Thank you. I've had to work to break the habit of 4th first, to Thumb first, placement.😮
Thank you. I believe the similarities between instruments are many...thus the approach is much the same. Simple physics is behind my idea of playing the harp in a natural and effortless way.
Hi! I hadn't seen this before. Brava! Very well explained. And, what you talk about at the end seems to be true for all instruments -- relaxation and the whole half body use of arms and back which gives the weight and makes stamina possible.
thats my teacher! <3
Really interesting both harp and orchestra parts. Wonderfully performed.
after our lesson, I record my playing, watch it, pause it, then compare my arms maximizing and minimizing the youtube video, comparing like "me... heidi... me... heidi... me...." so I know I need to play lower in the harp haha.
I love what you are saying about the opening and closing of the hands. What advice can you give a student who is self thought and learning from a book, but hasn't got a physical teacher; about keeping thumb up and hand techniques?
I took cello lessons with her mother, Polly, and remember little Heidi being in the house and learning about her Israeli competition. She looks so much like her mother!
She meant to say Nijinsky, not Graham.
Why is this so short? Can't we see the whole class? Someday, I hope.
She is incredible!
I was watching your other video in harmonics and noticed that when you’re playing your harmonic you play a second string 1/3 down. You stated if you just go into it…. And show us just the thumb, but stare it sounds better like this and you did it again using 1 and 2 fingers. It doesn’t make sense to me.
Thanks for all these tips - so very helpful!
I’m curious what harp that is.
John Marshall Jr.High and Roosevelt High, Seattle Public Schools, classmate & pianist Paula Grindy-Hogan says hello.
Very well said.
The Ravel was outstanding. Lovely harp playing
Scintillating and Powerful. A Triumph!!!
Utterly amazed and inspired by you!!!
Wonderful performances. Such virtuosity at 14. No sign of performance anxiety. Thank you
It's like riding a herd of wild horses!
Imagine the newness of those sounds when the music was first performed, the constant surprise to the ear. All that was captured perfectly.
Thank you so much for all these playing tips!
You are most welcome and I am delighted if they help!
A truly wonderful, celebratory sort of performance filled with the type of interpretive details and nuances that only a most experienced and highly accomplished musical ensemble can execute and with such unanimity and elan. A joyful experience...
Wow! Thank you. :)
Who was in the audience at the beginning?
What incredible tone projection!
A glorious performance. The best harpist in the world.
why the snaps and crackles? Is this a vinyl recording?
Yes- well predates DVDs.
I can hear the original live with Heidi as my teacher ❤
I am blown away. This is the music of angels
amazing!! wonderful!! Thanks for posting! Hello from Brazil!
Just fantastic, what a wonderful event. Spellbinding!
Claudio Abbado, I wonder what happened to him? In case anyone reading this does not have my musical knowledge, Mr. Abbado had a celebrated international conducting career, especially in opera. One of the greats. He passed in 2014.
That's an incomprehensible display of talent for a 14 year old. I don't see any sheet music within eye view of the harp, leading me to believe every note was performed strictly by memory.
Thank HEAVENS we can watch that amazing and fabulous Parnas playing! Thank you!
wonderful. thank you.
Beautiful. Thank you.
THANK YOU!!!
great series. Thank you! Very useful for the composer.
Brilliant music and performance!
I'm so glad you are making videos! Sharing all that Salzedo legacy - thank you!
Even after 52 1/2 years, you are as good as I remembered! You go girl! -- Lorelei
Pax Americana,the very best,wonderful,
I've never heard the last movement taken so fast!! Bravo!!
This is very possibly Ginastera's finest composition and the greatest harp concerto ever written.
In those years, the Concerto for Harp was one of Ginastera's most-frequently performed works, making him one of the top-earning composers published by Boosey & Hawkes.
+zzindorf Now that every harpist seems to perform it, it is probably number one in their catalog.
It is followed by the cadenza and third movement from Ginastera's Concerto for Harp.
A typically enthralling and exciting performance by Heidi Lehwalder, showing what a masterpiece this music is.
A funny coincidence? To the right are the films The Terror and Terror in the Night.
Lowering the youtube volume halfway helps with the balance of the sound.
Wow! What an exciting piece.
How amazing to finally hear this!
Lucile Lawrence also allowed students to observe each other's lessons, which basically doubled the amount of repertoire you could learn.
