    How do you stop aggressive play? I have 2 dogs. A boxer who’s 3yrs old and has brain damage. She was bit on her head as a puppy by my daughter’s dog who over corrected. Actually shushed her skull. My other dog is a lab 3 month old puppy. The breeder removed mom when the litter was 5 weeks old because mom was nipping at the pups and he thought she was tired of them. I feel she was teaching them proper play. Now because my puppy wasn’t taught, she plays very rough. She charges my boxer, bites her neck or legs and holds the bite and growls. My boxer doesn’t know how to correct her. I’ve continuously physically stopped the play over and over but she goes right back to it immediately. Now I keep them apart most of the day because nothing has worked in 6 weeks. She’s smart but seems stubborn. I’m afraid she’s going to do this to my daughters or sons dogs and they are going to hurt her. I don’t want another accident. How do you teach the calm down?

    This is EXACTLY what my girls do. Turn into "crazy ladies". Two yellow labs, 6 & 8 months old. I'm with you, love the chasing around. It's the side checking and especially the neck biting I don't like. So it's going to take two people to correct them when they both get going I assume?

    This is helpful! I have a 1 year old female husky/catahoula mix and a 8 month old male heeler. I have had the heeler since he was a baby and just got the husky mix about 2 months ago so they're still relatively new to each other. They can do everything that your dogs in the video can do but once they are released from they go back to intensely playing (leg grabbing/neck grabbing) - they are obsessed with each other. I work from home, it's all day, every day. I have to essentially "send them to their kennels" where they will stay with the doors open to get anything done around the house. I'd love to be able for them to just be around each other or be able to gentle play without CONSTANTLY having to separate them for causing a ruckus when they play. Any suggestions?

      Then you beat the shit outta them.....haha no just grab them by the collar and say “calm down” with force and wait till they chill then you can let them go and see if they listen, if they continue to go 0-100 again then repeat, grab collar say “calm down” wait till they relax then release them, then repeat, with dogs it’s all about repetition, so it’s gonna take a few cycles till Fido figures out what you want from him

  • @abitofbay2973
    @abitofbay2973 4 года назад

    Well you hav to remember that that’s just their play style. That’s how they play. Some chase. Some grab. Some mouth. Some tackle. It’s all different. I understand it you find that play annoying but if your saying it’s aggressive that’s not right but yeah I get it it gets very annoying when thy tackle and bite each other. But I don’t think these two are trying to dominant over each other. They’re both tackling. Their both biting. It’s equal play not aggressive.

    I'd like to see you correct Abbott too. He seemed to instigate as much as Donovan did. But this is definitely something that we need to work on in our home. Some members let it go saying "oh they're just playing", but others like myself think it's too rough and not acceptable at all. I don't want a dog coming over that's not used to rough play and take it too far out of self defense.

    My current three dogs are a spayed female, 16 or 17 years old, whom I've had for 15 years, a neutered male, 6 years old, whom I've had for 4 years, and a 2-year old unspayed female I adopted in July 2019. It used to be that the male would always want to roughhouse with the old female, who didn't appreciate it much. I had to yell at him and make him sit to calm him down, but it was a pain in the ass. When I brought the young female home, she was the one who instigated the roughhousing with the male dog. At least they both leave the old dog alone, but I'm still annoyed at this "game" when they get so wrapped up in it and don't respond to my calls. I plan to get the female spayed, and wonder if maybe she will stop wanting to roughhouse so much then. Anyone know if spaying would calm her down?

    At 1:12 when the black dog was asked to sit why did it’s head twitch like it was having a seizure?? Then it kind of fell into a down... that was not a natural movement. What correction did you use? Because it seemed to be WAY to harsh for that dog. It was scary to watch.. and I use e collars and prongs regularly. I’m no stranger to methods like this. Also a few times the dogs got up before you gave the release ok. Idk maybe upload a more clear video of your training method. This was a little hard to follow and inconsistent.

    My dog and his best buddy used to go at it way rougher than these dogs do, and they sounded like they were trying to kill each other. Never any problems, they loved it for almost 12 years until the other dog got sick. My dog was 30 pounds lighter than the other one (55 vs 85). Some people actually thought they were really fighting.

      I have this exact problem. My two terriers loved playing with their two best buds which sounded ferocious but it was just play. NOW my problem is that we moved and when I take them to dogs parks they want to engage in this vocal/ferocious sounding play and most dog owners are not receptive to it. They also like to tag team/gang up on a single dog in the hopes that they will be chased. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    I don't think it's fair, at all, to say with bully breeds (your favorite?) it's bound to tip over to a fight.

    • @andrewwarner
      @andrewwarner 5 лет назад

      If I said "bound to" that is a little strong, but the point is still true. Bullies, if left unchecked, tend to let things escalate more than softer breeds. Every dog is different of course, but as a breed they don't instinctively shy away from conflict like softer breeds might. They are not the only breed that is true for, though!
