.
Light and easy.
That is one fine lookin' map!
Kinda wish they had actually made jungle looking maps for these scenarios.
Ithulu!
Makes me wanna put on a grass skirt.
👍👍
👍
What a wonderful intro! Thanks Hexy!
Yes sir.
McMurray!!!
Hi Hex2hex, you are right, any wargamer player makes mistakes with the rules. At the moment I'm doing the same scenario of Into the woods as you, first day of Pittsburgh landing, same 9 AM, and I realized that during a few activations I completely forget to give a -1 DRM for all green units firing... Oups and oups! In fact, this is not harming the system at all. Just play it and learn in playing, nobody would jdge you if you make mistakes. And have fun.
Yeah, and if you sit there constantly digging in the rule book it can take your motivation and fun factor away, sometimes.
this is great - looking forward to continued playthrough
Thanks John. I am finishing up the next one as we speak. This one wont post until mid-February though. Ooooo, now you can scenario dig to see which scenario I am playing.
Japanese tanks suck but man do they have some awesome camouflage patterns. This is probably the one ASLSK I would want to get but I can't see myself getting fully into ASL to be honest.
Agreed on the camo.
Good late Friday morning.
I promising myself no ASL ... Well maybe if I try some of the old SL stuff I might want to upgrade.... Good Lord help me
Lol Chuck. I have to admit I do enjoy it, but we are talking Starter Kit.
6:08 a tank setting fire to the grass nearby is a possibility in full asl.
Gotcha.
2:59 the scenarios are designed with the SK limitations in mind.
Roger.
I do like that map
Just wish they made Jungly Versions.
Great Video. Intense repetitiveness is how most ASLers recall the overwhelming myriad of rules. Remember, Combined Arms rue's the day. 🙂
Thanks Joey. Hey, I am learning how NOT to use Armor, which is funny considering I was a Scout in an Armored Battalion in Germany in the 80s.
ASL is a great system I wish I still had all my ASL . I’m looking at old school tactical I know the Stalingrad KS starts this month
Everybody keeps telling me to try that, but I do not own any.
@ I hear the author is Canadian and the rules are very popular
Hauptmann Wollschläger was in command in January 43. Good stuff Hexy. Still haven't taken the plunge into ASLSK.
Thanks Nord, love the historical input.
@@Hex2Hex Its what I do Hexy.
Thanks for this one Hexy. Bounding Fire from tanks is the reason I go with Panzer when I want a good tank game, but like the infantry squad action with ASL/SL. Good that it is going well for you.
It's getting its Paws into me but can never overtake my love for GBACW.
@@Hex2Hex I would agree ACW is my favorite and GBACW is a go to game for it.
Looks like fun. I still need to organize n clean up my SL counters. Loose n mixed in baggies😢
I just found a game in my inventory tonight that everything was in one baggie, so I started in on the sorting.
Great video. I've considered dabbling in ASL. Recently set up a Squad Leader scenario and had some fun. I own ASLSK 1 & 2 but have yet to break the shrink.
Thanks Tim. It is quite fun, and SK makes progression learning easy.
Just to clarify why Band of Brothers doesn't include vehicle wrecks: each hex represents 40 yards across, and a smashed, wrecked vehicle adds nothing much but counter clutter on the mapboard, and little in the way of real cover. Some tactical WWII games include wrecks and they often give more cover than they really should, and can be used in gamey ways (like moving a truck into a field of fire just to have it shot up to create a vehicle wreck). Keep in mind that and a wrecked, burning vehicle was often a hazard to infantry as it may contain exploding ammunition, so they tended to stay clear of them. Hence, the designer, Jim Krohn, opted to leave vehicle wrecks out of the BoB system.
Great points, Thanks Brendan. I really just want to see something burning in the field!!!! 😁
nice!
Thanks!
Oh, here we go.
Armored Combat extraordinaire.
Great video Hexy. Now you go me inspired, thinking of this old scenario played in a different game that is focused on tanks. And now you are inspiring me.
Do you have this in Panzer?
