FINAL BODY TOUCH-UPS & MASKING THE 1970 DATSUN 510
I used Excel in automotive wiring systems (once upon a time). I'd still rather wire a vehicle then build an engine or transmission. Early hearing your electrical plight on the 52, I kept thinking "grounds." Grounds are the most neglected portion of any one wiring a system. Always think grounds. Thats my plug nickle advice. However, you're making lots of progress, I'm just a peon watching SIr.
Absolutely...I have ground wires everywhere on this thing!
You could have tested the column without tearing it apart. I suspect a cheap wiring harness without any documentation. One flasher? That was definitely the wrong harness for what you are trying to do.
It's fixed now, so it doesn't matter.I only took the wheel and adapter off to see if it was a stock Chevy switch. The knob for the 4-way was sticking in the on position and a crappy connector was the issue, thanks for watching!
I'd been thinking ground before you tore into the column, Dan! Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks. Turned out to be a sticky 4-way knob and a crappy connector...I'm just glad it was that easy to fix!
Ray and Dae here it’s looking very nice you must be excited to see the end of this project. We are looking forward to the 56 Chevy whenever you decide to start it and that will be a very lengthy project. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks...yep. it's so close now, I can taste it!
I hate anything electrical. Ground on electrical always pisses me off. Especially running lights on a semi trailer when it comes in contact with moisture and salt.
Just gotta have a little patience!
Patience nope I'm not a doctor lol
Grounds can be strange I had a chevy truck distributor lose a ground once to this day I have no idea how that could happen
Great video, as always. Steering column is from China. I am sure you said in an earlier video, but I am just curious as to what brand of wiring harness you installed? Is that import as well?
Yep...had to deal with a couple mis-labelled wires and add a 2nd flasher...other than that it wasn't that bad! Thanks!
Dad taught me, 50 yrs. ago GROUND every componet. battery to cab, to frame to motor to bed steering collum window cranks,,cup holder, get my drift!!
LOL...yep, gotta ground everything...should be done with wiring tomorrow...it's just tail lights left. Thanks for watching!
The brake light switch or bulb
I'll be on that tomorrow. now the the front is all done...thanks!
Hey Dan Just a thought . Is it possible the plug on the column is pinned wrong ? Maybe the switch is good ? Ya Maybe . Cheers
no...everything is hanging there because we tested everything for continuity
I cant tell you to not buy Chinese as i buy Chinese tires for my semi. And i get 80,000 miles where bf goodrich i get 140,000 miles.
Ask the Russians how well the Chinese tires are in Ukraine...disaster for them...garbage!
Thanks!
Thank you very much! I truly appreciate the support! Helps keep the lights on and the camera rolling.
got faith in you brother.
Thanks...just another hurdle to hop over...it shouldn't be that way though!
With quality parts nowadays. There is a lot of that going on. Feel sorry for the shops that have to do this daily 😕.
No doubt...easy enough to fix, but shoudn't have to! Thanks!
Hey Dan have a good video it sucks when you have to do everything twice to three times the way they make stock nowadays will you have a good night my friend stay warm say hello to the family
That's hot rodding ....ya gotta sort through the crap to get to the desired result! Thanks and have a good night!
Screwed by a screw! A Steering column from China also screws!! Be careful of an older turn signal switch because of plastic degradation. Re-doing work is what I'm accustomed too. Keep the faith Sir!
Thanks! It looks to be in really good shape, I think I'm gonna be ok!
I hate having to fix others mistakes. Especially when I’m paying for it. There is no excuse for poor quality of work. As much junk as china builds, I have no idea how they have planes that can fly. 😂. Keep up the good work Dan…
Yeah, I think I'm done with buying anything from there, even if it costs more...in the end, your not saving anything! Thanks!
Stupid question, trying to watch entire series of the 51 chevy videos but there not playing in order. any idea of what I'm doin wrong? Thank you, I apreciate you, John
Are you pulling them from the playlist? I think you can go from oldest to latest that way...do what I do, get a kid to set it up, lol...thanks for watching!
Looking good. Keep it up.
Thank you very much...again!
most of those cars (not all) are full of bog and not worth the money
I've heard stories, but I'd still like to check it out once, just to see it for myself. I've heard there's many a deal made in the parking lot for vehicles not even in the auction.
I stopped watching the live classic car/truck auctions because I believe these live auctions drove the prices way too high. Nice cars and trucks to look at, but that's it. They're priced out of my league. Square bodies are cool trucks, I have one but needs paint. A nice box of gifts you got there Sir!
For me, it's like driving by a bad accident...you shouldn't look, but you do anyway
“Politically Correct ?” Sign in your shop is classic! That, plus a box opening reveal with more controversial hose clamps…
LOL...thanks..that sign was made for my dad years ago!
50 yrs. in the old car buis. Processed hundreds, have 30 left.
yep...reminds me of my dad...those days are fading away, especially for the little guy...the founders of hot rodding...a damn shame!
Well if we are lucky canada will be taken over by Trump and 10 provinces will give the states 60 states. Then quicker from western canada to southern ontario by 12 hours. Im getting alot of requests for 60s , 70s, 80s trucks. 40s and 50s one in ten. Anything older that 1955 not popula 5:05 r at all. Model a and model t vehicles are dead. I like 1947 Fords, but no requests for those any more. It seems. Your 38 was the oldest in some time. Then I was offered four 1938 trucks. So I'm putting them out there. One is going to you for parts. The others ?????
Looking forward to seeing the finished truck
Me too!
it's crazy, being in Georgia prices are crazier than other states and lower than some, with prices the way they are there's no way I could build a project, I'd save buying something complete, it's sad. The trucks getting close. I'm going to miss that project.
Yep...I saw many of these cars go over the block getting a 1/4 or 1/3 of what they cost to build...doesn't make sense!
Good job hanging and lining the door, the trucks looking great, I as many as others and you are looking forward to the finished product!
Yes sir! Thanks
I sent you our great weather your welcome. Minus 67 tonight
Everybody needs a piece of railroad track ,

Improvise, adapt and overcome! Bravo! -40?? The coldest I've ever experienced here in Albuquerque was -12, mayde just a tad colder, and it doesn't get nowhere near as cold as what you have to deal with!
It's just a few days, then back up to normal temps. That's winter in Northern Ontario! Thanks!
Are you going to put armrest on there too
No, there is gonna be a combo arm rest, console, cup holder painted to match that sits on the middle of the seat.
Hey Dan have a good video I can't believe it's that damn cold up there parts of Florida is snowing right now are you have a good day my friend trucks looking good can you say hello to the family room light
Did you use original hinges or aftermarket ones
original
Hey, Dan! Which manufacturer did you buy the tailgate from, how does its construction compare to original, and what were your overall impressions with the quality and fit?
It appears to be an exact copy of the original with spot welds ect. in the proper location. Quality seems good and it has some weight to it...I'm happy with it. Not sure the manufacturer, but I bought it from Bills truck shop.
Good idea enjoyed the video
Thanks!
Here is my comment to help the channel Dan. Looking great. The truck that is.😅 I am doing a project my self and your channel with some of your tips has encouraged me to moving along. keep up the great work. Stay warm and have a great day from Wisconsin USA.
Thanks! Good luck with your project...been in Wisconsin a few times, it's very much similar to Northern Ontario, where I'm from...nice state!
Hi Dan Im doing the exact same rebuild as you in BC Inner and outter cowls and floor pans I also purchased from Classic industries Same thing .. I had to modify the inner cowls Not a good reproduction Thanks for sharing my friend !

The face is what makes these vehicles special in my opinion...thanks!
Excelent!!!!!
Thank you!
Well now saskatchewan afternoon and its minus 54.
Well, you can keep that over there...-30 is cold enough!
It's looking good. Advanced design are my favorite of all trucks probably because I can remember driving one when I was about five years old. I wish I could find one that had your craftsmanship built in.
Thank you for the kind words!
@@dirtydansrodncycle Will it be for sale when done?

Looks great with its lights.
Amazing what little things like that do to add to the look...thanks.
More damn packaging than there is product. Useless.
Minus 43 here in saskatchewan this morning

I think the stainless bumper bolts look great. Amazing how long the little things take to finish. It’s looking great. Hopefully the temperature cooperates with your plans.
Thanks...well, I'll just have to work around the weather...can't control it!
Great look on front bumper with bolts . You going to paint letters on tailgate white ? Stay warm !
Naw...there's no white anywhere on the rest of the truck...all blue gate.
