Good man

Fenders, we don’t need no stinking fenders!
I admit from the start I did not even finish the video. I have been sailing for more than 25 years in the Med and I have chartered many times. I have my own boat for 10 years now in the Med and have sailed it to Spain, France, Italy, Malta and we are presently in Greece. I once took a three week charter in Croatia and my wife and I have vowed never to visit Croatia again. Fundamently, because of the people where everything is about the money. The people are not naturally welcoming or friendly...it is always about the money. Never again in Croatia!!
this is very true. I have been sailing in Croatia for 12 years, but last few years the prices have been going totally out of control in Croatia. only money, money, money. but they are loosing many customers already+have few friends who have taken their sailing boats from Croatia to Italy or Greece.
Good, I enjoyed it will watch more
And the man just stands there ..?
me first time in my life was skippy, first week in September and it was mega giga gaga cool, first day dolphins, first 4 days sun smooth wind, 4 x anchored 2 x docked, less people, less boats always a place, 1 day full action infront storm 5bft and 7,5kts sailspeed, no crash and only needed 23 litres for 1 week^^. Luck was on my(our) side^^
btw i drove away in vienna with 800 eu in cash and came back with 500. was very cheap boat for 2000,- 4 cabines/ 6 people
Hello Boštjan, I just subscribed. I already watched a couple of your videos but when I told my wife about them, I subscribed. She is also Slovenian and I’m also RYA certified. We live in Belgium but sail often on the North Sea and the Adriatic whenever we can.
Thank you for your support 🙏🙏🙏
Someday I'll try the North Sea. It's on my bucket list :)
Nicely and fairly balanced comparison. I sailing both Croatia and Greece on my own boat and enjoy them both for different reasons.
Thank you for your comment 🙏🙏
What you are talking? You are talking about 30m of the chain on catamaran?Bullshit…always is around 50-60m,I never was on the boat with the chain 30m(I working 7 years in Adriatic sea),Epirb and all equipment you have on every boat…dont lie people…yes…here marinas is more expensive(but you have mooring lines, toilet, shower etc)..between islands is max 2 hours..and here you are more protective from winds and is easier for swimming…
Where you see this: ''You are talking about 30m of the chain on catamaran?'' There is no such statement in the video and in my comments. It seems that you see nonexistant things and therefore accusing me of lying. Alen, that’s not nice. Anyway, thank you for your comment. Every opinion matters.
Do you think that, even if what you say is correct, 50 meters of chain is acceptable? I would say that such a statement, anywhere else in the world, is a public declaration of total lack of proper seamanship; and by that alone we can safely disregard your opinion, which, if anything, further confirms the point about Croatian understanding of anchoring.
Very helpful and informative. I have experience in Croatia, have been there many times, but not yet in Greece. I'm planning to visit Greece in the near future and your videos help me what to expect, what differences there are. Thanks! ⛵😀
Glad it was helpful!
Croatian charter boats are much more religable... Almost all companies in CRO keeps the fleet, not just enough to charter, like they're meticulously maintained by beloved owner... in GRE anything broken in the boat will be fixed at saturday morning, in CRO everything replaced by a new one, no matter how much it costs... BUT... GRE prevails over almost everything, in every aspect but the boats herselfs...
Croatia has the youngest charter fleet in the world and the distances are shorter than in Greece, so major breakdowns happen less often and when they do happen, repairs are possible in a shorter time, also due to the fact that settlements with technical infrastructure are also nearby. It is also true that Greece prevails in many aspects, and the reasons for this are very complex.
One point. It is easier to get a discount for charter in Greece. Mooring in local ports in Greece is usually free, although you will have no services. Mooring to a buoy in Croatia is often as much as marina in Greece.
I believe that the buoy in Croatia costs even more than marina in Greece
@@LIVE_AT_FULL_SAILS True.
Very well said!
If I may add, in Croatia you constantly have the feeling that you are being ripped off. Never in Greece.
Thank you 👍
Regarding anchor chain, safety equipment, stability of winds etc... there seems to be slight neighborly bias: there is one tiny detail to be considered- TOPOGRAPHY. Islands are closer, shallows are abundant in Croatia while Greek islands are widely spread and whole Greece is on average deeper. You have a fair chance to die (as it happened recently) only around outer Adriatic islands Svetac or Jabuka. Regarding prices- you answered it yourself- Croatia is closer and therefore getting more and more overcrowded.
How did someone die
@@kleitosaliagas5668 Guy drowned. Somewhere around outer Croatian islands. I don't remember exactly. I just remember unsuccessful search party that lasted for a while. If you can float- you usually don't drown among other islands. Plenty of people have tried. Few have succeeded.
An incredible point to make. The sea requires respect, at any distance. Depth higher than 1.7meters is dangerous. Those who think otherwise create an unsafe culture where accidents will happen. And what does anything of what you say have to do with anchor chain?
who give you 30 meter chain ,this is bullshit .normally 50-75 meter chain. but croatia bay anchor is usually on 4-10 meter depth. Croatia have over 15000 bay and cove for free anchor.croatia distance from island to island or net bay is from 5 minute to 1-hour sail,in greec day to couple day. tie to land, tree, rock in Croatia is forbidden, this and next year don't do this fine is around 600-1000€
A turisti to piju, njima se ionako svašta more prodat i pitaju ima li još.
Till now the longest chain I got in Croatia was from company Pitter, boat Lagoon 45 2015 Stella which had 50 meters. That was this July and another one Hanse 505 (Simone) from company Oryx (Frapa), also 50 meters 3 weeks ago. All other boats had 40, 35 or even 30 meters of chain, no more. The one in the video, Sileb, had only 30 meters. Charter company representative said, that this is standard for that type of boat. You can figure it out which charter company it was. I won't tell bad things with names, because I probably don't know all the circumstances, but 30 meters is, sadly, a fact 🤷♂️
Thanks Bostjan. Was deliberating Greece or Croatia for next year. Mind made up I think! : )
I am very happy that my video helped 🤗
The main difference is that Greece is Greece. Croatia is certainly a beautiful country but it cannot be compared with Greece, with its islands and not only, cradle of Western civilization and culture, with the best climate in the Mediterranean, with its cuisine but above all with its friendly inhabitants. From experience I cannot say the same about Croatians. Thank you.
You might have to do some more balanced research.
Says a greek guy 😂
What are you talking about? Have you ever been to Croatia or you are just having your perspective from seeing football hooligan clashes between Greeks and Croats?
By far, Greece. Much more friendly people. 😊
very good video - thanks. you have sold me on Greece. i agree on the chain issue. the longer the better!
Glad it was helpful!
Chartering, as a basic activity in its fundamental sense, is established solely for the purpose of consumption, and therefore cannot have any other meaning. We are all human, and in the Western world, we are all part of the world of consumption. The sooner you accept this as a worldview principle, the easier it will be to navigate life as a person.
Hello, thanks for the nice comparison. Here in Croatia, October has made a pleasant stay at the sea possible.
October will probably become the best month for proper sail in Croatia. Or even november. Thank you for your comment 🙏
More bit i lipo stabilno vrime.
I've already been in october, november and in december. It can be rough, I agree. I've been 14 days ago. In 7 days, we had three weather deteriorations, so unfortunately, we spent every evening in marinas. But because of that, we had excellent sailing. Last year, I was there around November 1st (shown in one of my videos), probably my best timing so far. Of course, it’s not summer, the weather isn’t stable, so you have to be smart and you will have a great time if you came for sailing.
Should use the word Motoring and not sailing as 2 hours sailing over ten days is not sailing
It wasn't even two hours. And I believe ''cruising'' or even ''konoba hunting'' would probably be more appropriate term. But almost everyone calls this ''sailing'' and with other terms video wouldn't get your attention 🤷♂😉
Thank you Bostjan this was really helpful as Im looking next year to do the coastal Skipper. Can I ask if you had already completed the day Skipper ? I see you used 7 Seas sailing? would you recommend them, do they use the same instrutors or are they contracted in ?
I haven't completed day Skipper because I already had boating licence issued in my country and done many sails even as a skipper prior to my Coastal Skipper course. About instructors I really don't know. I made it with Angelo (Vangelis) and I really don't know others. It is intersting that I met Angelo twice after the completition of my course. Once in Ermioni 2 month after and again this year in june in Alimos marina. He always gave me some advice about bays, where to stay over night in meltemi for instance😄
I was there first week of May 2024. Indeed almost nobody.
I just finished week sailing trip in Croatia... madness how many boats still...
What may have happened here is that they just tried to moor, but the anchor didn't hold. Still, the minute that was noticed, you'd want to sail away (engine trouble?). Weird af is the guy with the windlass remote not even attempting to get a fender, or ask for one.
Thanks for the info
Fully agree. Pakleni Islands are beautiful. 😀

We have been in Necujam bay for two days at end of august. Perfect calm bay. Sunken ship is magnet for a lot of visitors. But in reality is is for 10-15 minutes. The best part was a man that creates drinks on boat.
Was this man still present in August? I read that they forbid him to work due not having any permit...
Thank you Sir, well done. Looks like fun.
Thank you too. It is fun, indeed 😆
I did not think that starting a yt channel is so difficult. I've discovered your channel a few days ago after returning from Croatia a one week charter sailing. I've find your channel very useful for me so I've subscribed today and looking forward to see new content. Thanks for all the hard work! 😀⛵

Very nice video. We have been close to you in Paklina bay. We stay there for two weeks. Very nice calm place.
Thank you. Were you there in summer aswell?
@@LIVE_AT_FULL_SAILS yes. Our boat was next to your boat ( side to side). Look at part in stari grad. The double mast boat. We spent a lot of time on boat. In Stari Grad we anchored twice for almost 3 weeks.
I see it now and really can't believe it. What a coincidence. I'm very happy about it. I remember you well, I always check ketch boats, I'm a great fan of Amel (because of the Delos I believe :))
Are you still on boat now? On saturday I'm going on another sailing week in the same area, hoping for some real wind this time. And on monohull, which I like more. They are more pristine :)
@@LIVE_AT_FULL_SAILSNot now. Its a week that i left the boat. But surely i will come on boat in a short time. We are thinking to participate on Jabuka regatta, just for fun.
Excellent presentation. But why there is no night navigation?
Good question, Stojan. There was none. It was planned, but wasn't executed by the decision of the instructor and I really don't know why. Thankfully, I got enough night sails and passages elsewere.
Hallo, is it allowed to use shorlines in HR?
It is not allowed. But in main season you won't find a bay without many boats with shorelines
It is not allowed, but it is not forbidden either. In practice this means that the waterway must not be obstructed with a long line of the anchored boat which is tied to the shore. That can be a danger to smaller vessels that pass there at night.
I agree totally. Told them many times, but they still wanted to do it 🤷♂
I know about the name of Paklin's islands (Paklinski), but even croatian people has problems with correct pronounciation. About tie to the rocks I'm aware of it, but sometimes there is no other way.
Okačit ga negdje di dobro stoji oko skale.

I just don't understand why everybody feels the need to go to the places that are absolutely not special at all ? What is this obsession with going to Hvar, Vis and Solta ? There are so many other places, which are far better, and are also for free, where you can go to ? We arrived, with our own boat, in Croatia (from Greece) in mid June and at the moment it is mid September, we are still around (now in Murter) and we have not spent a single day in a marina, not a single day in a port, we have only been on our own anchor and only in Pula we needed to pay for that (20 euro per day). We have not passed by the heavily overpriced popular restaurants, we simply went to the ones that are not the most likely ones and all of a sudden prices are cut in half. We have eaten oysters for free in Istra (you can just grab them from the concrete walls, like the locals do). In other words, sailing in Croatia is expensive for those who only want to go where everybody else goes. And the problem with that is you end up in anchorages which are completely unsafe. I saw an anchorage in your video where it would have been total chaos if you would have been hit by a thunder storm. To me that is not a safe place to be, so we don't go there. When I can slam into another boat when I am on a mooring buoy then that buoy is unsafe and I won't take it. After seeing your video I start to understand why people call Croatia expensive. If you go to the hyped up places it is indeed expensive. But if you go to the not so popular places and use your own anchor, don't go to the popular restaurants etc, you can save yourself thousands of euros. May want to give it a try next time. We will stay in Croatian waters until end of October, then we will go back to Greece, can highly recommend the low season.
Davedavids, where do you get water? Do you have watermaker?
@@LIVE_AT_FULL_SAILS we have indeed a water maker onboard, but if you don't you can always pull into a port or fuel station and get some water.
@@davedavids9619 ...but in ports will charge you for water during high season, or not? Till now I never got it for free, there was always someone there or even no free tap. If you took it a canister or two on petrol station I guess it is duable, but if you want 600 liters, it will take you at least half an hour to do it and if there is a line of boats behind you.. Maybe if you do it simultaniously, but you need much more water than diesel, so ...
@@LIVE_AT_FULL_SAILS it is a matter of timing mostly. During day time you can always come into a port or marina for some water. Not all water is good water however, so be aware that you cannot drink that water, it is just for showering, toilet and for cooking if you first boil the water for about 5 min. During the morning hours, after everybody leaves there is enough time to come in, top up the tanks and leave again. If you have 600, 1000 or 1500 liters onboard you should be able to last for a few days. So planning your stops for water is a good idea. Yes, you will have to pay for the water, sometimes they charge 1 euro per 100 ltr or even 2 euro per 100 ltr, but that is still cheaper than paying 200 euro for a night in a marina. And if the fuel station has water as well you just take the water while you take the fuel. If you have to drag out the fuel stop you just use a slower flow rate. But also in fuel stations there are slow times, usually Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday there aren't that many clients and if there are it is only at the end of the day. We were just last week in Brbinj (Dugi Otok) and there was a water connection on the municipal quay. If you are familiar with Navily you will know that they always state if you can get water there or not.
@davedavids9619 thank you. I will really check in Navily. For now, the only place where I could get free water, was Greece. Or almost free, lets say Poros for 4 EUR, Serifos for 10 EUR for staying over night, and even for free in Monemvasia.
Very nice presentation. Croatia is too crowdy and too expensive for me thou.
It really is!
@TheNatkica, if you would go to the not so standard places, go outside of the main high season (mid July - end of August) you will find it is much quieter and you can still have complete anchorages to yourself. But in order to do that you will have to say goodbye to the standard places like Bol, Hvar city, Solta, Skradin, Zadar, Vis, Dubrovnik etc. As an example, we could have stayed in the marinas in Dubrovnik back in June when we arrived. Would have costed us 150 euro for a night. Instead we went 10 min North to a place called Zaton, anchored for free and the scenery was more beautiful than the marina in Dubrovnik. We still made it into the old town of Dubrovnik, just paid much less.
