Profound interview. I'm watching and listening intently. I have a very intense story and I appreciate you Peter for giving people this platform. I'm a trauma survivor. I'm a patient of EMDR therapy and have been doing weekly sessions for 6 months now after receiving a CPTSD diagnosis. I found that the trauma created my addictions and once I dealt with my trauma, addiction seems silly, almost childish to the new way of thinking and coping. Thank you so much for sharing this, both of you.

I am 18, I started using cannabis oil when I was 17 because I had a severe insomnia and depression due to a lot of problems I have had from my teenage years. I have to say it has literally saved my life! I was offered antidepressants as well as melatonin, and I knew I didn’t want to use that as it is scarily bad for you. Therefore I tried weed and instantly I was able to get a bit of sleep and rationalise my problems a little bit better. Since then I have used it almost every day for a year (like you would a sleeping pill or antidepressants, I take it before bed), however my depression has never truly gone away. I’m wrestling with a big issue and quite a lot of trauma at the moment (which I have been for a number of years but recently I’ve been presented with a big decision and don’t know what to do) therefore, I could feel my depression worsening. I thought that there is a small possibility that it could be the weed exaggerating this so I have taken a few months off to check, and my mental wellbeing has dropped like a stone! Many people could/ would turn round to me and say that it is the drug but in truth, all that is happening is that I’m reverting back to the way my life was before I took weed. Ive had absolutely no issue quitting in the slightest, but everyone around me is commenting on how much worse I am. It is also probably worth noting that every doctor I have ever seen has told me to get tested for autism, mainly down to how I articulate myself, but I won’t get tested as I have already lived my life labeled with one disability I don’t want another label! I only mention this because I am told there is an excessive amount of anecdotal evidence to suggest that cannabis can work wonders for people with those conditions. I have never once been paranoid or shown any negative effects from the drug, and it has also helped me put on weight (I was about 6.5 stone before I took weed and now I’m probably about 7.5 even though I do not know the exact number). All of this talk of weed being bad for youth may have some basis but surely not for everyone? To say it is negative for all youth when people drink from an extremely early age and take things such as antidepressants at ages way younger than 18 when these things are far more negative than weed is surely quite a naive, and blanket statement for something that can be so medically beneficial? From what I understand weed unlike drugs such as alcohol, has a massive genetic component to it. I may never get stoned again as I have always hated the fact that I do it, I have never been somebody who wants to drugs of any description whether that be alcohol or even paracetamol 😂. However, I thought it worth mentioning that it isn’t negative for all young minds, I can say with absolute certainty that I wouldn’t be alive today if not for the year that I used cannabis, If you ask me alcohol is the real poison!

I would love to learn more. I am 27 now. I smoked weed from age 17-23 everyday all day. I suffered a lot during those years with other issues and these past four years I’ve been healing. I am trying to learn how weed may have affected my brain in order to be more gracious with myself in areas where I feel I am socially or intellectually lacking as an adult.

I should have said I would try those products. Having never tried one, it was poor judgment on my part to say I would never try one. I don't think there is anything in a marijuana plant that is toxic if it is simply extracted. I might find them too strong or too mild, depending on which one I tried. There has not been a single overdose and we have around 15,000 people on the program. There hasn't even been a single adverse health event, which is a remarkable good safety record. Obviously I would prefer to use raw cannabis.

My first prescribed opiate Oxycontin was literally killing me but I knew nothing about pain management or pain medications back then. Next was Opana and many more in Tennessee. I have an allergy/intolerance list of namebrand and generic prescribed Medications that is very long and this list keeps being altered and deleted and THEY continue to prescribe the same medications that were on and some are still on the list. I have been taking too many every day since 1990 and my body has had it and no one will order the diagnostic testing especially with contrast to help me know what is causing all of this immobilizing pain. The medical malpractice in Tennessee continues to be covered up in Iowa. This involved a primary care and a well known chain pharmacy in my hometown but myself the patient is not the one that is protected which must mean the Hippocratic Oath is gone.

No cause of death like Respiratory or a Myocardial Infarction but Kratom caused it. I'm in pitiful shape and can barely stand for long or walk or do anything so after about 5 years of consuming Kratom I am not in a nursing home have no respiratory depression/suppression and 2 of my over 45 diagnoses is Emphysema and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Condolences but please don't demonize what you don't know the true facts about. I knew while riding in medical transportation to medical appointments and I can add a pHarmacy drop I noticed it at markets and I knew this would cause problems in Des Moines and Iowa. I know better than put the Truth about why my health has been deteriorating since being here but it has nothing to do with Kratom 🌿

I am sorry for their loss. I am curious why a RN who works in the ER isn't better educated about the drugs that's around in the community. I hope she recieves the education to help educate others. I remember warning my own children specifically about Fentanyl over 5 years ago. It doesn't take a whole pill to kill someone. It can be a dusting on the pills or laced into marijuana. Fentanyl is really scarey and I would think an ER nurse would have warned her child of the dangers of this drug. Seems a lack of parenting and communication happened here as well. Her parents knew she had a history of drug abuse and you think they would have moved mountains to educate her in the dangers of drugs and get her the help that she so needed. We need to close our borders because this is partly how they get here in our country. We need stiffer penalties for drug dealers as well. We also need parents to be parents before it's too late. Heartbreaking outcome.
