    I was actually lucky enough to witness all this live (through my scope) as the drama unfolded. What a magic moment when they were reunited eventually! I went home and told the story...never dreaming someone had captured the entire thing. Brilliantly filmed too!

    The larger Herring Gulls show why Storm Petrels generally stay far offshore and when breeding only come ashore at night as large gulls frequently prey on them.

    Almost positive i saw a pair of these by a quiet river mouth just outside Clevedon, recently. They gave a soft churr sound in flight and stayed quite still, only a few meters from where i stood. Cheers

    Is Grey Phalarope the same bird as Red Phalarope, or is it Red-necked Phalarope?

      Yes, Grey and Red are the same - Grey is the name usually used in the UK and Europe but in North America they're usually called Red Phalarope. Confusing!
