I love walking in the British countryside and have decided to write about my walks. I hope you enjoy my videos, which should give you a small taste of my adventures. So far I have written books about the Wainwright Coast to Coast walk, The Cleveland Way, and my 54 Degree Walk, where I wandered across our country at 54 Degrees latitude, just to see what was there really.
Sewerby : A Yorkshire Coast Gem
History Walks had a little Autumnal walk up and down the cliffs outside Sewerby, just near to the lovely little Yorkshire seaside town of Bridlington. If you haven't been here, you've missed a treat. Beautiful clear seas, a fantastic stately home, and penguins.

Viking Way Day 3

Normanby to Ludford The good news is the rain has stopped. The bad news is that everything is frozen. On perhaps the coldest day of the year, I continue my merry way along the Viking Way, passing through Walesby and the amazing Rambler's church, then on towards Tealby with its links to Tennyson, but not before a close encounter of the furry kind. Last stop - Ludford.

Barnetby to Normanby Carrying on from where we left off, the weather has taken a turn for the worse. Leaving Barnetby behind, we plough on through the flooded fields of rural England, heading towards the heart of Lincolnshire, leaving Rob a little surprise in his backpack. Slipping and sliding through several quaint little villages, we don't meet James Bond, but we do discover a secret sword as...

Stage 1 of the Viking Way, following the path from the start at Barton upon Humber to Barnetby on the Lincolnshire Wolds. We dive straight into the history and learn about the origin of the name of the Humber, and find out about a few things that will come later on the walk.
History Walks Forbidden Tunnels of East Yorkshire

Join me on a sunny amble to some abandoned and forbidden railway tunnels in East Yorkshire. Heading down Comber Dale, there's more to see than just tunnels, including something you would never expect to see in Yorkshire. Throw in c couple of history stories along the way, including a bit of the history of the Hull and Barnsley Railway, there's a special surprise at the end.

Castles, towns and churches abound, showing you just what you've got in store if you're planning to do the walk yourself, or simply reminiscing about a walk you've already done. Last but certainly not least is Prestatyn, the end of the walk. Or maybe the beginning if you're doing it the wrong ...

Look what we found in Burdale Tunnel!
11 28 There is a guy in Blackpool, his RUclips channel is called 'A walk on the wild side' . Gaz Yorkshire.
I used to work in South Cave, and went from Little Weighton to South Cave near High Hunsley where the transmitter is situated, but i could not helpt but notice some brick built round objects in the fields, would they be ventilation shafts from the tunnel?
I’ve just finished your book on the Viking way and I loved it I live near Boston so I know all the places you walked
Last time I was there Stoneledge were busying themselves slowly landfilling the other end of Sugar loaf (the bit between Sugar loaf and Drewton you refer to as a quarry). Drewton had bats another excuse used to deny access. The work that went into these feats of engineering. They ought to be listed and opened up. When they're gone they're gone. They used to be owned by Drewton estates.🤷♂️
Why carry a bag of logs and coal when you can fit them in a sledge, or wheeled sledge, specially if there's a few of you to help, or take turns pulling it 👍
Myxi hit thevrabbits in 1962. On the walk down to Weedlly springs there were mounds over dead rabbits about every 30 metres. The cutting was free of vegitation and one track remained. A magical place.
Did you manage to see how far the collapsed section goes on for ? My guess is it's sealed off at the second shaft then apparently there's a flooded void section before a second collapse further north.
I went in the North portal yesterday and it's twice as long before the collapse
I have travelled the full length of Drewton Tunnel video below. Brilliant video mate

It wasn't reduced to single track due to difficulties in building the tunnel, it was due to the fact the Malton and Driffield Railway company almost went bankrupt building the line and had to reduce costs wherever they could, and going from double to single track was one of the measures taken. Interesting seeing inside the tunnel!
superb video
I have been to this tunnel before the gates were there,I walked through it,its on my videos.
Don't know why this popped up...used to go camping occasionally on this area back in 79/80. Weedly Springs...something like that. Me and my mates were usually a bit pi55ed. Happy days. When was the track abandonded and pulled up?
Enjoyed this video Paul - especially (and obviously) the journey through the tunnel - summer looks like the best time to do it actually. You've got the same knack for making on-screen corrections as I have as well lol. Keep it going pal.
Enough of the crappy music
Just found your channel, the last time I did that walk must be over thirty years ago , the tunnels were open then , in sugarloaf there was an abandoned burnt out car , how on earth it got there is beyond me . I loved the hawthorn growing in the chalky embankment sides , because of the scarcity of soil in the chalk they were like a natural bonsai , and of of course the complete silence apart from the occasional bird song .
Beautiful video, enjoyed that!
Nice video (annoyingly repetitive music, though!)
Hey there! 🚶♂🌄 Thanks for this awesome exploration video of East Yorkshire's forbidden tunnels and the unexpected detour to the vineyard 🍇🍷. The history and stories you shared about these tunnels and the 1947 winter were so fascinating. 😮 It's a shame we couldn't explore Weedby Tunnel, but Sugarloaf Tunnel was quite the adventure! Can't wait for more of your explorations. 👏👍
I remember a time back in 2001 with a list of what was then to be called agenda 21 after everyone caught onto new world order and is now call the great reset and in this document was fact checked as false of course 😏: One world governement One world Cashless society Government owned children Banning fossel fuels One world bank The end of all privately owned property The end of the family unit Mandatory multiple vaccines Microchipped society for purchasing, travel and control Universal basic income Appliances hooked to 5g monitoring system World social credit system Depopulation, control of population growth and population density The end of private transportation ( owning of cars etc) All businesses owned by government and corporation's The restriction of non essential air travel Human beings being settled into settlement zones, citys 1 world military The end of irrigation The end of private farms and grazing livestock The end of single family homes Restricted land use The ban of natural none synthetic drugs, and naturopathic medicines Government owned schools, colleges and university's I keep referring back to it because uts all happening
Might need these tunnels soon enough if things get any worse
Had no clue what a Bothy was until i saw this, brilliant vid mate
Literally 10 minutes from me, I did this about 2 months ago but only managed the one tunnel due to adhering to signs ect
Fabulous green lane with outstanding views thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing, I live in Hull!
Ye. Rudolph the brown nose in Hitler's bumhole Hess.😂 Great bit of knowledge 🎉 Ye Xx
On top of that bridge at the end looks a great place for a stealth camp
Still waiting for the punchline in the Walter De Lacys father falling to his death off the scaffold joke 😂
Nice place I like it. Thanks
Well done, I love to explore world my self, abandoned houses, old tunnels ! I love it all ! Thanks for nice video, currently I live in Doncaster, maybe you know places in Doncaster too, interesting, abandoned ones! We can go together and explore places! Thanks again! I'm enjoyed your video very much. Thanks
Loved the Super Video , Ruined by the Awful "Music?". Please leave that out next time.
Fabulous video. This is one of my local walks but never dared go down onto the railway line or into the tunnels, so thanks for doing it for me 😀
Why wouldn't you dare?
@@paulamess9212 too much of a wuss 😀
@@paulamess9212 I can dare to go there!
Nice one Paul. My twin brother (Paul) and I camped in the field next to it back in 2016 and had a good old time there. It is in great condition. Interesting about R Hess. Mark
I was thinking the same thing when I do the walk re:camping, it looks like a great spot 👍
@@paulamess9212 Yeah West -facing the Skirrid. If its lay fallow you shouldn't see anyone.
I always enjoy a visit here when passing through the Vale. It's a great location - Gerald was right. Some good walking around here to. Thanks. Mark
Sir did you visit the local creamery? They called one night in 1873 seeking the actual deeds to the creamery. An ancient evil transcended on the towns people after that devastating night of unfavourable horrors sir. The same horrors that await us all sir.
great video "HELLLLOOOO" lol
🤣
What a shame, good video ruined by supermarket hits vol 3 music.
Are they going to fill it in ? Might be worth a visit
That was brilliant and funny thank you old owl 🦉 alaya
Old owl you cheeky young thing you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm not a day over 80.
Theres another well hid on the ''swang''/Skelton moor its a bit cobwebby probably because only the local grouse know of it.
Love this walk and Thornton le Dale is such a pretty village. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a beautiful walk - thanks for sharing Paul 👍
Just watched this and enjoyed it. Then i noticed who you are. I have read one or two of your books and really enjoyed them too. Thanks for doing what you do Paul.
Your videos are bringing back happy memories when myself and 3 other ladies did this walk. We did it the other way round to you and one of our overnight stays was in Keld Lodge, which at the time was a youth hostel. We were the oldest there 😀. Thank you for sharing your videos. I’m reading your West Highland Way book at the moment, again a walk which the 4 of us did.
I'm glad it's bringing back the happy memories! When did you do this walk? And I hope you're enjoying the book! I'm currently walking the Yorkshire Coast Path in sections, it's just nice to be out.
We did the Herriot Way in 2011 and the West Highland Way in 2012. We did the WHW because one of our 4 was turning 70 in 2012 and she wanted to do it before it was too late. Our worst day was the walk to the Bridge of Orchy. It was a 20 mile day and torrential rain throughout. We were so pleased we were staying at the hotel that night. It is definitely great to be out walking again but those distances are a tad too far these days. 5 to 10 miles my limit these days. Happy walking and I look forward to reading some more of your exploits.
Just reading your book of this walk and was very surprised when I read of the people that you spoke to in Gunnerside who had retired there from Beverley. I recognised them straight away as golfing friends before they moved to Gunnerside. What a small world. 😀
Beautiful weather for a nice walk! Feels cold! Thanks for sharing!
