How much the MMC Cost to Build & My Thoughts
I'd love to know what your highway MPG is with the camper on and with it off! planning to build something like this for my maverick
Hey Just came across your site. Subscribed Excellent work and content
I appreciate it! I'm glad you like the content.
You willing to sell your plans?
Yes, I've had a few people ask. However they're not super detailed, just laid out on graph paper, which might be enough..
Good job, good design and functional!
Thank you!
Where did you get the lifting towers?
I got them from etrailer, www.etrailer.com/Camper-Jacks/Brophy/CJ74.html
Nice & simple is best!
Cool video 😎👍 and respect 💯 and nice and wow 😮!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude this is so cute! You’re going to be such a great dad! Thanks for sharing
Haha, thanks!
What would something like this cost?
Customer built around $6-7K. For diy: $1500ish.
Available for purchase?
Well…potentially. Send me an email through my channel!
Looks good my brother, but I'd be too big for the bed myself lol
Haha! Really? How come?!
Thanks, Scott! What is the inside height when it is raised?
Looks awesome!
Thanks!!
The camper looks great on the Maverick! Thanks for sharing
You bet!
Another awesome build! Looks really good, thought out and clean. Nice work man!!
Thanks a bunch!
Looks dangerous
I get that, mounted jacks would be nicer, but they can add time and weight too. This works for now, thanks for commenting!
Why didnt you just buy a van instead of converting truck to ghetto van?
Looks good. i would like to see it on the truck. Also i would like to see what you did with the antenna.
ruclips.net/user/shortsicauU7fFqts?feature=share I'll need to get a better view with antenna.
Ventilation for accumulation of condensation is where?
There isn't. So far it's been fine, but I might add one on the next. There are also some small openings around the door and tailgate that can allow some air to pass.
Nice build.
Thanks!
I can't wait to see it when you're done. Do you have a picture of your design? How will you raise the top?
Thanks! Here's one update. I planned to raise it by lifting the ceiling from inside with a support, then using 4 bolts on each corner to hold it. Or, usually I'll be with someone to lift from the outside. Unfortunately though, I lost interest in this build. Ultimately it's too small, and the gaps are more than I want to deal with. But if someone else wants to continue with the idea, more power to them!

ruclips.net/user/shortsHjm4Ahm7Fds
Awesome explanation. Thank you!! How do you manage insects getting in? My kids would lose their mind with mosquitoes since I’m in NY and they are pretty bad here.
Haha! I have an electric fly swatter that I use when we get inside for the night and close the door. There are small open cracks around the door and tailgate. You could add foam or something to seal it off. But it hasn't been a big challenge for me!
Nice camper! You do a great job.. are you building these to sell also?
Thank you! Not exactly, but potentially!
Nice! How long is the cabover part?
It's just shy of four feet hanging outside, but the bed portion is the full 4 feet wide.
Things are always easier when everything is 90deg, but it will bring out the creativity in you 👍
Haha! Thanks! I have another good implementation with the larger cabover design that I thought of to extend the bed space within the 4x8' sheets of plywood and still make it work. All about creative problem solving!
Definitely looking good!
Thanks!
These builds are so cool dude, got me thinking about building something for my Mav. Keep it up 🔥
Thanks man! I appreciate!
Very exciting!
Hey there! Thank you!!
I'll be excited to see the popup. I like that the unibody construction means a cabover bed could rest right on the roof of the cab and stretch the whole length keeping more of the tiny bed for living space. I also found that a load in the back of my hybrid maverick that included a crate 60" tall and 30" wide dropped my gas mileage from 37+ to 21 at 80mph so a popup instead of a standup should save lots of gas.@ScottsMiniCampers
Great!! Just one question. Could you give the side height of the topper?
Yeah, of this camper it's a full width of a sheet of plywood, 4 feet!
@@ScottsMiniCampers thanks
I like it Scott! Can you do another video with it on your Maverick please? Also say if you have only the two person bed up top, Can you use the bottom for storage or something else? Thanks for sharing this video! Been looking forward to seeing it!
Sure! Thanks, you bet! Yeah if you sleep up top, the whole bottom is completely open for storage or whatever you want!
Nice 👍 But like many camper manufacturers, you over estimate the number of people that can sleep comfortably, sardines are packed in squishy 🤣 Best wishes
Haha, good point!
Looks awesome! Would love a walkthrough on the specs of the wood used and where to optimize strength while keeping weight down. I have a plan to make something similar but at the main corners, I was going to use metal corner workbench brackets because I’m paranoid about it breaking
Nice! I'll consider that! Overall I'm pretty pleased with the build and strength, thanks!
Love it man, good job
Glad you like it!
I'd pay 5000 easy.
Scott have you considered doing a set of plans and a material list. I would be interested in purchasing one from you.
Thanks! I'll try to look into that more.
What did you use for the outside finish?
primer and exterior grade paint, a few coats. Also, exterior caulking for all the seams, knots, and gaps.
Great looking unit. Has some good interior ideas. Did you waterproof it and if so what did you use.
Thanks! I used primer and exterior grade paint, a few coats. Also, exterior caulking for all the seams, knots, and gaps.
Wanna build another one for mine???? Please. That’s awesome
Thanks! I have several build requests...but not enough time..
There is a gap between the bottom of the camper and the bed edge around the front, how did you deal with that? Thanks!
You bet! There's a few minor gaps due to curvature of the wood that create a few minor gaps between the truck bed top and bottom of the wood camper frame. For that, I just used truck shell seal. It's $7 on amazon and it's a nice roll of 1.5" wide foam to create a seal. Then clamping the camper down closes the gaps. I hope that helps! amzn.to/3XoQYB6
@@ScottsMiniCampers Exactly the answer!
If the camper is 12inches wider then the box does it block the view of the mirrors when you check traffic behind you?
Good question! It actually doesn't. The mirrors sit below the camper so I have a pretty good field of view behind me!
@@ScottsMiniCampers I watch all the videos you posted on this topper build and I was impressed with what you have done One more question did you use 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood on this project. ?
@@georgemoorcroft6835 Thank you! I use 3/8" plywood for the majority of all my builds to be lightweight and strengthen it with split 2x3's.
Nice build! Congratulations! ..do you know the weight?
@@MarcRademacher Thanks! ruclips.net/video/A4Bixz-7pUM/видео.html
Hello Scot I am interested in buying a camper for ford maverick if you have one
Well, thanks! I don't have one currently, but might be taking custom build requests. Send me an email!
👍
The whole point of getting that truck is the fuel mileage, yet he just put a giant wind wall. And the truck bed frame… let’s see what happens, did we learn anything from that goofy Toyota guy with the same pickup set up.
Hey, let me tell you more. Watch my other videos. Last year, I built a very similar camper and took it 1200 miles round trip to Yellowstone and averaged 32 mpg on the whole trip! You can’t beat that! This one is only slightly larger! Also, that camper only weighed 180 pounds!
I think you have great ideas for a Maverick camper. I am using some of them to build my own. I have two 2023 Maverick,a hybrid and a AWD.
Your latest one is close to what I am building except mine will have the tub so will be free standing. Don't know if the sidewalls are sturdy enough. Plus I like to be able to use it in either one of my Maverick. Need to find a good solution for camper jacks using two jacks is not too stable. Likely go with three or four. Planning to go to Newfoundland this summer with the camper.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you like it! That’s cool, I’d like to see what you come up with! The sidewalls have been fine for me, on this new one I added a 2x3 for extra strength, I also increased the lower sheet of plywood the camper rests on from 3/8 to 1/2”. With those improvements, among several others, this new camper will be excellent! Also, you may have seen the tripod jacks I use. There designed for truck campers, I bought them new from etrailer for around $550. They have worked very well and I love them! Also, you probably already know, but be prepared for how much extra potential weight adding the base will be. My new camper I expect will weigh around 230 pounds, without a base. Anyways, that’s exciting and I hope it goes well for you!
Its made of wood
Great camper. Building something similar.
That’s awesome!
Nice work Scott. 😃 Now you need to give us a tour of your cool tool cart... It looks very handy!!
Good idea - thanks!
Hi Scott. Thanks again for all your videos. I'm finally starting to build mine. Well, sort of. I cut out a cardboard template for the front wall, and part of a side wall to see how high i want to go above the cab. Question. How did you deal with the plastic trim corners in the front, that curve Does the whole box of the camper sit behind the curve or above it? Do you have any pictures of how it looks sittng on the truck? Sort of hard to tell from the video. I want to rest my side overhangs on the side rails. Thanks 😃
You bet! This if my hobby and I really enjoy it! Yeah, I'm not a fan of that little curve, but I've gotten around it by increasing the height of the camper sides by about 1", so it lifts above that little curve.
Nice! Do the side overhangs rest on the sidewalls of the truck?
Not on this camper, all the weight rests on the floor of the truck bed. Just on my recent topper campers do I clamp/rest the weight to the sides of the truck bed.
Hi Scott. Wondering what the length of the overhang is? I'm planning on building something like this for my Maverick, but I'm still trying to get ideas. Having trouble deciding if i want it to overhang the cab and if i want to build it with 2 " foam or plywood or a combination. I want it to be light as possible.
Cool! The length on this camper overhang was about 18" on the exterior with 12" going into the camper, for a 30" wide bed. However, I'm building another camper right now that has an exterior overhang of about 38-40" and 8-10" on the interior for a 2 person bed. I'm also using 3'4" plywood and extra support to handle it. Good luck with yours!
👍
