I understand laughing at Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Seth Rogan, but honestly I thought Charlie Day was a good fit for Luigi when I found out and after I saw the movie I really liked the portrayals of the characters except Mario. Chris Pratt isn’t a bad actor but he was a terrible fit for Mario.

Honestly I think they nailed the cast minus Pratt.

I think the biggest thing about his reveal/inclusion was just the validation fans of the series felt. Kingdom Hearts games are genuinely good and very well-designed, but they're cringey and if you didn't start playing them as an actual child the series is definitely an acquired taste. It gets so much flak from "mature" people who think its nothing more than baby-trash and it being linked up with Disney just added even more fuel to the fire. On top of that the Disney ties convinced every negative nancy on the internet that it was simply IMPOSSIBLE for this to ever happen, they made it their life's mission to reply to hundreds upon thousands of posts every day with that "He's never getting in becuz Disney" BS. Sora being featured alongside the tippy-top of gaming icons in the premiere crossover game was just pure unfiltered validation for fans of the series. It was a explicit statement from two of the largest media companies in the world that "Yes, Kingdom Hearts should indeed be acknowledged, by the world and our wallets, as a classic and successful franchise" it became welcomed into the hall of fame among the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Persona, Fire Emblem and maybe even Sonic or Metroid. I'm not going to be a crazy person and say the series is as big as Mario or Zelda or Pokemon but it has always been successful and beloved and now the world absolutely cannot deny it.
