Installing Duralast Belts & Hoses on a 2013 F150 5.0 Liter
This is why these types of videos are worthless! Half say Yes and half say No ! So what’s the point of watching it ?
Never just hand tighten your oil filter! There are some weak ass hands out there; probably like this lazy prick. Get the torque specs, oil filter socket and a torque wrench and do it right! Unless, you want it to sling out all your oil!
I have a 2004 GMC envoy with 300,000 miles..I just changed the VVT.. I think I have wore out rings and probably other issues..I think the exhaust smoking is from the oil department. I can't find an oil additive that might help seal the rings because of the VVT system..
I changed plugs in very cold weather, but the motor was hot. One plug was very hard to get out, like it was glued in. I'm assuming the carbon on the plugs can eventually chewed into the head threads & allowed more carbon to enter the treads, because the plugs threads were all black up to the seal. If I ever pull the head the plug holes are getting TIME-SERTs. OBTW - The old plugs were DENSO & went bad from driving on the Interstate way below freezing. 20 years ago my Bosch Platinum +4 shattered in very cold weather. I'm checking to see if my DENSOs were counterfeit plugs made in China.
soooo...2 years and no comments??
I use a round gage start small until it's barely goes in and use a small pair of pliers to adjust them .
OAP will leave you on the side of the road, when the belt slips off from the extra stress on the tensioner bouncing
Thanks for the info! The senior mechanics at the garage where I'm training usually discard these.
My outboard is idling rough. I put a lot of dialectric grease on the plugs at the first change. I feel like my plugs might have cooked the grease. There was a bit of oily residue around 3 of the 8 plugs.
Here's what I've learned as an engineer: there's a reason why manufacturers differ on instructions on their vehicles, they have done extensive testing and almost go on the safe side which is a design safe factor. If the manufacturer says don't put any then don't. If the manufacturer says you should put some then put accordingly. Any third party aftermarket manufacturer who tells you that you don't need ever to put anti seize because you are using their own product or so claiming a universal basis, you run the risk of destroying your specific vehicle by obeying them blindly. Unless there's an engineering change issued for such practice from the specific manufacturer involved, don't change it.
Without a doubt use anti seize, ive been using it for 30 some years, all it did was made everything 100% better !!!!! Why would you even question it ? Keep it up from the end of the plug about an 1/8 of an inch & you only need a very little bit, & that will be good.
In 40 years of wrenching I’ver never used anti seize on spark plugs. No reason for it.
Short answer prior to watching vid is, YES. Copper based being the choice. Just to foment discourse, I also have always used it on wheel nuts bolts. 50 years & yet to have a problem as a result.
"Conductivity" on a spark plug that passes 20,000 plus volts is a complete non-issue. The electromotive force will drive through the poorest of grounds.
After all that what is the toque setting on the oil drain plug.
Omg the things this industry comes up with . Something we have done for 80 years now is the oil changes are a problem and because we don't get enough oil out of the engine .
Reduce the torque slightly if using anti seize since it’s acting as a lubricant for the threads. Easy and common sense.
I blow out the cab’ filter once every three months using a high pressure air line and replace it every 2 years. Works a treat.
Well, NO shit. Someone else in my industry who gets the facts of oil in an engine. Some funny notions I've heard throughout 43 years of professional service.
Fascinating Topic! I let my oil drip overnight when I do an oil change. I get about an extra 1/2 of dirty oil out that way.
Used anti seize and what torque value. I went to they hit, then gave them a little tug or tap, On to the next one..
I liked the part where you installed the filter
This was almost worthless video....
How is it holding up?
I'm doubtful... these claims are opposed to my experiences!.
What claims?
Got a 1995 corvette that can't see ECM or ECBM. Fuel injectors will not spray when noid light says its getting pulse. It's a mess.
Best answer? Refer to the owner's manual. Lacking that instruction, install clean dry plugs in a clean bore. Torque to specs.
That’s insane
Absolut garbage...i buy tensioner for mercedes 220 cdi and can't hold the tension
Im not a mechanic. I work on my own cars though and im still somewhat young. I had a 1999 rusty dodge and always used anti seize and now that i have a newer car and learning how to do work on that i can tell you that since i dont use a torque wrench having lube on a new spark plug that isnt chrome is ok. Chrome and lube is a bad thing to do if you do it the way I do things
Very interesting and informative! Thanks
I think for winter weather you should use the simple " paper " filter . Rather than the charcoal one as I think this one restricts air more . While the paper filter would allow air to more freely pass through to defrost windshield much quicker .
Thanks for this video. I know nothing about cars or motorcycles but have to start somewhere and demystifying it with videos like this really helps!
Bought MSD blasters and Plugs for my 5.7 Hemi and changed injectors at 150K. What a difference.
All AS are not the same there are copper, nickle, molly, alum. based AS all 4 have a different galvanic effect depending on what the cylinder. head is, alum. or iron ,and if the plug is cadnium plated or bare steel.I just apply a dab of clean grease to alum. heads and copperAS to iron heads.
So is the shim not needed after all?
Do not listen to this guy.
Since there is a debate means that at least 1/2 of the viewers will NOT agree with you.
Very nice educational video. Tqsm for sharing this informations. As a woman and a layman, I totally understood the differences and to correctly install the correct alternator pulley as per car OEMs installed. But, sometimes dealing with men and local mechanic who don't really care, they think we woman demand too much and a hustle to them. Cause in their knowledge there's no difference and can use any types of alternator pulley and most resort tu the fix types one for easy work done.
Sounds like something I've heard before, especially about the filter tightness. However, have you ever "hand-tightened" the oil filter on a Chevy Astro van? That thing is in such a confined corner that one's hand can't get a proper grip on it. No wonder the previous guy (yes, it would have to have been a guy : ) overtightened the thing and made it nearly impossible to remove. All right, back to my torque wrench.
Well that explains my rough idle after changing them 😂
If you install backwards, will it blow black dust into car?
Yes
I am glad that filter was labeled OIL. Eliminating any confusion.
I almost didn't get #2 out of a 2017 Ford escape. The aluminum was coroding on to the spark plug threads just a couple traces.
I've seen nothing but problems from those things.
So use a torque wrench and reduce the factory spec by 30%… like you’re supposed to.
This happened to me I turned my car on one day and heard an awful noise it wasn’t a squeaking sound but more like rubbing sound. I turned the car off immediately not to cause more damage. Took a look under the hood all the pulleys were on the belt minus the crank pulley I saw the belt jumped a couple of teeth on the crank then I looked closer with a flashlight and saw the crank was moving away from the engine block there was a gap. Got the car towed to a shop and they fixed it. They told me the bolt was worn from age and they put a new bolt in and a new belt there was no oil leaking either I thought that was so strange because these bolts are they not put on very tight.
I’d rather be able to get the old plug out and save the threads instead of battling it and then have crusty threads or need to chase threads and risk metal entering the cylinder.
Can you use it if your ac/ heat doesn’t work?
