Stop the Carrot Timber Sale - Protect our Legacy Forests!
The Carrot Timber Sale would clearcut an irreplaceable grove of mature legacy forest in Capitol State Forest near Olympia. This timber sale is also nearby to the Sherman Valley Campground, and would degrade the experience of visiting this popular region. Legacy forests such as that threatened by the Carrot Timber sale provide immense benefits to our communities, wildlife, and climate. Once cut they cannot be replaced, and very few such forests remain.
Tell WADNR and your elected representatives to halt the Carrot timber sale and protect all of our legacy forests!

Sea Lions basking, swimming, and snorting saltwater in the calm waters of the Salish Sea before diving into the murky depths in search of tasty fish. I filmed this with the DJI Mavic Air 3S using the drone's telephoto lens, which allowed me to maintain a safe distance that prevented me from disturbing these marine mammals. #dji #sealions #drone
Stop the Cake Walk Timber Sale - Save Sherman Valley Legacy Forest!

The beautiful trees of the Sherman Valley Legacy Forest stand sentinel over the popular Lost Valley trail, a path frequented by hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders alike, yet this remnant of our quickly vanishing natural heritage is in imminent danger of being clearcut as part of the Cake Walk Timber Sale. Sadly, the Board of Natural Resources chose to approve this and many other sale...

That would make a great opening scene for a Christmas movie.
Yikes! There’s so little old growth left. For carbon capture, biodiversity, and protection of the planet and the humans that depend on it, this is a travesty. Thanks for your post.
Beautiful forest
Beautiful!
Good review. Mamiya produced quite some great lenses. Never tried this one, but results look excellent!
amazing
raw?
D-logm is kind of like raw.
So what’s your final rating of the drone, on a scale from 1 - 10?
I ended up giving it a 2/10 because it's fun in a so-bad-it's-good sort of way.
Ohhh okay I see, thank you for the warning! I’m surprised you responded since it’s been so long since posting the video, so thanks for that as well! If you have the time and energy as well, I would love to know your thoughts on the best Amazon drones between $150 - $250 if you have any suggestions. Trying to get a bday gift for my dad. Otherwise, have a good day!
@smolchild1343 No problem, I'm happy to help! In that price range my pick would definitely be the DJI Neo. It's $200, fits in a large pocket, has OK image quality, and is super easy to fly with zero experience and is one of the most durable little drones out there. I have a bunch of videos about it on my channel.
A few years I go I had Mavic 2 pro ,great drone with great photo quality , I have sold it over year ago and now I want a DJI drone with a bit better video / photo quality . Does DJI Air 3S has a chance to bit video and photo quality of my old Mavic 2 pro ?
Good question! Same size sensor, but much more modern tech. I haven't done a side-by-side test, but that should mean better image quality from the Air 3S vs the Mavic 2 Pro. Alternatively, you could go for the Mavic 3 Classic which has an M4/3 sensor.
✌....
wow!
Stunning! The forest scenes were spectacular.
Superbe la nature est belle 👏👍✌️

NOTE: This video was filmed with the telephoto lens of the Air 3S, which allowed me to maintain a safe distance that prevented the drone from disturbing the sea lions. Always ensure when flying drones that you are not disturbing wildlife!
Anyone else here preparing to learn the difference between having a "care package" dropped on me from a few hundred feet or if I'm gonna hear that high pitched whir and then nothing at all... Just me...

As a long time commercial fisherman here on the Oregon coast, and as well as Alaska, this looks a lot worse than it actually was, windy/choppy, no big waves/swell tho...
The super telephoto lens certainly amplified the drama of the scene too.
bellissimo video, grazie ❤
Grazie!
Really enjoyed this. This is the sort of thing I'm hoping to create and I really like the variety of shots and angles etc. Can I ask what you mount the 5 on please for the shots of the dogs and general landscape shots over water etc? I guess some form of selfie stick? Thanks
As I recall, I did use a selfie stick for those shots. It wasn't a complicated setup.
does it maintain the stabilization? Could you clarity Zoom? I would like to know why it is impossible to zoom intermediates like 1,5X 1,3X or 1,7X like a real zoom. those are the mysteries of engineers because I kwon it is possible to do the way I said before so why don't allow us zooming in a much more free way
It's been awhile since I actually used Clarity Zoom, but as I recall it does maintain stabilization. I'm afraid I have no idea why there are no intermediate zoom settings.
This appears to be a second growth forest on fairly gentle slopes. it is not rare like an old growth forest. It might be good to learn a few things about forest ecology.
This is a legacy forest, which is a forest that naturally regenerated after it was first logged (typically in the late 1800s or early-mid 1900s). They are in fact almost as rare now as old growth in Western Washington, and display many of the characteristics of old growth forest.

I never claimed that this was an old growth forest. It is a legacy forest, which is a forest that naturally regenerated after it was first logged (typically in the late 1800s or early-mid 1900s).
@@Illuminationsfromtheattic It is simply a second growth stand. There is nothing unique here.
@@BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists A forest that naturally regenerated after the original old growth forest was logged is known as a legacy forest, and very little such legacy forest remains. Many have been identified to contain rare plant communities, and they are bastions of biodiversity. That biodiversity is lost when they are converted into timber plantations.
@@Illuminationsfromtheattic This type of forest is very common.
@@BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists No, it is not. Very little such forest remains in the Pacific Northwest. The vast majority of forests outside of federally managed land have been converted into even-age low-diversity short-rotation timber plantations.

Can the just manage the lag act forest and pull out what’s been downed from the last year instead? I think it used to be called forest management, they would also do controlled burns in winter to get rid of some combustibles
Protect our parks
Stop the green new deal huh?
One is an intact wildlife habitat… one is an artificial monoculture… devoid of symbiotic life forms !! Our North American forests are equally important to carbon sequestration,& wildlife habitat as the Amazon rainforest !! Earth first … life on this planet is in jeopardy from rampant capitalism/ consumerism !! ☀️🌎🌙✨🌲🦋🌻
Don’t cry when it all burns
Legacy forests are resilient to fire. Timber plantations are extremely vulnerable to fire. Legacy forests moderate factors which contribute to catastrophic fire. Timber plantations and logging exacerbate the conditions which contribute to catastrophic fire.
Shut your mouth cunt
BS
The legacy forests I've shown in the video is about to be cut, and be replanted as a even-age low-diversity short-rotation plantation. This is an inarguable fact.
Does the left have another new toy: production forests. Then you go sit on plastic chairs if you don't want wood 🤯
They're all on the payroll. Follow the money. The same as dirty cops. They need to be prosecuted.
Exactly. WADNR is deeply corrupt.
never destroy legacy for fake
When you cant see the Forrest for the Trees. WILDLIFE, NATURE Old Growth is Gods creation, not Man's
More land for.pot grow aint enough water, but they don't care
I disagree with your plan if the forest is maintained properly you have less devastating fires and for every tree that is cut down should be replaced with the same tree seedling just my opinion 🤷😇✝️🙏❤️🇺🇲💯👍
Older, natural, biodiverse forests are more resilient to fire than managed forests, and logging only increases fire danger in such forests. Also, what WADNR is doing doesn't even resemble responsible forestry - they're clearcutting legacy forests and replacing them with low-diversity even-age short-rotation plantations that are extremely vulnerable to fire and disease.
A healthy forest has approximately 50 trees per acre. A well managed forest is a healthy forest. Managed your forest before it burns up.
Forest health is not measured by the number of trees per acre. Forests are extraordinarily complex ecosystems of which the trees themselves are but one small part. Furthermore, fire is natural part of forests, and healthy, older forests are both resilient to fire and help to reduce fire danger.
@@Illuminationsfromtheattic we have to agree to disagree.
They’re both forests to me you can find parts of a legacy forest that look like that too wouldnt be surprised if it’s the same forest
A timber plantation is not a forest, and the differences between a legacy forest and a plantation art starkly obvious and easy to spot.
Good Washington provides some of our best Lumber
Washington's forest practices are outdated and harmful even to the timber industry. Even-age low-diversity short-rotation plantation forests produce lower quality lumber in reduced quantity than if they were instead to use selective-harvest, high-diversity, long-rotation forestry techniques.
Why
Sounds like a good plan!... Homes for energy one! Yay!
I vote no, because it's a natural habitat.
Wait til Donald hears about that stupid sh*t
NO! Greed always wins over Mother Nature, who is the perfect landscaper!
Oh hell no!
Save the forest
A forest is like a garden it needs thinned and weeding or it turns into a super fire and cannot be controlled. I totally support logging
A forest is not a garden, it is a highly evolved complex ecosystem which thrives best in the absence of human interference. "thinning and weeding" of an old, biodiverse forest actually exacerbates fire danger, and timber plantations are both extremely vulnerable to fire and exacerbate the conditions which contribute most significantly to fire danger.
Fire is a natural part of the forest. If you're not going to let fire happen, then you need to thin the forests.
WADNR isn't thinning legacy forests, they are clearcutting them and replacing them with even-age, low-diversity, short-rotation plantations which are extremely vulnerable to fire. Also, these legacy forests would not benefit from thinning, as they are typically extremely healthy and are not at all overcrowded.
Yep
@@Illuminationsfromtheattici wish i owned land that has a forest in it. Honestly id turn it into a really big tiny homes village that hosts protection for forests. Keeping the trees n only elimanting weeds
@Illuminationsfromtheattic yes, natural forests are super healthy. No bark Beatles or sudden oak death around here... fire is what cleanses a forest and keeps diseases and pests from spreading. Either prescribe burns or let nature do what it knows how to do.
