Interview With An Adopted Child | 8 Years After Adoption From Foster Care
8 years after adoption from foster care Robert helps me in this interview with an adopted child.
The cool thing about an interview with an adopted child who is older is that he can share his perspective on the foster care system and his trauma as someone who has worked through his past for years.
We are excited to share this video with foster parents, potential foster parents and parents who are considering making their story what that includes their own adopted child.
Our hope is that videos like this one help you become trauma informed in your parenting practices so that foster kids and adopted kids can find healing in your home.

Hospitalized 1 | Losing My Foster Kids?
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
I was hospitalized and should be dead. There was a real chance of me losing my foster kids. I had a large tumor, but also had a rare disorder. Most adults with this disorder die. It usually isn't diagnosed until too late. What would happen to my foster kids? Would my adopted child be OK? Would being hospitalized mean that I would be losing my foster kids? These were the things on my mind. As a ...
What I Say to Judges | Adoption and Foster Care
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.3 года назад
What I say to judges when attending adoption and foster care court is overall pretty simple, and, in the long run, effective. I say that what I say to judges for adoption or foster care court is effective because, it seems to elevate me in the eyes of the judge, it allows me to still work as part of the foster kid's team, and it is a way that I can check myself to see that my heart is still in ...

Respite Care for a 4-Year-Old this weekend has been a blast We also got to help our church deliver hope cases for foster kids. I had the experience of what it would be like to provide care for a younger foster child as a single dad. Kids from hard places are of...

We are taking a respite this weekend so had an awesome garage sale haul! Also, as is frequently the case this single dad and his son laugh (and tell bad puns). A 4-year-old respite is staying with us for the weekend! We haven't had a foster kid that young for around 5 years. Because of that, when we drove by 3 houses that seemed to have a lot of toys... We turned around and picked some up. As a...

I often wonder if our foster care journey would have somehow been...

Family High Points | Foster Care Attachment

Tonight we share our family high points and Robert talks about foster care attachment. Like many kids from hard places, Robert had felt abandoned many times in his young life. So while in foster care, a lot of "normal" circumstances were traumatic for him. His foster care attachment story was a long story. He would often have challenging behaviors when I left for work or when I returned from wo...

We've had kids come into ou...

We got a new foster care placement! Also, I'll share 2 foster placement tips that I've found to be very important over the years. The new foster care placement is technically just respite care. That said, we enjo...

Is He Your Dad? | Questions Foster Kids Face
I have a placement who has been rejected by two kinship placements, one being a failed adoption. There is a chance of an extended family member on the other side of the family will adopt but I’m afraid there are going to be issues with integration. I am not surprised it didn’t work out for the first two. So many times foster parents are judged but you are right, unless they have the kid in their home first, they will have no idea.
Please help me I live in Thailand Bangkok with family i am Christan family i need sponsor haggery me not have job please help me
I'll bet that boy is insanely ticklish.
When it comes addictions, in many cases it's a choice, not all, but many. The addiction tends to be more important than the kids. They don't get a second chance.
Really, you like video games? Who knew? Duh! Your a kid, what kid doesn't like video games, these days. It's to be expected. If anything, you would be my go-to person to help with figuring out issues with my phone. My "geek squad".
He likely felt like he was being passed around like a football, with a bomb inside.
His son is cute ❤
I'm aware different between children and dogs. Made a promise to my adoptive 4 legged, i won't give up on you if you don't give up on me! Trust and love works wonders!
If you felt broken, how did your new son feel, being much more immature.
Thank you so much for this I’m 28 and a college student but once I graduate and am in a better place and have a steady career I plan to adopt but I’m single
Hi im asking for my gay son who is wanting adot so desperately its all he talks about. Any advise I can give him ? PLEASE
Im so moved by your story.....thank you for the love you share God Bless. From Cape Town South Africa
I’ve been thinking about becoming a parent for a few years now but I don’t think I have the necessary resources to be able to. I own a one bed apartment, and things are only getting more expensive. My job is flexible so I think i would have the time to be able to care for the little one. It saddens me that the only barrier I have to become a father is money and space. I have so much love to give ❤
Just checking in on you guys. Hope all is well. Miss your videos.
Then it seems either things have changed or its different then when I was a foster kid. My foster parents go paid at least 1,200 every other week just for me. Double that when they had another one. they were awful people and got paid a crap ton. On top of that they had three kids of their own. They abused me not physically, or sexually but mentally and emotionally. They did that to others too and guess what if not for my last foster care worker id have been there til i was 18. I don't think its that hard on foster parents. Some may be but it really doesn't take much for someone to become one. Some may care and it may be difficult or other wise but look at it from the side of the foster kid. If you don't think you can handle it one way or another don't do it. Because the foster parent has a choice the foster kid doesn't.
Hey i am 18 year old boy and i need a best father in the world 🌍 can you help me 😢
To Robert: I noticed on some of your earlier videos that you seem to have very intense and physical emotions like a Child of the Jinn. It is truly amazing that your dad was able to deal with you when you were younger! What would have likely helped you the most would have been a weak telepathic link to a parent or grandparent that would have let you be reassured that you were safe and loved. I understand how that without that, it took you years to finally trust. On a more positive note, you also likely have much faster reaction times that most people and could become an outstanding fighter pilot.
A single parent home is better than a NO PARENT HOME! 👍
I hired a foster kid to work for me when he was 16. What a great kid. He continued to stop in and visit after he moved on. Thanks for the video.
It would appear that something happened. Robert, please give us an update.
Just like having your own child...expensive. I hope no one Isa foster for the money.
We are in the midst of adopting a teen boy cross culturally international adoption. Hearing this young man's testimony about how he felt, how adoptive dad felt, and how it currently feels gave me an idea of what it might be like for our child. I think the greatest lesson I have learned in training is that adoption means trauma. These youth go through so much and have to be so brave. Thanks for sharing your story from child and parent viewpoints. God bless you both.
We just lost a girl after 2 years. It's tough. The toughest thing is the family lives in our same town and don't communicate with us at all.
Thank you for your kind and balanced information and sharing about your vocation to care for children. Beautiful work 💙🙏🏻🕊️
The social security number should always be changed if a child is adopted.
Hope you guys are ok.
Time to go to court
We all miss you guys soo sooooo much! Hope you're all doing well, and have all the blessings in the world.
Hello, I am a 45 years old single male, living in Toronto. Still this year (2024) I am moving to Alberta to work as registered nurse. I was married before, but I do not intent to do it anymore. Unfortunately I did not have kids, but I really want to be a parent. As I do not want a wife, I am considering to adopt a child after I buy my house, and stabilize myself in Alberta. I really want a child to take care, pass on my values, help to grow in way to become a great person. I am at the beginning of my research, so I have a lot of questions and concerns. But my plan is something for 1.5 - 2 years from now. I hope to find all the answers until that. Thank you for your video!
What happened to these two
This was so helpful thank you so much for making this video!
I’m 26 and am gay so I will probably adopt In the far future but do the agencies look at your job and salary when placing kids with potential parents
Yes, atleast $4,000 per month
Super cute family
Following up on the medical stuff you shared, you have not posted in a while, are you doing ok, Nick?
Pls post a new video. We all miss you posting new videos.
Thinking of you all. Sending healing thoughts your way.
I lost weight when I first had my 2 kids come in, but it wasn’t long and I was putting the weight on because of stress lol. Not sure if you have one but a video about self care for us the care givers is an important idea! I think we are always so focused on everyone outside we don’t look inside to make sure we are okay too.
Pls post more videos
very honest and transparent! we had a target range of 3-8 but then had an infant placed with us. we spend every cent of that subsidy for a loooong time. Which is fine but yeah…we weren’t profiting financially as people think we do
Thinking abt adopting later in life whether i'm getting married or not, but i'm kinda scared abt not having a big enough support group since i'm introverted as hell and don't know how to get into communities 🥲
Well done! Glad to hear that he has had a positive turnaround on his birthday celebrations. Hope he has many more to share with you and othersa too!😊
I grew up in a very dysfunctional and horrible household. Raised by a dissociated mother and a "touchy" step father. I'm probably only alive now because of the nanny my mom hired. Who was 1,000 times a better mother figure than her. So I understand why some children need to be with a single father or mother. I remember talking to my biological father about taking full custody of me but he was too busy being a dr. And my step father was a well yeah... but I didn't have the strength to leave my siblings when the cps came knocking and I lied. And umm they convinced me to keep my mouth shut...
I’m glad there are people like you. I couldn’t do it! I would get attached to them and wouldn’t want them to leave! The money issue doesn’t surprise me. The government in this country is not child friendly in any way.
I’m curious as to how things worked for you. I’m coming from the state as a caseworker & going into the foster parent side.
Our foster son had to live elsewhere after 5,5 years and I still miss him every day. It hurts so much, because I love him so much. There's stil contact, although minimal. We're just hoping he'll stay in our life forever.
