It’s a bit sentimental and at times melodramatic but there are clever little subplots that keep things intriguing and the sardonic, even black humour is fantastic. It is certainly of my favourites. I have always seen Casablanca as a product of Hollywood professionalism. The production was chaos, but there was also a lot of confidence in the process. They were all good filmmakers, and everything would get in place in the end. In this case, it was a blessing and maybe chaos was a part of the success of Casablanca. Never underestimate chaos in creative work.
