Fall Chicks arrive
After many attacks on our flock this year, we are in need of some new layers. I am buying them in the fall rather than the spring because by the time they are mature enough, it will be spring and they should be ready to lay. Most spring chicks get mature just in time for cold weather and so it takes until the following spring, in cold/dark climates, before they start to lay their first eggs.

I have wanted to do this for over a year. I have a neighbor up the road that raises horses, but has and issue with having excess manure. I approached them about hauling it away and they were more than happy to give it away. Another example of one neighbor helping another and both benefitting! I used the rake to drag the ground after I first wet it with sprinklers. You can see that rake in actio...

    Thanks for the video. Not sure if you mentioned it in a previous video but how high was the heave or how much elevation difference was there between high and low spots? I have a really bad heave in my basement and I'm hoping to chip off about 1.5-2" of a 90sq ft section. I was planning to cut/score around perimiter of the area with a medusaw that has water and vacuum attachment to minimize dust. Then using an sds rotary hammer or renting a demo hammer to chip away. But ultimately not sure if it's even worth trying to only chip off the top layer? Seeing how much dust you dealt with in your video and how strenuous you said it was I wonder if it might just be easier for me to jack hammer out the full 4" depth of my heaved area and repour to level? Any thoughts or any advice?

    • @boisterouscockfarmstead2217
      @boisterouscockfarmstead2217 Год назад

      This was only dealing with about 1/2" or so. I already had my chipper from another project, so I tried what I had. I also had a cutting saw in the event it was not enough and I would have cut lines through the area and the chipped the slats away if that makes sense. I would recommend using a vacuum of some type to control dust for sure...even if it is just to clear the air. There are many ways to tackle things, and I am by no means an authority. I just try to document what I do around here and hope it helps others to address their projects 👍

    I'm not crazy about your bands, I will use 2x6 boards instead of your 2x4s. I'll then drill holes in them to slide dowels through. One dowel for the front and another for the back legs. The advantage of dowels in place of bands is they have no stretch so the pigs are held tighter with on ability to move.

    From experience ripping things up... I've learned to lay nail boards with the nail points down. No one intentionally steps on a nail, but all it takes is a little stumble or inattention for a long, rusty nail to go into the bottom of your foot and maybe even out the top. Even if you're up to date on your tetanus shots, a nail in your foot can make your life miserable for a week or so until it heals. Cheers
