This is one of the Sustrans long distance cycle routes I’ve not done. Getting old now, I’d better be quick🚴 Thank you for the video🙏
A friend and myself did the Hadrians Wall route last week and te weather was just perfect.
Enjoyed watching that will look into doing that in August
We all now know what beta max videos you used to watch.
What a smashing, uplifting video. And helpful, too. Thank you.
Well done both of you .... looks like a wonderful riding adventure. Cheers from Australia
enjoyed that
God job friends 👍👍🇮🇩
Is that a Norfolk accent by any chance? I spent my childhood near the south downs and lived in Norfolk all my adult life. Would like to do this route.
Living in Suffolk now, but yes it is 👍🏻
good job!
Well done and great video. Straight to the point.....my kind of commentary. Hoping to do this in one day sometime in June/July.
Great video! Never had this kind of bike before, looking to buy my first gravel bike. What is the size of the bike and that is your height? Is it comfortable? Does the bike makes a loud clicking noise when pedaling? Is the wide handlebar comfortable? Cheers
Hi Garik, sorry for delay, I think I had 51cm frame I’m 5-7. I have sold the bike now and replaced with a canyon grail which is lighter
@@BikepackingExplorer thank you for reply! I'm currently looking at the Boardman ADV 8.9 or Cannondale Topstone 1. Do u like canyon?
what a informative video!! thank you subscribed!!
Been meaning to ride this route for a while. Great video.
PUSSY!
What route wre you on? Not Tim & chris's?

Congratulations, guys! You're better men than I am for your perseverance and your story telling.
Haha like it last man standing got to get through. Chapeau.
Great video really enjoyed this have subbed ur channel and am looking forward to watching more of ur videos in on the northddowns way but have rode and walked the South Downs way Thanks for sharing Hope u dnt mind checking my channel out Ps I must ask did u manage to find bike storage at the end ok as last time I rode I was lucky enough to be picked up by van so didn’t need to find storage for bike
we found a hotel that allowed us to store the bikes in their basement for the night, we then made our way back, riding some on road and getting the train for other bits
Nice video. Im thinking of doing the trip on my surly long hail trucker 42" tyres. 26 front 36 rear gearing. Im wondering if the hills are mostly smooth and rugged, any advice appreciated
Some of the hills are long and smooth, some are long and rugged. Sometimes on the downhill you'll wish you had suspension so you could let it go a bit, but mostly you'll be happy with that set up. Have fun.
Had my Glencoe over 2yrs now.
Like your straight to the point descriptions dude... No messing, straight to the good stuff.... Inspiring..... Cheers 🍺
What was the tip for the restrap tape fix?!
Once I put the dry sack into the bar bag I then undid the clips that close the dry bag and put them around my drop bars and re-joined them, so the dry bag was supported by the drop bars
@@BikepackingExplorer Nice one, got a set coming soon...just need to plan the next adventure!
@@grthlg We're all restless for an adventure this year...
Great review, would you recommend for basic off road? Thanks
Bikepacking Explorer I now have the Gelncoe and love it. Can I ask did yours make a constant noise when not peddling like a clicking sound? Thanks
@@stevefo1524 From the rear hub, yeh that's a feature that some riders like :)
Bikepacking Explorer thanks, so do you know if it can be fixed?
@@stevefo1524 Only with a new rear wheel or a new hub built into the existing wheel, as far as I know
Bikepacking Explorer Thank you, keep up the good work,
Be careful about taking so called 'routes' from m bike magazines. they've got them from a map and never actually done them. I got caught out like this. I ended carrying the bike 50% of the time.....
Hi there. Great Vlog on the South downs route. I am and and another are looking to do this route over two days in the opposite direction. I took note of your comments thst it's fine on a gravel bike. That is reassuring for me as I was worried I'd struggle with the fatigue of constant off roading. Thanks again.
Hi there. It's Léo from the international cycle-touring festival in Paris (more than 3,000 visits over the weekend and a 520-seat professional cinema). I'm always looking for top-quality films to show. Would you be interested? My address: films.cci@gmail.com. Hear from you soon, I hope.
Great adventure
sleeping next to a river and a waterfall, overlooked by thr world.......but theyre all asleep..so it doesnt matter......... BRILLIANT quote !!
Some of those flints look sharp. No problem with punctures?
One puncture on the whole trip I was running WTB Resolute and the casing is quite thin
Hi nice video :)
Great video. Not sure if want to do it off road
Enjoyed that, I know the area, the last day must have been tough starting in Ditchling.
Hell of an effort lads, cracking viewing throughout.......ATB...Stu...
Cheers Stu 👍🏻
Great video and really helpful. I’ve been tossing up between and MTB and a gravel bike. My tyres aren’t as large as yours, so I might change them. I was wondering what hearing you ran?
petehab1 hi Pete if I was going to do it again I’d probably do it on MTB! With no luggage. Gearing is 44 up front with 11/42 at the rear. Have fun 👍🏻
That track took me out on my mountain bike! Sea Palling? The detour is 2 miles!!
Great stuff. I'm planning to do the SDW as part of my tour over this Easter Weekend from Bath to Eastbourne. Your video is so helpful for my planning. Keep up the good work. :)
Had my Glencoe a yr now, great all yr all round bike, commute on mine on shifts in Ireland, Tubus rack fitted with Whyte Glencoe mudguards, Brooks B17 saddle, Bike is still overgeared in my opinion, Chris Froome & Co leg-power needed to drive the top gears (10&11) Love the disc brakes - subtle yet very powerful! Bend in bottom of seat-tube just does not look right??? Very wide handlebars dead comfy. 650b wheels great idea in the 'real world' especially with those 47mm tyres fitted, took tyre off rim once to top-up on sealant, evidence of a 'puncture' but no flat tyre! Bought a Topeak Joe-Blow booster pump to 'seal' tyres against the rims, removed valve core to make job easier but would not seat @ all, tried 14 times YES 14 TIMES, gave up in the end and took wheels to bike shop for help, Scared to change tyres now!!!
Joe Condron great review, get to put mine together tomorrow. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Can you go up curbs on it? Thanks
Looked fun. Character building.
Ell done guys, reminds me of my southern upland way bike pack trip, it's on my channel very tough same terain really enjoyed atb Derek
great video, really enjoyed it ! can i ask, at 17 minutes into the vid by the north sea, what make/model are your sunglasses? cheers
Sorry Matt I don't recall and they have long since been broken and binned :(
what an adventure great video
What's it like in the wet? Have you tried yet? Just wondered how much water is going to be thrown into my overboots lol! I had a test ride and absolutely loved it. Best looking one of these in its class IMO! Do they have a specific mudguard?
fatboydon the only time I’ve been out in the rain it was torrential and nothing would have kept the water off. I read somewhere that Whyte make mudguards specifically for the Glencoe
Bikepacking Explorer thanks - I’ve got one on order now with the Whyte Mudguards. Standby for review!
Great video! Tested one of these in the shop today, I must say it looks gorgeous in person! The breaks are lush. I was originally looking for a Nukeproof Digger 2018 Comp. Now I'm torn between the two! 😩
Brilliant,I know it’s early days yet but how you getting on with it?its a bit hot up in nwales today to be riding my push horse,🚴🏻🏴👍
Only ridden on the road so far and loving it, will be case of lower tyre pressures for trails which might make it slower on the road, so need to figure out the best compromise
Bikepacking Explorer I’m looking for a winter rider and been looking at the glencoe due to the tyres width, looks and stability as I will be mostly using for road riding in the off season. Would you recommend??? Didn’t see whether it was any good for touring either, any good?
James M i’m loving it and the fat tyres run as fast as the skinny tyres on my road bike. The only consideration is the weight 10.8kg but you don’t notice it unless you’re lifting it onto a bike rack
James M Am touring on it this weekend with bar bag and saddle pack all good
Bikepacking Explorer do a touring video😉 Cheers, looks like my next Winter/Tourer bike for back end of this year and next years touring👍🏻
Never even heard of this bike before, did you buy one ?🚴🏻🏴👍
Chris williams picked it up on Thursday 👍🏻.
What an adventure and admirable feat of endurance! I'd love to try something like that myself. I reckon I could just about manage it. Enjoyed the vid.
I do the c2c in about five weeks, my sister and I for her charity, both of us are well over fifty. Workington to Newcastle, road, hostels, and a backup car, neither of us have done owt like this before, and I'm not sure if I'm ready. but I know which way I would rather do it, your way. well done chaps.
I'm sure you'll be fine, bon voyage!
Well thank you for your confidence chap, god knows I need some, I am on a mountain bike I built myself, and my sister is on a brand new "Whyte Caledonian" and is married to a 26-year "army physical training corps" veteran, I am an ex 10-year veteran, army chef, where's your money going, an ex-slop jockey or the wife of a PTI, besides, she would not go wild camping on this venture, I tried it, Cheers anyway, mate. I will think of you whilst gasping for air on the side of the road, Regards, BOb
First of all i wanna know which 2 fockers give you a thumbs down? Whats not to like? Now iv'e done a bike packing in my time. But never anything so, ermmm, i'm torn between insane or adventurous, pick a word you prefer? 2~3 minutes into the film, i'm thinking, if they can evade mechanical failure i'll be amazed. you just cant keep slamming that amount of weight onto bike wheels on rough terrain. That bought back so many memories for me, especially comparing the millage you had done to the tarmac equivalent. One time i spent pretty much a day going from Leeds to Huddersfield, off road of course, following rivers/canals. Only to see a sign saying Leeds 10 miles. Theres that other well known saying. 'you can always serve as an example not to follow'. You also done some excellent narrating, with a moderate sprinkling of sarcasm. Good job with the ride and the filming, i really enjoyed that. i'm disappointed to see you've only posted the one film. Summers coming, and i feel its time for another. iv'e subscribed to your channel just in case you ever post more. Gary.
Great vid, beautiful scenery. Inspiring. Thanks.
