Tahini Molasses Pekmez with Lena Tashjian
‘This is what I like to call the Armenian version of peanut butter and jam.’ Lena Tashjian tells our producer as she sets up to show us her recipe for Tahini Molasses. This incredibly simple dish, which Lena used to have as a weekend treat with bread, has just two ingredients.
Lena’s version uses pomegranate molasses rather than the traditional grape molasses version. She showed us her recipe, more a work of art than a dip.

I've learned to cook the manti first in the oven and then add it to the chicken broth mixed with yogurt in order to have it as a soup. Some people just toast it and add a bit of broth topped with yogurt garlic sauce . It depends how you like it . You don't need to stay out of the kitchen - it's a matter of preference !

    • @WillGallagher1

I prefer boiled too but oven is easier and you don’t have to worry about them breaking like in the boiling pot of water. (Not that it is a huge problem, but transferring the delicate uncooked manti to the pot is sometimes momentarily stressful)

Yes you can make it like a soup, prepare the same mante exactly like Mihran did , then boil 4 to 6 cups (or more) water or chicken stock, add tomato paste, lemon juice and dry mint, and drop the mante in it, while eating in your plate add yogurt with squeezed garlic(very little), very tasty soup

Your manti is not really what I have had at its countries of origin. They are steamed or boiled. Not baked to crispness. Also, no soupy tomato sauce.. It is served with thick curds and sprinkled over with thick red pepper /tomatosauce , made with pul bieber, and sumac. Yours is a bastardised version, catered to western palates...
