Adjusters Are The Worst
In this video I talk about working on the "dark side" as a roofing contractor. The way some adjusters treat roofing contractors is a problem. If you want to be a great adjuster, then you need to treat others with respect.

    Man i wish i would have seen this before deployment. I had planned on staying in the claims area for three weeks to do 18 post hurricane claims but then a hurricane came again two weeks later and the area was evacuated 4 days after i got to the hotel and then i got hit w the hurricane at home and lost power for 3 days. Worried our lack of training and the set backs will get us the boot after looking forward to the opportunity to help people and follow storms 🤦‍♂️ ill keep you posted in two weeks if i have new claims assigned and overcame the learning curve and other setbacks. Very exciting career indeed. I will use your method moving forward if given the opportunity.

      Hey thanks for the comment! You are technically correct, you should place it on a flat surface (usually a clipboard) that’s laying on the field shingles. Placing the pitch gauge flat against a single shingle surface vs flat on a clip board makes almost no difference in the pitch readings. However if shingles are cupped or curled then you wouldn’t want to place the gauge directly against the shingle. Also wouldn’t want to straddle two shingles as this would give incorrect.

"Oh... and by the way, we don't pay mileage anymore and we'll take 40% of your fee. Beginning in 2024, carriers are asking for more things on an inspection but not increasing the fee bill. Damage (as it pertains to property claims): Physical harm caused to something in such a way as to impair it's usefulness or value. The question boils down to did a covered peril cause the granule loss and is the granule loss sufficient to impair the shingles usefulness or value

    • @pattersonadjustertraining
      @pattersonadjustertraining 6 месяцев назад

      Great comment! Those two questions cause more issues than pretty much anything else (when dealing with hail) Is the absence of granules damage? If so what caused the loss of granules? Is this a cause of loss covered under the policy. Once AI starts doing roof inspections us adjusters and roofers will finally get along😂

      @@pattersonadjustertraining It's making it worse! Couple the AI with the carriers replacing experienced adjusters with brand new ones reading from script trees and it's only going to serve to make the lawyers more money, but hey, lawyers got to eat too lol One thing I've had a hard time getting people to understand is that granule loss alone does not mean hail caused the granule loss If there is any other evidence of hail (radar reports, spotter reports, pictures/videos, witness statements, or collateral damage) and circular-ish areas of granule loss that coincide with the date of loss then you can surmise that more likely than not, hail caused the granule loss Is the granule loss "damage" would be the next question and one that seems to get the most pushback

      @pattersonadjustertraining 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the question! I’m familiar and used both. XM8 Mobile for interiors and Hover for exterior. XM8 mobile has a learning curve and can be off a few inches depending on the way you use it and whether you’re using Disto or LiDAR. For exterior measurements I like Hover. Although I have not used Hover for interiors (yet) from what I’ve seen and read, I think Hover is the way to go. They can provide accurate measurements and diagrams by using photos taken by the customer using their app. Much simpler to send them the photos to them so they can provide the measurements for you. It always comes down to cost though. At this point XM8 mobile may be the slightly cheaper option in the long run. Thanks for the comment

    how about blown off shingle by heavy wind , all sealen was broken and shingle easily lift up . is that qualify for insurance coverage how looks like a shingle gamage that Insurance would pay for it ?

    • @pattersonadjustertraining
      @pattersonadjustertraining 7 месяцев назад

      Really good question! Shingles/Tabs that are creased, partly or completely blown off would be covered. On a fairly frequent basis there are some groups of shingles that have fused together. At first glance there doesn’t appear to be any damage but if you pull them up (they normally lift up as a group) you can see the shingles have been torn from/through the nails. The wind blew, probably with a strong gust, blew them up but due to their weight didn’t have the energy needed to tear them back or off. During most wind storms the wind speeds do not remain constant there are short gusts which do a lot of the damage. If the only issue with a shingle or tab is they are not sealed down, then normally this is not considered accidental direct physical loss and not covered under the most policies. The tabs not sealed issue is quite often a point of contention between adjuster and contractor. This can vary depending on the policy, carrier or State. Thanks for the comment.

If that person is an Xactimate Certified Trainer (XCT) that would be the best. I was a staff adjuster (cat field) 25 yrs. I would hate for you to spend money unnecessarily so if you recently got hired as a staff person they will train you on XM8 and their way of doing things. • @pattersonadjustertraining
      @pattersonadjustertraining 8 месяцев назад

      Great question! This is probably one of the most difficult skills for new adjusters to learn, especially if your weak on home construction. You can find training on scoping, damage and how to use Xactimate and/or Symbility but it's difficult to find training on how the damage needs to be repaired. One of the things I'm doing with Adjuster House is showing people how to identify damage, how to think through the repair process and what would be involved in the repairs. Learning this skill will cut down on unnecessary supplements. Another huge benefit is it will make you faster. Being able to walk into a room with damage and knowing what needs to be done within the first couple of minutes is a big time saver. Plus knowing what needs to be repaired and how it will be repaired will give you confidence when talking to customers and contractors. The best way to learn this is getting a job helping a contractor, the second best way is by coming to Adjuster House. :) . If you're interested I'm having a informational webinar with Q & A next week. This will give you a lot more information. I will be posting the webinar link with the video coming out in two days. . (I don't think I ever posted the video where I completed the estimate from the interior scoping video. I'll work on this)

    Homeowner here... It appears to me that the term "wear, tear and deterioration" precludes the fact that there can be legitimate hail damage that occurs even though there is "wear, tear, and deterioration". It has become a catch-all for insurance to deny claims after hail storms.

      Good point. All roofs wear out. Technically as soon as the shingles are installed they start the “wear, tear and deterioration” (WTD) process. However if there is legitimate hail damage to the roof/shingles the insurance company should be paying for that damage. (Based on most standard Homeowners policies) I have been on roofs that were WAY past their service life but had legitimate hail which is covered and I was able to total the roof. I don’t know all the specifics but If your roof has legitimate hail damage (regardless of the condition) and the insurance company denied based on WTD, then you need a different insurance company or a different adjuster, possibly both! Thanks for the comment!

      Andy , and myself, are both Independent Adjusters. We are NOT incentivized to deny claims. Nothing makes us happier to get on a roof and see a ton of hail. It's easier and faster to inspect a roof that has legitimate hail damage, than it does to try and find hail damage.

      @@kenhansen9443 I know you independent guys actually do y’all’s job. Just educate someone instead of talking down on them. You never know who trained them.

      @KamerenB thanks for mentioning that. I think adjusters (as a whole) need to do a better job of giving respect and being courteous to contractors. You all have a tough job, Lord knows I wouldn’t want to do it!😁

      @@pattersonadjustertraining I agree totally . When I’m at an adjuster meeting I never aim to argue. All I want to do is help the adjuster help the homeowner.

    I had a Roofer show up to a hail inspection of mine, and one of the first things he said was, "I'm new and have no idea what hail looks like", he then preceeded to mark all the areas of hail on the roof. Btw there was no hail on that roof lol.

    It never ends, I’ve said what you said in the beginning that they know it’s not hail, and they say yes it is. I wonder if they geniunely don’t know

      I never does🤦‍♂️ The one thing I hear all the time when I don’t provide a cause for every little blemish on the roof is “well if you can’t tell me what it is then it has to be hail”….uh there is such a thing as cause and effect, hail leaves a unique “footprint”.

      It's intentional to keep their sales reps in the dark about real hail damage. Some adjusters pay for stuff like that, so there's no incentive for them to train them, or get them HAAG certified. But oh well, keeps us busy...
