Something like this happened to me outside the ticket office in St Petersburg Russia. I didn't understand where to by tickets nor for a special exhibition nor where to go in, etc, so I was in a line and I that speak Spanish started talking in English to a girl that spoke English and Chinese and her friend spoke only Chinese but the friend of that friend spoke Chinese and Russian. So I started asking all the questions about tickets, exhibition, St Petersburg and it would go through the girls and the last one would answer or go ask at the ticket office and she would tell the girls and than to me. It was soooo 😂😂😂😂 funny. I remembered this I love Lucy for sure.
Hilarious! Such skillback when you needed to rehearse over and over to get it just right. Unlike today with lazy comedy where the show up the day of shooting and haven't even read the script.
I've watched this scene and all the other episodes thousands of time since I was a little kid watching the reruns on KTTV Los Angeles in the 70s. I've always loved the parts where Ricky speaks Spanish because I understood what he is saying. This scene is probably my favorite of the entire series. I just crack up every time. Best show ever on TV.
Working as a salad chef in an American restaurant in the 80s, one task was to go to the tabac and get cartons of the most popular brands of cigarettes to be sold as a courtesy to patrons (very much the done thing back in the day). It was all very old school, crossing the rue St. Denis in my kitchen whites (apron included) and buying the goods. One time, they refused to take a counterfeit 50 franc note and I flipped out! I ran back to my boss and told him... He simply put the phony bank note back in the till and said "no problem. Someone'll take it." And that was that.
Why don't they just report the counterfeit money man? ¿Por qué no denuncian al falsificador de dinero? Warum melden sie den Mann mit dem Falschgeld nicht einfach? Pourquoi ne dénoncent-ils pas simplement le vendeur de fausse monnaie ?
The cop who spoke French and German was probably a collaborator during the war. Since the Spaniard knows German, he fought with the Franco facists during the Spanish civil war😉 Just saying! But the skit is hilarious.
One of my favorite episodes and I had a similar experience in West Africa, though I was not under arrest, it was just communicating with a tribal king that went from his tribal language to French to Ewe to English....so a line of 3 people to translate lol
I'm from Texas but raised in Germany, and I saw this episode as a very young kid (8ish?). It's the most memorable episode of I Love Lucy I ever watched. I speak English and German and I understand Spanish and French. As a kid, my eyes popped out of my head on this scene and my entire family laughed HARD!
On their European trip they were supposed to go to Britain, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany (I don't know what order). I remember this scene from France and scenes from Britain and Italy. I do not remember any scenes from Spain or Germany. Were those ever covered in the episodes?
Después de ver este video, recién me doy cuenta de la importancia de aprender idiomas con Duolingo ja ja ja ja
Inimitables e insuperables. Gracias por compartir.

This is classic!
I love how they all copy each other’s body language. 😅
I did this in Italy a few times. Ever speak in the wrong language?

This comedy act is a Master Piece
My second favorite scene of all time, next to Bill Holden.
The German officer was the clearest, followed by French, English and Spanish
🤣🤣🤦♂🤦♂
German needs translation perfecting
I Love Lucy at its peak of brilliant writing.... Sadly the spin-offs could not match the original in genuine humor... 🧐
No wonder the show became a legend. ha ha!
They did a variation of this scene on "Frasier", with fewer people. It was in the episode where Niles confronts Maris's fencing instructor.
Frasier copied this idea in the swordfighting scene when Niles thought a German was involved with Maris. Worked perfectly again!
One of the funniest scenes.

I love this cause this happens at my job everyday... 🤣

They did make a pit stop in Switzerland and were stuck in a cabin during a snowstorm.
I just showed this to my 20yo son. He laughed his head off! Thank you for posting it.
