Edelbrock EFI Tune | 1969 Camaro
Today, we mix old-school big-block power with some fresh Edelbrock tech. We tested, tuned, and got the best performance from this 1969 Camaro using Pro-Flo 4 Fuel Injection with a 555 cubic inch big-block Chevy.
This gorgeous Camaro arrived with just over 400 wHP. We corrected the fueling all the way from 1500 to 6000 rpm, reset the fuel curve, corrected the timing curve and set the fuel pressure for non-fluctuation throughout.
This customer now realizes the full proper potential of his 555 cubic inches and enjoys over 500 Horsepower at the wheels!

    So hang on you made 90 something lb ft of torque with just a tune on a stock naturally aspirated truck???? Or a turbo kit was installed?(i seen what i thought was a turbo joke) Cause that torque graph builds like a forced induction graph?? Also was he running e85 or just 91 or what? Please clarify there isnt anything in the description about mods and ive looked at dozens of live custom tuned hemi graphs and none have ever made that kind of power from just a tune. I have a brand new 2023 ram hemi i wouod love to bring in if this is actually the case.

    Brah-with it being so low on power from factory you should have check obvious shit rather than going right to tune. Tuners going right to the CPU phh

      Yes, wow that's a fantastic idea. We are a tuning shop. The truck had already been to a dealership. Had already been to an independent shop. And had already been compared to the exact same truck, under the exact same circumstances. Unfortunately, this truck was very very very hard on fuel, and at the same time lacked power. So, what do we do? We go too, the tune. Which ended up being the problem. The throttle pedal was not relaying all of the signal to the electronic throttle body. Which meant, that we tuned it, so that it had 100% throttle response, when the driver is asking for throughout a response. This ended up being, the solution. And, was not the first step in the chain of steps. I think you are correct, many times, we jump to electronics when we should be looking at a broken valve spring or a bad plug or a bad coil or a bad injector or a plugged exhaust etc etc etc. However, in this case, if you read the description of the video, the customer let us know that after the tune, this truck now performs normally. Normally. And it now gets the usual terrible fuel mileage that a truck of this style gets. Great comments. Keep them coming

      think of is as income before tax. its less when on dyno because it has to go through the wheels, also you can think of the wheels (and other elements) as tax

    I have basically the same setup but run 37” tires and want to go from a 3:73 gear to a 4:88 because of a lack of torque feel…I sure wish I was in Ontario to have you guys work on my truck. Excellent information though, thanks for posting your work on a engine that nobody talks of tuning.

      @@billzussman5277 One other quick thing, that we would point out. Is that this video was not? I repeat not about a spacer. Nor was it a commercial for a spacer. It happened, that while we were filming, and while while we were testing. And while we were tuning. Tuning. The customer brought this spacer forward. We took it off another engine. And tried it on this engine. In this case on this engine with this compression ratio with this piston with this intake with this carburetor with this cubic inch, it worked extremely well. So, it doesn't matter where it comes from. Whether it's manufactured by a press, a lathe, a mold, or 3D printed. In this case, it works very well on this motor. Again, this is not an endorsement of this product. This is simply fact-based. You cannot deny that this worked on this particular engine very well on this particular day with this particular setup. My questioning would come down to try it on many, many different engines. Many different styles, to see what kind of difference. Yay or nay that you might have, on those engines.

      @@ThomasELeClair while that might, or it might not work. It's something that somebody would need to try. And see whether it actually makes a difference. It definitely would be worth looking at. However, if it were a viable procedure and if it made power. The grates would already be doing it. The great John causey would be doing this already. Matt from mbe. Would already be doing this since his entire business is doing intakes and intake runners and intake ports for some of the biggest most powerful engines in the world. Steve Morris would be doing this. I think on some very small ports. On some very small engines that are naturally aspirated like a little Honda b16. That putting a whole bunch of little dots, at low RPM probably does something.

      @@kylek6575 most of the boost, is temperature based. In order to make sure that the engine lasts and there is no damage. Ford will limit the amount of boost based on temperature.

      Crank horsepower is not the same as wheel horsepower. You’ll always have lower power at the wheels. But a near 200hp drop is bad

    Impressive power gains with some simple tuning. Just goes to show that at the end of the day, if you want to get the most out of a carbureted engine, you need to hop on a chassis dyno. Very cool car, too. Love old school Pontiacs.

    Awesome... I have a 2016 Silverado 5.3 L83 engine and 6l80 trans. I rebuilt the engine and installed a DOD delete kit along with a BTR stage 2 cam. I can't find anyone to tune this thing. It runs but needs to be dialed in. Located in MD and looking for some help.

      The results are going to be fairly similar, on pretty much each setup. Setup. Each setup, depending on the camshaft, depending on the RPM range, depending on the carburetor and the spacer and the intake are going to vary. However. You are taking air that is going to travel from point A to point b. You are forcing that air to travel more distance to get to the same destination. This has the effect of speeding the air, and, while it is the same volume. AirSpeed is everything

    I owned a dyno jet 168 dyno. I tuned so many Harley's. I built a trailer that I could put my Dyno in and go to events. I would offer $200 for biggest HP of the day with a $25 buy in. Would usually get 20-30 bikes a day. The event would usually pay me $1500 for the event. That was a great time of my life. I subscribed to your channel! I like your set ups

    Dimples cause friction not speed up air. What your doing is making the fuel atomize better from air turbulence. I’m a golf pro and build my own engines my dad is a master mechanic and machinist.

      Yes I agree. 1- On this Engine 2- with this customer's intake 3- with this carburetor 4- with this cubic Inch 5- with this cylinder head Etc.. etc... This spacer proved very responsive. L O T S of testing Should be tried/conducted, and combined and reported to see the effects on different combinations. What video did you watch? What was the title of it? Who conducted it.? Thank you for writing in ...in.... Originally this was Just a tuning session, AFTER the customer added the spacer, and we documented it, and saw the results, we published it.

      We did, at one point set the ignition timing at 34. We gained 2 horsepower. So we put it back to 32. It was very happy at 32.

    I'm splitting hairs but I'm curious if it's the dimples or simply the different spacer geometry.

      That would be an absolutely great test to do and I totally agree. I think that to do just basic testing. We would have to try a whole bunch of different spacers and spacers with dimples and spacers without dimples and, all different heights and all different styles. And actually do a spacer shootout. However. It would only be valid for that particular engine because every other engine might not work. The same might work the same. That's why when this actually actually worked on this motor. At this time I was impressed. And, I did not say all the spacer is the best thing since sliced bread. Because, who knows. I think you're absolutely right you need to do a lot of testing and stay tuned for our upcoming series because we are going to do a lot of testing on a very modern platform.       All Stock ECU, it is very rare that we require, an aftermarket ECU. The OEM ECU, is quite superior, allows a larger Granularity for the person tuning.
