Check Out Our First 18 Hole Scramble Together!
Edmonton here. About a 4 handicap. If you're ever out west, hit me up and we should film a round!
Sweet! I was hoping to get down to a 5 handicap this season but I just didn’t get out enough or practice once. Haha Definitely not likely that I’ll ever be out west golfing but you never know!
I guess it’s also a good opportunity to review your swing 😂 keep it up mate
Also get someone else to film as trying to film an play is insanely difficult more so on a championship round cheers paul
It definitely adds another dimension recording, but honestly it’s not bad. I just set the stick in the ground and go, so it really doesn’t take up much time. I do find that I often think about “how will that shot look” after hitting tho, so it’s an extra layer of mental weight that I need to adjust for too. It’s fine tho and I don’t mind. I’m more annoyed that it’s so grainy on the zoom in shots I have to do in the editing process because I can’t zoom in on my camera while playing. Haha
Just keep going every one has a round like this !! Even the pros ! I had a 15 once on a par 5 but still can in with a 91 ! Par 71 coarse just blank out that bad hole carry on Was on a 16 at the time , Well done keeping the camera rolling ❤
Wow that’s an impressive feat for you! I know the premise of forgetting the bad but it’s easier said than done, especially someone who deals with mental health issues normally anyway. Haha I’m working toward less volatility tho!
keep up the good work, im looking to get my first club membership at the end of the month for the last half of the season…..i have played roughly 20 rounds at 100 shots average, do you have any advice of how to slow my swing?
Keep up the grind and thanks for the question! Maybe I’ll do a little video about it, but keep in mind I’m just a self-taught weekend warrior and by no means (obvious from this video) a professional. Haha Two quick tips: 1) I would suggest you try to work on 3/4 swings instead of full. Club up an extra one and then try to limit your backswing so that it feels more like you are hitting a punch shot on the downswing. That might lead to a bit more consistency and forcing you to slow down. 2) Find a short phrase to build tempo into your swing, so that you’re forcing your backswing to be slower. Something “slow and go” could work, where you start the backswing and think “slow” and then be at the top of your swing on the word “and” and then feel like you’re starting the downswing on “go”.
Just curious, is stroke and distant not in play? And why is not handicaps not in play in your club championships. I lost mine due to 1 hole on both days. And medals I know how you feel. It's pressure you put under yourself that makes you f**k up. just have to refocus Well done and hard luck!
They don’t use handicap other than having us lumped into “flights” of similar handicappers and they just have us do a lateral drop and stroke to keep pace of play going. Good thing or else I might have shot a 150 with how poorly I played after hole 3! 😅 Man that’s tough about your club champ, but good showing! The hidden pressure is certainly weird but honestly I put more on myself than trying to “beat” others. I just didn’t stick to and execute my plan after that fourth hole bogey and then let myself derail. Lots of mental work needed over the next few months.
@@ParawayGolf that explains it ha. You will get there. How I did it was to train myself like I would with someone else. After a set back or a blow up hole I would say to myself "come on now, 1over for the next two holes" surprisingly it would come off and I would be bang on. When that was achieved I would say, "+2 for the next 4 holes or I would like a par on the next". It refocuses me. After that 10 in the second round I was 9 over for the next 10 holes, but a treble on the last didn't help either. For me that was good scoring considering the back nine at my home course is the hardest. But it was all about trying to reset and not think about it. As at the start of the year if I was out of it early on I would just not care. Lately my scores have been much more consistent this summer over it. I shot my handicap on both days considering a few blow up holes!
I love the videos!! I played right handed for 30+ years and got as low as an 11 HC. Decided to switch to left at the beginning of the season and am currently about a 20 HC. From Dallas.
Haha that’s a wild switch! Glad it’s starting to function for you and at least you can watch me hack my way around a course from the same side as you now 😅
My first time seeing your channel, I’ve been watching YouTub golf for about a year now. I’ve always had a great love for the game and in my 20’s early 30’s I was close to scratch. After raising kids and work taking up my free time I am now back on the trail to find my game. I forgot how much work that entails. Good luck and keep swinging the clubs!!
Thanks, Chad! I’ve definitely had parenting taking over the amounts of rounds I would normally play during most summers and feel rusty, but that’s the process of us weekenders! It’s time to regroup my mind and adjust to a different perspective. Let’s grind it out (golfing 😅) together 🤙
waddaman
Did the 🐐 of RUclips golfers just comment on my channel?? 👀 That’s all the inspiration I need to push forward for another year toward mental improvement and reduced stress on the course. Time to saddle up 🫡
As a fellow leafy it’s good to watch your content I’m 66 yo from New Zealand playing off a 12 trying to hit single figures this year just upgraded to a set of new Taylormade P790’s iron’s really nice clubs !! Keep up the good work!!
New Zealand?? I’m jealous that you get to play such beautiful courses. Thanks for watching this Canadian content and best of luck with your new irons! 🙂
man it’s not often you find a golf YTer that you relate to!
Nice to meet you! Sorry to hear that you’re riding the struggle bus with me right now. Haha better days are definitely ahead. The pain of the Club Championship is my new driving force for the next year. 🫡
I definitely have intrusive thoughts of slowing everyone down and being inconvenient😅 Great Video and awesome to see a fellow lefty
Haha thanks. I’ve got new intrusive thoughts now seeing subscribers drop after posting this one. 👀🫠
Very relatable round of golf. GL in your club championship.. from Kitchener, ON.. 12HCP
Much appreciated. It has been played and let’s just say there were some great moments and some very embarrassing ones. It’s going to be a more difficult edit than this one. Haha 😅
Yea! A lefty
Let’s gooooo!!
Good job! I liked the discussion on what you were trying to do before each shot
Thanks! I didn’t do it enough I realized but it’s kind of awkward playing with buddies and also focusing on talking to myself 😂
really enjoy the videos and course management. Fun to see a RUclipsr play some local tracks to me.. keep up the great work!
Thanks, I appreciate that! For us weekend warriors, course management is definitely more important than chasing a few extra yards on our shots.
@@ParawayGolf I couldn’t agree more. I don’t have the longest drive but try and keep out of trouble and doing my scoring 100 yards and in
@darahqueiser9951 Bingo. I’ve tried to make it even simpler by looking at 130 yards and in as 3-shot territory. Especially par 5s, there becomes little reason to get too aggressive that way.
@@ParawayGolf yup on par5’s I’ll rarely get home in 2 so 6i, 7i, 50 wedge is a great play
@darahqueiser9951 Love it
That was really enjoyable to watch two different golfers work their way around the course using their swings to the best of their abilities. It’s also fun to watch Dan’s crazy back of the club tap-ins
Thanks!
Maybe drop your front foot a half a shoe length, tee ball a touch higher, and play a baby cut into the par 3s. I find they land a bit softer, then with a low draw.
Thank you! I do often try a bit of a draw into the 3s and maybe that is an adjustment to try. I’ve always struggled to fade my higher lofted clubs tho so it might require some range practice first.
holy shit! im a member at flam hills! i would love to play with you sometime
That’s cool! Sure, follow and DM me on IG and we can try to figure out a time. If you want to be filmed during it, get me to 400 subs. Get me to 500 and I’ll pay for your round too! 😉
Loving the content, im also on the road to shooting in the 70s, had 80 twice now lol. Anyways all the best from a fellow canadian - Alex
That’s awesome and you will definitely break 80 soon by the sound of it! Thanks for the kind words - next video might take two weeks to get up but it will be worth the wait (finally!!) 😎🤙
I attest this score. Ca cawww!
@@ParawayGolf woohoo! 🎉 Congrats dude, I could learn alot from your course management LOL. Also starting with a birdie can be harder then you think, too much pressure
@dccaveman123 Would be great if some of these tips help you get there! That’s the whole goal of my channel, really. Make good food more accessible for people who just have average swings. I’d say next time you go out, don’t just use driver off every tee on 4s and 5s. Consider how much room you have and what angles you want for your 2nd shot, then use the club that helps you get there. I’ve been using a lot more 5-wood off the tee
I really enjoy the celebration dances!
Haha Thanks. If you have any suggestions for better celebrations, I’m all ears! I do like the birdie one 🐥 but the rest just awkwardly happen. 😅
Really good video, I like the commentary a ton, subscribed
Awesome, thank you! I’m trying to get one uploaded per week but sometimes it takes me two weeks. Thanks for your support. 🙂
Where is this rain you talk about 🙃
On and in the ground from the downpour the night before. That’s why I say at the very beginning that we had to start on the back 9 because the front was too wet. And I mention the wet fringe on Dan’s first putt. And I show a repeated closeup of the huge splash on my 2nd shot on Hole 10. 🙃
@@ParawayGolf Edmonton has been straight on fire for 2 weeks. We haven’t been below 30° since July started
Yikes sorry to hear that and hope it settles out for you soon! But if you want to see some rain DURING a golf round, just wait until I get my next one uploaded later this week or early next week. It started on hole 3 and you’ll see lots of annoying water in that one 😅
I was having trouble putting earlier this year then I bought a Spider Tour and I have saved 5-10 shots a round.
Nice! It’s always good to find a putter you’re comfortable with. I got this Cobra last year and have been very happy with it. Last couple of rounds have been much more consistent for me on the greens (videos incoming) and all the pieces are falling into place to start breaking 80 again.
just a heads up a putting from the fringe doesn't count as a putt its just a stroke
I appreciate the feedback, but I like to count it as a putt because I’m using my putter. I know most people don’t like to do that because it helps to lower their putting stats, but I prefer to track how often I actually putt.
I can shoot 79-90 and it's almost always due to putting. 😅
Haha I feel that! Putting and a dropped ball or two are the things that have held me back from breaking 80 so far this season. It’s coming tho!
I like the tip of miss higher on putts. Makes sense. Thanks for that tip !
👍
I’ll offer Derek a job if he’s available. Pays like shit but I’ll throw in a free lunch
😂
No harm in letting the course and shots speak for themselves, especially under adverse conditions. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 🤙
7/10 on commentary. Work to do.
You’ll hit 7/10 when you commentate in full sentences. 😅
Great video on talking through your shots and what you was given 👍
Thanks! I don’t have the greatest swing or game, but I know my approach to the game gives me the best chance at success most rounds and hoping that I can help a few people think about their own game by sharing. 🤙
hey man great video! ill be in the area next week and wouldnt mind a partner if you wanted to get out for a round
Thanks I appreciate it! I’ve wanted to get back to copetown to play it in better weather to try and break 80. Send me a DM on IG and maybe we can figure out a time 🤙
Knollwood in ancaster?
That’s the one
I applaud you for trying to cash in on the youtube golf . So many channels now. Considering doing the same at the moment. Work doesn't allow me to get out enough, so maybe I'll make it my job
😂 Good luck to you. This is just a fun creative outlet for me and I like being able to look back and critique my rounds. If people can pick up some extra insight, that’s a great bonus! It’s certainly not a money maker tho as work and family still hold the majority of my time. ✌️
cool video showing what most of go through on the course, ha! what color tee box do you play from?
Trying to show it as honestly as possible. This round was from the whites because it’s our weekly league play.
@@ParawayGolf I play from the whites myself. Thanks for sharing
I finally broke 50 in golf. The key was hitting fewer tee shots out of bounds. You know, it's so easy to make a mistake on the tee and then just keep compounding it. By the way, awesome video.
Big time! There are plenty of people who play by the “hit the furthest club and deal with the consequences” mentality, but I’m not one. Golf balls are expensive and I don’t have a gallery tracking my shots 😅
That 12 handicapper has a 25 handicap swing
😅 He certainly has an over-the-top move that he manages to use. That bonus hole at the end is a glimpse of what he’s able to do sometimes
As long as you guys have fun that is what it's about. Just an observation, no way Dan is a 12 handicap. Not judging but he is a 20 plus at best. But hey, send in the scores you want but you are only fooling yourself.
Haha I’m not the gatekeeper of anyone else’s score, so I just do my best to track his accurate score in the vids he’s in. 😇 I can confirm this was a uniquely tough 9 for him because of those lost balls tho. He’s normally closer to mid 80s scores or pushing 80 whenever he’s able to drain long putts. Thanks for watching! 🤙
Love the tip on pre-shot routine, I’ve also found that course management and not trying to play the hero shot every shot but playing the smarter one has saved me a lot of lost golf balls and a good amount of frustration on the course!
nice video, whats the app that pops up on the left at 1:10?
Thanks! This season I’m using The Grint as my hole gps and score tracking. I try to remember to take screenshots of the holes to put in my videos so that people can get an idea what the hole is like since I don’t have drone footage or anything special. Decent app for a free one tho!
Fellow lefty here. Really digging the channel. I find myself also getting cute with the 60°. I've been better lately at reevaluating the lie / situation and electing to the 56°, getting it on the green, 2 putt bogey, move on.
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words! Getting out of the cute shots is key and hopefully my next few videos start to show the improvements of such a mindset. Best of luck with your journey! Lefties unite 🤙
Who was in whose fairway? You see if you hit into their fairway it is customary to wait for them and or get approval from them to play your shot. Or you can be a dickhead Covid golfer and think that the whole course revolves around you. I’ve seen a lot of that lately.
😅 Whoaaaa coming in hot, buddy. I’ve been golfing for 20 years so I understand the nuances of golf etiquette. Read the context comment I posted. They only rolled up to their tee as I was preparing to hit my shot. They had SEVERAL warnings that that was my exact line and they said they were okay with me hitting (because they understand golf too) but just made the weird choice to stay seated in their carts during the shot. Chill your ass, k?
@@ParawayGolf I’m just saying Technically in their way. They could have been less assholes but I would have not filmed that shit and got out of the way asap.
@cranium33333 Technically not in their way because they weren’t even at the hole yet when I got to my ball. The recording is also wildly fast and I made sure to still do it because I upload my full rounds and not just post good shots only. Thanks for your concern but I’m not the problem out there. Neither are these guys. Everyone was respectful in the situation.
@@ParawayGolfseems respectfully stupid. Hell no am I just sitting there… unless I’ve been drinking all round 😂
@@2BluntsLater 😂 Right?? Heck, even just leave the carts there and step aside. I wouldn’t even trust people I know to hit over me like that, let alone a stranger!
That's wild.
Context: Missed my tee shot to the right and it ended up in front of tee boxes on another hole. Saw my line back into fairway and as I was setting up, the group arrived at their tee. I informed them I was just about to hit through that way and they might want to back up for a second but they said it was fine and just sat in their carts regardless. I asked if they were sure two more times because we average golfers are prone to thinning shots but they were totally content in the line of fire 😅
What are they sitting in the middle of your fairway?
I forgot to add the context text to the vid. I pulled my tee shot a bit and am in front of the tee box of another hole. As I was checking the line back to my fairway, they pulled up and I let them know I was just about to hit on that line. Despite my warning of the danger zone, they decided to sit there anyway.
Patience is a virtue.
My guess is 4 more pickups
dan is either really tall, or has really short clubs lol. get that man fitted
I don’t think it’s either. Seems more like he’s setting up too far away from the ball to me, but I’m just his friend and not his coach 😅
@@ParawayGolf yeah it does look like he’s extending a ton
Just came across your video and recognized the name of the golf course looked it up that course is in Burlington ontario 30 mins from my house always wanted to play there
Awesome! You should definitely check it out. It’s one of my favourite courses in the GTA because it’s challenging but also forgiving (on most of the holes) of some errant shots….as you can tell from this video 😅
I seem to break 80 easily early every season. Frequently. Then after a month or 2 my shanks come back out of the blue and I feel like quitting golf. Then the cycle repeats. Absolutely hate this game right now
😂 I feel that. I think early in the season there are few expectations and then you play well and start being harder on yourself.
