Hi Philadelphia Legacy Jazz Project! Thank you for this view into the life and musical development of pianist/composer Tom Lawton. Yes, he's truly a gifted individual. He demonstrates exceptionalism in artistic expression and performance technique. He has a deep understanding of the jazz repertoire. His original compositions, including his 2004 double CD "Retrospective/Debut" should be on everyone's shelf. Just fyi and if I'm not incorrect, in the interview Tom mentions early rock bands Wolfbane Drake and Berlin Airlift. Although you didn't mention it above in your RUclips summary, he also mentions "Blind Faith" (ie. a 1969 English rock super-group). I believe that was just a slip and he meant "Blind Alley". Bret

I played in a cover band on the road when I was 18 in 1963 -67. Played tenor sax. And I played the tenor solo on the Bill´s record 6 nights a week and a Saturday matinee. The guitar player played that great guitar solo! We played for dancing, we are a white band playing all over the states in white clubs. The owners at more than one of these places told us to not play Black music because they did not want Black people in the venues. But we still played Honky Tonk. It had crossed over I guess.

I remember listening to you play a great set on the piano Mr Price at the piano bar in 1979 and 1980. I was a waitress bartender during the time you were playing solo jazz piano as well as some duos with Betty Duff. You made working at the commissary a / piano bar a great time with your Jazz piano and mellow melodies. The crew at the time was Bob, Karen, Curtis, Marian Jody Maria and myself...Carole. What a fantastic memory!

I really enjoyed listening to this wonderful story about how and when Pete bought Ortlieb's. I always wondered why I didn't spend more time there. And, now I know why! I had moved to Atlantic City as my main income source, PIR, had dried up and I had to find a quick place to make a living with a family. I am sad that I hadn't been more involved there with all of the wonderful Philly cats who played there every night.
