Mike McCallum Outdoors
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 янв 2016
Hi everyone.
Thank you for having a look at my page "Exploring Scotland". I created this channel to share some of the places in Scotland as I pass along the way.
Please do follow me whether it is a walk in the hills or a low-level walk on some beautiful beaches or a walk through a village or town with its own peculiar history and architecture.
I maybe try out new equipment too.
Many of my tours in the van will include admiring the scenery with a few photos and videos. Sometimes I do a walk around a castle or cathedral or on tour with all of the above done with a bit of location history thrown in.
My outdoor background includes hillwalking with (to date) 240 Munros, some climbed many times, climbed many more hills and fished many a lochs and have been through many a glen or over, more than I can remember. And that is why I now I take videos and photos on the way.
Thank you again and I hope you will follow and enjoy these days out on the journeys of Mike McCallum".
Cheers,
Mike

Two Towns Down Micro-brewery and Taproom. The first in over 125 years to open in Paisley, Scotland.
Two Towns Down micro-brewery and taproom, 47 Back Sneddon Street, Paisley, PA3 2DD:
As promised from Saturday , a visit to the new "Two Towns Down" micro-brewery and taproom.
The first brewery and taproom to open in Paisley in 125years. Something for the McKelvies, the owners, to be proud of.
Sandy the son, was away by now but he is chief brewer and must have a lot of quaffabble friends.
And I have to visit even though I got my timing wrong. I thought it was open till 10pm but shuts at 9 and only opens on a Saturday.
But I was still made so welcome by Liz and Sandy McKelvie.
Another one of those invites of "If passing do pop in, take photos", and I was passing so I did take up that offer and po...

The Crinan canal being drained, October 2022 Drone video. The Crinan Canal starts at Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne, and ends nine miles away at Crinan on the Sound of Jura. It was designed to provide a quick link between the west coast and islands at one end and the Clyde Estuary at the other, and so avoid the long voyage around the south end of the Kintyre peninsula. .It is now looked after by Scott...

So my best wishes to Boylestone quarry, the Fereneze hills and the golf club, oh and the wildlife which will face a bit of upheavel.

St. Conan's kirk. If you must visit one place, a little chapel, a kirk on the shores of Loch Awe, then you must stop at St. Conan's. A lovely place to stop at when on your way to Oban or heading back to Glasgow or Edinburh or Stirling. The eccliastical architecture is a gem but most of it is built as a folly, a whim in its many opposing designs...and yet it works. It is just lovely to look at a...
Scotland: Argyll, Barcaldiine - The Racers' Cafe.

If touring around Appin and Duror, then a wee cafe and restaurant I can recommend is the Racer Cafe at Barcaldine, PA37 1SE. It has plenty of parking space regardless of the size of your rig, great views, a playground for kids and just great food and you are made very welcome by Lee Williamson and Co. I was so impressed with the American diner theme that I had to make a video of in case I misse...
Scotland: Stanely castle and reservoir, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Stanely castle has been a landmark, in Paisley for over 5 centuries, and in the last 150 years has become slowly enveloped by the ever-increasing urban housing of workers for the mills and other works. Nowadays the castle has become a silent sentinal to a backdrop of the reservoir now becoming a favourite place for dog-owners to take their pet for a daily walk. If in a car, you can barely see t...

There is a beauty in day to day things in this world. For example, Harvest time. It happens every year, yet that rhythm, that knowing next year will be the same as last year, as it has been for thousand of years and yet...? Set to a beautiful piece of music I heard when watching Lewis Crassic Gibbon's "Sunset song" (2015 version), with Peter Mullen, Agyness Deyn and Kevin Guthrie, just watching...

A visit to Loudoun hill in east Ayrshire. It was a visit I had meant to do many times over the years but life got in the way. The hill has its place in Scottish history and the main one being it was where Robert the Bruce and the Scottish army fought a battle against Aymer de Valance, the top man of England's King Edward and his army. This battle, in the Scottish Wars of Independence took place...

No faces are recognisable anymore. Hardly a word of English, either. Its terrible every time time i go back its full of more foreigners and less of the locals are in good housong, most are passed over for good housing in favour of migrsnnts.
Girvan could be much more than it is at present. Neglected by the local authorities.
Crap place!!
Well you could be any one...from a rival cafe even?
Yes indeed I could be....but I'm not. Just a local nearby resident, giving an honest comment. Really you need to rebrand, and refit...The Racer cafe, makes no sense, cheap and tacky!!!.....and stop ripping customers off!!...
Good God in Govan, my dad was a fireman in the old Govan Station. Lovely Photos.
Thank you. I used yo deliver milk into the Govan fire station at Orkney place 1968-69, so I might have known your dad but wouldn't remember after so long.
Govan like so many other places is just a shadow of its former self, so sad how places change so drastically but very rarely for the better.
Agreed, but that can be said if almost any place that has big shopping centres and their main industries shut down forcing people to move away from what was a tightly-knit community. Just look at Paisley, or Partick, Neilston and Barrhead.
thanks so much for this lovely video My sister was born there and we lived for a few years of my early childhood. Loved running on the beaches
Hi. Thank you. Do glad you liked the video and brought back memories for you. I'm sure Girvan is due another visit so I will try to do another video fir you and your sister. 👍
Thank you from Australia
Thank you for appreciating.
Worked up in Renfrew in '67 at Scottish Cables Ltd. I was 17/18 and loved it. Went back to Liverpool for a year before heading out to Australia with a few quid in my pocket and the clothes on my back.
You made the right move. 👍
My big mate was called Ian boag
I am a great grand daughter of The Houstouns of Renfrewshire
Hi Gayla. I have done a bit more of Johnstone and the Lamb family but on my Facebook group, if you would care to look, like or subscribe. m.facebook.com/groups/667451144638072/?ref=share

Thanks Mike, I have passed by this church many times over the years whilst driving, and always winder about the interior. Now I know and it is wonderful.
Thank you. Glad you appreciated. 👍
Thank you. This is lovely.
Thank you for appreciating the video.
It looks bigger than i rememberd it. But i was only in the front of the rai in 1981 with a broken arm.
Interesting

My mother was born in Napier Drive 1939
Maybe you should have went further down the scheme to Whiteford etc and see how much the council have neglected the prefabs and how much money owners are having to put out to maintain. Poor poor input from Renfrewshire Council to help home owners upgrade the standard.
Maybe?? It's an unpaid hobby for me not a crusade? Plus you need to give me more info than just what you said. 😉
Outstanding video, very scenic
Thank you. Well worth a visit if passing that way. Also look at St. Conan's kirk too. Magical 👍
Beautiful x❤
Thank you.
To the Poster. I'm 41. Do you remember the rescued fox 🦊 they had?
He loved his Polo Mints!
Sorry, I dont remember a particular story of z fox at the zoo. Yet I took my kids there countless times.
my nana and her family came from govan my nana i believe born on McCellan street i believe that road still exists.
I took a helicopter trip over Glasgow and Loch Lomond it was amazing but I want to do the sea plane to Oban, I’ve got a cheek I can’t even get out the chair lol 😂
Well you won't do it sitting in the chair. Make a promise to yourself to do it and book it by end of today! Best of luck.

Aye your ginger. Not heard that for a long time
@@mikemccallumoutdoors5699 the McCallums must have raked the middens ( or didgies) for a few gingies, the local currency in Govan lol 😂
I don't remember "didgies" or raking middens? Have you got the right McCallum's?
I Done this trip 15 years ago camping with tents. I’m now booking to do it again in my Motorhome thanks to your video. Thank you.
Brilliant. I did half of it on the bike znd staying in Youth Hostels. Loved it. 1997
Being a Celt I'm really surprised that ibrox football ground wasn't shown in any of videos .
Now what the hell has football and religion got to do with my video. Get a life pal.
Anybody know of John and Francis McCaskill of Govan till 1970 ish?
A fantastic and incredibly interesting place that has an amazing history.A beautiful documentary and a big plus for the absolutely magical music...🎼🎵🎶 This place is certainly of those unique in the world... Great respect 🕊️🤝
Thank you so much for the kind words and for enjoying the video. 👍

Glad you enjoyed video. There are one or two others of Girvan in my RUclips. Enjoy.
Great footage. It’s a special place
Thank you. It is indeed a great place to stop and stare. A great overnight place to park or camp and explore the hill.
I'm from the north coast of Sutherland, now living in Greece. Lovely to see these images, I know Orkney so well. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. There is more on the Orkney isles on my channel. Hopefully view and enjoy. 👍
Thanks for sharing, I also have a T5 transporter. I haven't started conversations yet as most of what I've seen seems to be very heavy and over built. I am very impressed with your simple build. And that it can all be removed quickly to allow a load to be carried. Well done .
Thank you for the kind comments. The simplicity to use the van for anything was what it was about. I'm always dumping stuff.
Simple but nice! Thanks for sharing
Thank you. That's what I was trying to show. 👍

Hi Mike, the photos of the Glen Bar Domino team, where you in them? I had the same photo in my families photo album. The 2 pics of the Glen Bar (Before it was Richards) was taken in the early 70's.
Hi. Thanks for liking video. No I am not in any of the pub photos. I would have been a year or more too young to even get into a pub. It would be good to know names or even date of photo.
I have been to the islands twice and each time sad when leaving. Thank you for a great memory trip.
