Also, the week they finally decide to give Mercedes the main event, per Tony and ITVSport Dynamite on ITV4 set the all time record: this week AEW Dynamite had our most live viewers ever in the UK! Maybe they should have given Mercedes the main event slot before now, but I'm sure it will be business as usual next week where she's not advertised for the show and we get a 2 minute backstage segment because he doesn't understand how to promote her like the star that she is.

Also, Megan Bayne debuted last week on Collision and got the graphic, but they don't have any merch created for her so they capitalize on it. Contrast that with Penta debuting in WWE, where they had merch for sale on the WWE website the same night. It's like this for the men also, but it's really bad for the women.

Good show as always guys. After Billy mentioned the lack of women's merch at the show, I decided to do some research on the Shop AEW website and outside of a few women, most of them don't have a lot of merch at all, which extends to the top stars in the women's division. Toni (36) has the most, followed by Mariah (20), Britt (18), Mercedes (12), Willow (12). No other woman has more than 10, including former women's champions Shida (8), Jamie Hayter (5), Thunder Rosa (4), Nyla Rose (3), former TBS champion Julia Hart (8), Kris Statlander (7), or rising stars like Harley Cameron (7), Anna Jay (6), and Queen Aminata (3). AEW is bad when it comes to creating merch, but for the women the situation is downright dire.

I think Roxanne Thea Hail deserves consideration for the top 10, I think it was the youngest NXT title match in history and they killed it

I think Mercedes will return to WWE one day but i think she will return as Mercedes Moné and not Sasha Banks that's the only way i could see her back in WWE tbh. WWE also doesn't seem like they're that stuck on owning ppl's names like they use to they brought in Giulia Stephanie even Jade Cargill with their own names so it seems they're not as controlling about that anymore and i think she would probably want to be Mercedes and not Sasha at this stage in her career.

Speaking of her meaningless matches in 2017-19. Guess who Sonya Deville's first singles main roster win was against, yup, Mercedes on Raw. Think it went less than 8 mins. 99% sure it was clean.

Its because of Will Ospreay why I started to pay attention to Hazuki/HZK back in 2017-18. He'd always show her love on the socials. Instantly became one of my favorites. Towards the end of her first Stardom run she was the High Speed Champion, and things weren't going so good with Rossy (former owner of STARDOM, now he runs Marigold) and his booking of her. You could tell she was shoot pissed. When she'd make her entrance she'd toss the High Speed belt up in the air and down the isle. When it landed she'd kick it the rest of the way while on the ground. Then toss it in the ring. She'd shoot on the company during her backstage interviews and did a post match in ring promo s**ting on the company & Rossy. Then she disappeared released/fired (not sure) from Stardom and Wrestling in 2019. Then she returned as a freelance wrestler at a Hana Kimura Tribute show that had nothing to do with Stardom. Then maybe a few months later she was back in Stardom. I guess her and Rossy worked things out. That High Speed Championship is her only singles gold in Stardom. Lost a few matches for the Red belt (the Top Title of Stardoms) & White belt (Stardom equivalent to WWE's IC Title). She's won the tag belts with her best friend in & out wrestling Koguma two or three times. I heard shes the head trainer for Stardom and only 27 years old. Like a year ago she trained some big K Pop singer in Japan for a one off match. The Pop singer looked great too! Her and Hazuki tagged up for a one off on a Stardom. That Pop singer can tweet anything and it gets at least 7000 retweets.

Just a bit on how Mercedes is so giving. In the match when Hazuki (HZK in the beginning of her Stardom run) hit the Tope/Suicide Dive to the outside. If you watch closely, Hazuki had her hands on Mercedes ready to roll her back in the ring. Mercedes called an audible and told Hazuki to do it again (did it twice 3x in total) because she wants to get her over even more and the way the crowd went banana (Pat Patterson) for it. It's those little things like that which makes her the best imo. Not just about moves (which she's very creative in doing) but psychology, reading the crowd doing things on the fly. That stuff impresses me, unlike other men & women just do what the Agent/Producer lays out for them. Just enjoy watching ambitious wrestling matches, not the same thing over and over with different opponents... I'd name names (men & women) but I won't, a lot of same ol' 💩. Fun Fact: that was Hazuki's longest singles match. Been in Tag/Singles Gauntlet style matches that went over 30 mins. But as far as singles, Long Beach was her longest.

I don't think Mercedes/Kris will main event World's End, but I could see them getting a premium match slot on the show. It wouldn't surprise me if Kris won, because it seems like Mercedes really likes her and will probably want to give her the rub. But I like the idea of the match ending in a time limit draw and doing the rubber match with a 2 out of 3 falls stipulation on an episode of Max.

I like the wide range of discussion, all in the context of a show about wrestling, basketball hockey football and hip hop have all been discussed in ways that flow perfectly with the show

I hope that you are taking NXT matches into consideration separately from your assessment of the main roster women's match quality

There is definitely a ceiling on what the women can do because the audience hasn't been taught that women's wrestling is important. We've never seen a Dynamite with 3 women's matches. Most of the time we barely get 2 women's matches. But they need to start there. And ignore the ratings, because they probably won't do a good number right away. And that's okay. It's like going to the gym. You have to put in the work before you can expect to see results. If they're ever going to make women's wrestling a priority, now is the time to do it. This is the best women's roster in the history of AEW. They deserve to get more time on tv and PPV, especially on the main card. At a minimum, they should be booking 3 women's matches on the main card of every other PPV, one to reward the women for their hard work, and two, to train the audience that women's wrestling matters and is important.

All of the cool stuff we see in AEW has been exclusive to the men. Blood & Guts. Continental Classic. The one thing they have given the women is the "street fight", basically a plunder match, where the emphasis is less on the wrestling and more on the spectacle. And those have been some of the best women's matches in AEW history. But again, the emphasis is on the spectacle more than the wrestling.

I think the biggest reason the women's division has failed to get traction is that their audience has been taught from day 1 that women's wrestling is not important. To be fair, when they first started, the division was not good from a talent standpoint. But since 2019 they've done very little to show people that women's wrestling matters. The women don't get much tv time, especially on Dynamite, the flagship show. Contrast that to Monday Night Raw, which had 3 women's matches last night.

AEW needs to do a better job of setting up multiple challengers for the women's titles like they do with the men. I know the AEW women's roster is small (26 women), but so is NXT (24 women) and they manage to make it work.

Kamille being Mercedes' bodyguard was a dumb idea from TK. It should have never happened, but now that they've done the breakup how do they pay it off? Does Kamille get a match vs Mercedes at World's End?

Good video guys! Willow hasn't address the Kris stuff on camera, but on Twitter she was rooting for her to lose vs Mercedes at Full Gear, so there's still some hurt feelings there on Willow's part.

I admittedly have not been the most excited person in the world when it comes to Mercedes in AEW, for a number of reasons including not liking Tony Khan or how much of a pedestal aew was put on by a specific vocal portion of online discourse. That said, I think you are spot-on that a match like this is the reason why Mercedes would be willing to make that jump. There are several people in WWE who I think she could have (and has had in some cases) this level of match with, but there is no guarantee with the way the main roster PLEs are booked and formatted. As was mentioned, this match would be even better with a good build, but they were still given 20 minutes to go out and have a great match with a great story, and they killed it. I think it is in bad faith to say that AEW has not taken strides when it comes to its women's division particularly in the last year or so (the division felt particularly hot prior to All In before things went backward in the aftermath booking and presentation wise), but there are still steps to be taken, particularly when it comes to presentation and consistency when it comes to booking and time given on shows. I do not think Mercedes is unaware of these things, and I wonder if she was motivated going into the Full Gear match at least in part with an intention of sending Tony Khan and management a message that his women's division is worth every bit of the time and investment that is put into the men's. It would be interesting to hear your perspectives on a dynamic like this, and if you think it might become a problem over time between Mercedes and Tony/management if things do not change in terms of the presentation of the division and consistency in terms of time given on AEW programming

I'm sorry I can't say Willow vs Kris was better than Mercedes vs Kris. It's two totally different type of matches. It's an Anything Goes Match. What gets the biggest pop on a wrestling show that isn't a wrestler? A goddamn table, it's more over then a lot wrestlers. The crowd boos when you slide it back under the ring untouched. So you have that, chairshots, thumbtacks, kendo sticks and other weapons. The crowd goes insane for that stuff. You could pull Joe Blow from section Z from the crowd and put one of you guys in the ring with him and do bunch of table & chair spots. Guess what? The crowd is going to go nuts. I call it a cheap pops match, it gets over easy. How many of your all time favorites (singles) are known for those type of matches. Bet not that many, bet more so are known for 1v1. Straight up singles. And ya got ppll having the audacity to say Kris gave Mercedes her best match. HA! That's from the star ratings & Cagematch types. I tell go look at Cagematch and show me these high rated Stat matches, aren't too many... now Mercedes on the other hand, you know. Never been the star rating type I judge with the two eyes god gave me, but for those that do Cagematch proves my point. I'm not knocking Kris, but please stop the cap. I'll give her credit. She gave Jade Cargill her best match and Britt. Difference is Britt was wrestling regularly and she's barley passable, Mercedes got that was out of action for almost a year I think. Did the best what she could do with her. Plus Stat and Britt wrestled a bunch of times before Britt got her best match. One more thing.. 😂 I was listening to some pod and dude said Mercedes is only good when she's wrestling someone on her level (who dat lol) or better (LOL). Maaaan, I hit up their RUclips channel and went to the comments section and told those two guys, you must have not been following her entire main roster run. Great Balls of Fire vs Bliss (and other matches, SSlam '17) ,Lacey Evans, Tamina, Nikki Cross, Shotzi, Alicia Fox (TLC' 17) etc. Told em Carmella isn't really known for her in-ring (decent, but not top tier imo) and left a link to her & Mercedes '20 TLC match at the ThnderDome. And when she faced the top tier like Io/IYO, Rhea ( a minute of two at Survivor Series and random episode of SmackDown when the Saudi Government held WWE hostage... allegedly 😂), Becky, Charlotte, Bayley,,Auska, Kairi, Ronda (first run) etc she held her own.

A lot of what you all two are discussing gets me excited for January, when Raw moves to Netflix. Sol Ruca. Kelani Jordan. Jaida Parker from NXT Are going to thrive in Netflix Raw era if they're drafted there in 2025/2026 Jade, Tiffany Stratton, Gulia, Stephanie Vaquer and Lash/Ms. Jackson would also too thrive in Netflix Raw and would bring much excitement to the roster, given the proper booking & writing.

It's striking to me that NJPW knows exactly how to use Mercedes correctly and present her as a big star, and AEW doesn't.

At All In, we got the payoff to the Toni/Mariah story, one of the best stories AEW has ever told regardless of gender, and one that had been going on for nearly a year not in the main event (or co main event), but in the second match on the card. As much as I hate on WWE, at least they let the women kick off PLE's over there. Tony Khan is actively hurting his own women's division and I don't know if he's doing it intentionally or if he is just getting bad advice from people in AEW that women's wrestling doesn't draw, even though he got his ass kicked by an episode of NXT that was running outside of their normal timeslot that had women open and close the show.

Until Tony Khan comes to realization that the biggest obstacle his women's division has to face is his apathy towards booking them on equal footing with the men, the division will never move forward. Mercedes has been cleared since May, but hasn't main evented a single episode of Dynamite, and she's the TBS champion. Meanwhile, Shelton Benjamin has been there for a cup of coffee and already main evented. I think Ricochet has main evented and episode of Dynamite with Ospreay. Even when Mariah main evented vs Anna Jay on Collision for the world title, their match wasn't the longest match on the card. That honor went to Fletcher vs Komander, a match that had no stakes and no story whatsoever.

But where Tony Khan (and others) erred was not giving the women more opportunities as the division started to grow as the level of talent in the division grew. Injuries hurt their depth, but that should have opened up a spot for someone else to step up. And audiences aren't stupid. They see what we see. The division has more talent than ever, yet just last week the entire women's division got 11 minutes of in ring time. That was less time for the week than 4 men's matches got on Dynamite. That was less time than 2 women's matches got on NXT.

I think the problem with AEW as it relates to women's wrestling is that the audience has had it beaten into their heads from Day 1 that it's not important. I wasn't a Day 1 AEW watcher, but I've plenty of articles that talked about the women's division back then not being very good, mostly due to a lack of talent. They didn't have the base of talent that the men's division had, nor did they have a lot of tv experience.

The Kris vs Kamille match was disappointing. They devoted so much time to building up the match only to give them 6 minutes and 28 seconds WITH a full commercial + PIP. That's pathetic. And this was after booking Kamille to look weak against Queen Aminata too. What was the point of this pairing if they were going to book Kamille to look like a chump once she faced real competition? I'm not sure where they go from here, other than sending her to ROH where she can get some reps, or pairing her with Deonna & Taya, because the mystique is gone.

I also don't understand what AEW is doing with Mercedes. They should be making her a MUCH bigger deal than she is. Not sure why they're not doing it, unless it's so that she doesn't overshadow Mariah as the world champion. But they need to figure it out, and quickly. Because as you mentioned, it feels like she's just another woman on the roster.

They've made Kamille look too weak as Mercedes heavy. Queen Aminata got in too much offense against Kamille last week.

I'm no RUclips expert (far from it), but I'd add a couple of hashtags in the title. ie WomensWrestling, AEW, WWE, Raw, SmackDown, NXT, the name of show or event or match you're reviewing/talking about. Maybe the ppls names who you're talking about the most in the videos. Just trying to help because you two guys good content!
