Hi Paul, My Dad ended up in the Welsh Guards, I say eventually as he was born in 1916 and joined the Army in 1932 as a boy Bandsman in the 3rd Caribineers, He was so keen on horses that when he became a regular and served in the regimental Cavalry in India. With the onset of war, the horses were dumped for early tanks. (Lee tanks). Dad was in Burma for the war and never spoke of it apart from 3 memorable events that did not involve the death of his mates. Dad was such an experienced Tank man he was sent behind enemy lines to plot the passage of heavy machinery across France, After the war the amalgamation took place with the Greys. The regimental HQ is now at Edinburgh Castle. Dad came out of the Army in about 1958 and met my Mum in the barracks at Kirkcudbright, Scotland. settled in Kelvedon. He was a clever man and at the time broke the record in the Army as the youngest to pass his Sgt's exam. He was offered commissions on several occasions but preferred the sergeant's mess. He ended up as R.Q.M.S, . I used to take him up the Hyde park to march before all of the Royals. Dad passed away in 2006 and as the eldest I have inherited his medals.

On most occasions Officers don’t get a refs break these days. In Devon and Cornwall there are few officers with more than four years service. The Police Service in England is broken and it’s unlikely that it is possible for it to be fixed.
