You're a life saver! The manual switches terms too much to know what to do
Good techniques for working with heavy fabric - thank you.
Thank you, John! I did these to teach my son his machine and the use of canvas. Glad they are of help to you, too :)
@@CJDSign You're an attentive mom - happy mother's day!
@@JohnBau Thank you :)
This is a beautiful machine. I acquired one just like it. Do you know what year this was made? These machines were all made by Koyo Sewing Machine Company in Tokyo, Japan, and sold in the US. They branded them as Universal, Dressmaker, Remington, Alden, Modern, etc. Mine is called Simon! All metal inside, so easy to clean up with carburetor cleaner or acetone. Then lube with Triflow Silicone Lube and grease. I took my bobbin winder apart for cleaning and now don't remember how the springs line up inside. I would be so grateful for some closeup photos of how that is assembled. Any chance of that if I send you my email? I strongly urge folks to clean up the old oil and re-lubricate the metal gears and shafts. Makes a big difference.
What size bobbin pls help
I found the silver color metal bobbins with holes all around the flat sides to be the best bobbin for this machine. The plastic bobbins do not work at all and the rounded-edge silver color metal bobbins do not hold into the bobbin case. So, use the Silver Colored Metal Bobbins with Holes all around the flat sides of the Bobbins for this Machine. I hope this helps! CJ
CJ, love ur videos, since I own the same machine as yours and I love it Your videos have helped me out a lot. By any chance do you know where I can buy extra bobbins that work with the dress maker 2000. I purchase some at store but don’t work with bobbin winder.
Hi, Sylvia!, thank you for the compliments. I found that plastic did not work on this bobbin winder. However, I found some online -Amazon- not promoting, but my opinion. You need to look for the metal bobbins. I hope this is helpful. I did find some through WalMart, but our store no longer carries them. These in the video are flat on both rounds and have holes in them all the way around. Look carefully, some I have ordered are wonkie. Meaning, they are fine on one inside but the other side comes in closer, making the winder not work as well. To remedy this, I took a small pair of pliers and slightly bent up the wonkie circle side close by the large round tube that joins the two circles, but be careful, it can pop apart then it is useless. I do hope this helps.
@@CJDSign See my comment above.
is this sewing or machine info… misleading title
Sorry, but this was a teaching video series for my son, who is an outdoorsman. I made the videos to teach him (as I live far away) how to sew on his machine and on canvas. Hope that answers your questions.
Does the needle on your machine always stay to the left? Can you center it? I have a Dressmaker De Luxe and the needle is always on the left. I wish it could be set for center, but there is no lever to do so. I was wondering if this was standard to s9me of these machines.
Yes, mine always stays to the left. I have not seen one that has a moveable position for the needle in this model. I picked up a magnet guide that keeps my material where I need it. It helps bypass the needle position, I hope this helps! I also put a red Sharpie mark where it is 1/4" on my machine in regard to the left needle position. I follow the red line and it is a good thing :) CJ
@@CJDSign Thank you! I picked it up at a thrift store and restored it ( hobby collector) It sews really nice. But the left set of the needle is strange. Not sure why it is designed this way, but it’s pretty considering it weighs a ton! I was able to replace the belt, and bobbin winder tire and make it sew like new again. It’s not my main machine, but I enjoy buying them and fixing them up. Kind regards!

Thank you much . I have forgotten how to thread my machine.
Hi my zigzag lock is not moving I think it’s jammed would you know if I pressed something wrong or do I need to oil it or anything? I’m totally new to this and I tried threading and all, but for some reason mine’s not stitching😣I don’t know why. Can you please help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I would really appreciate it.
Do you have a needle in it? Maybe remove the needle, it may be jamming the hook race below and not allowing it to move. Or If the knob is not completely in the groove spot for the zig zag. Sorry, I have been away. I would have commented sooner I do hope this helps CJ
Thank god for your videos they are helping me make use of my machine. Xx
I am so glad you found some help with them! I made these long ago to teach my adult son. He is the one I am talking to in the videos. Can you hear the "Mom" voice :D
Any advice for if the zig zag isn't working on this machine?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am just finding out today that it’s probably due to a cracked gear for the zigzag function. I have been researching for the last two days and I understand that the gear is hard to find and probably very difficult to replace. It was suggested that I just keep the machine as a straight, stitch or part it out. with that 1.3 amp motor I sure hope I can use that motor somewhere else. I don’t foresee a fix for the machine and I just might keep it as a straight stitch machine.
I'm happy that you are doing that! I have an old Singer that I am only using as a straight stitch machine because of a difficult selection stitch knob. It honestly costs more to fix it than I want to pay. I also use that machine for crafts and book pages in my Junk Journals! You won't regret having it for the ease of use.
Can you make a video on how too slow this machine down. My I uncontrollably fast
Hi, Kathy :) Well, I am a fast sewer, but I do have a trick to slowing it down on delicate fabrics. I know this will sound weird, but take the sewing pedal/gas pedal in your hand and slowly press it. I use this trick when I sew Bridal Items that I want more accuracy and clean stitching. I do hope this helps! CJD.Sign
Ok so I took my machine pedal apart. Ceramic square inside with small flat ceramic Disc that go down inside a hole inside the ceramic square. I took two of those tiny disc out and it worked. I have a Dressmaker SWM-1000 . I am loving it now. Thank you for your comment.
@@kathyfuller4295 clever you! I am glad you were able to find a solution! Enjoy your sewing adventures!!
Could you show a close up of how you thread the tension regulator? I think I'm doing it incorrectly because the little wire isn't moving up and down when I pull on the thread....
HI, I think what needs to be done is to make sure your thread is between the discs on the tension regulator, come down and around, bring the thread to the wire, not behind the wire, as the wire is just for the tension of the thread. I apologize, my son had put this model sewing maching up in his storage, so I can't show you what I mean. The wire is lifted and dropped as the tension on the thread goes into the material being sewn. I did have a machine I worked with a few years ago where the little wire was stuck. I had to take the machine to the repair guy and he found it to be clogged with tiny fragments of thread down where it connects to the Tenion Regulator. You may want to see if that may be the problem. Good Luck! CJ
hi :) when was this machine you are using in this video made?
also, do you know how do I find out what make and model my machine is? I hate a dress maker
I honestly do not have the year that this was made. This was a thrift find that my son asked me to do videos to teach him to sew on it. CJ
@@loversoftruthlovecorrection855 HI, I think you can google this machine and possibly find out which model of the Dress Maker Sewing Machine you have. Sorry, I don't have more information than that. CJ
OH MY GODD THANK YOU SO MUCH You have my exact one this helped so much
I'm really happy these are helping you I will be doing Christmas Crafts soon!
The eye of the needle will be left and right: not front to back. There is a flat part of the top of the needle that goes in towards the shaft of the needle bar. It will slide flat in that spot, then tighten the needle into that position. Be sure that the needle thread hole is left to right. I sure do hope this helps! CJ
Please tell me how to get the machine out of reverse. I have the exact same machine and I'm a newbie. It stuck the first time I used it. I have oiled it according to manual.
Hi, there is a reverse level on the front right, did it possibly get pushed upwards? Other than that, Mary, I really don't know.
I know left to right. You don't say what side of left and what side is right.
I am not sure which video this is referring to, but I think you may be talking about the needle position when threading the machine? If so this is the link to the video that explains that. Let me know if you need more help, Connie! By the way, I was called Connie when I was a kid :)
What Number needle should I use for slinky or slidy fabric. What r the 3 black buttons used for. I bought this identical dressmaker machine from someone and had it for over 25 years and now I am having problems. Thanks
Hi, Angie. I would use an 11-size needle. Also, make sure it is a "Sharps" and not a "Ball" tip. Sharp tips are for silky, thin, delicate fabrics and Ball tips are for stretchy materials. The three holes are for accessories. I use a stitch guide that fits in two of them, It is from a different machine but still works. I hope this helps you! Enjoy! CJD.Sign
Why do you not show putting it in the machine??
My camera could not be held and I put it in the machine at the same time. This is my son's machine. So it is at his home now, Sorry. But listen to what I say, it will help you get it into the machine.

Please tell me about mercedes zigzag TNZ.50 machine
Hi I have this machine too. The foot pedal isn't a foot pedal! It's a knee control missing the control lever (If you want a picture of the complete mechanism I'm more than happy to take a picture.). Any chance I could talk you into taking a picture of the belt? I'm trying to figure out the size to replace it.
Yes, Tiffany, I can get it for you next week. Have you checked the online manual for that information on the belt? It may be there. But I will check. And yes, I'd like a photo of the knee control lever! Sorry, I am out of town at the moment! :D

Thank you for making this video. I work in the oilfield and I have many things to fix and I have this exact machine.
These videos were instructions for my son, who is in the oilfield also. We actually were making tents and floor coverings for camping.
@@CJDSign it seems like a very heavy duty machine. I'm having trouble with pick up from the bobbin thread, only produces a stitch every 3 or 4 cycles.
@@kevosims2012Two things come to mind, tension may be too tight, or the needle not sharp. They go dull fast in this thick stuff. I wear glasses, but I also wear protective goggles. Needles fly and break when I sew :) check the online manual it may answer questions. I usually check those first though and use a scrap piece if you have one or on a spot that you don't care if there are extra stitches. Please let me know if you need anything else :D
@@CJDSign My thread was mismatched. After loading bobbin with same thread all works perfect.
