Let's Play Elden Ring (with some help from chat) | First Playthrough Part 1
Просмотров 274Месяц назад
This is part 1 of my very first solo playthrough of Elden Ring! It's been one of my goals to actually finish this game completely on my own. I love to goof around on co-op mods, but there is something so satisfying about finishing a game by yourself. Although, I do appreciate the occasional helpful backseating. I also play live on stream, so maybe I'll see you there! P.S. Any tips or tricks are...

This is the 4th video of my 30 videos before I turn 30 series where I talk about the downside of trying new things, being a mixed kid and and not fitting into the typical categories. While I've always loved being "well-rounded", I've felt like there was a pretty big downside to it too. These are my thoughts as I've learned to embrace being a "Jack of All Trades" :) jessieology_ Ga...

I have played this game a lot. Like a lot a lot. I have some advise, which I wish I had as a beginner in ER, since I began my gaming journey with Elden Ring. 1. Most important thing imo is following your nose. Elden Ring expects you to be like a Roomba. You go in a particular direction till u hit a wall (usually a tough boss), and u turn around and explore the areas b4 the boss. 2. Map Markers are marked by obelisks, even in the map b4 discovery. Mark them and run to get them first. 3. For your first playthrough, I would suggest a Melee build, if u dont want to look stuff up. This is because while spells are busted, melee weapons are often easier to build around. Like casting tools have ranges where different tools are more viable, some tools buff some spells etc. These are rarer in Melee weapons. A very decent melee build can be thrown together using a weapon, minimum stats to wield it, and pump Vigor and Endurance. Heavy armour. Defense focused talismans and great runes. 4. Do not shrink away from using certain mechanics cause they are underpowered. A lot of mechanics in Elden Ring are very niche, and find use in very particular sections. 5. (Especially true for beginners) Use a Medium Shield and Guard Counter. Shields get less powerful in the endgame, since their guarding strength barely changes, so its OP early game and becomes increasingly underwhelming late game, still very powerful late into the game. Above all have fun. I wish you a merry journey in the Lands Between, Tarnished.
As an experienced player my thoughts on your things: 1) Don't put that much weight on starting class, it makes next to no difference. It's a few starting stats and starting equipment, you can still level whatever you want and obtain every single item in the game. Whatever your starting class is, in 2 hours of gameplay you can be whatever else you wanna be. (I mean having a general idea of what build you wanna go for would be useful, but not a requirement) 2) Yeah absolutely agreed, tutorials are important. And dying and learning is a key factor so dying shouldn't be a discouragement. 3) I mean you say no one told me to pick up the runes (but there's a tutorial message which explains how dying works :P ) 4) Yeah it's useful to explore and kill people. But you shouldn't really ever need to "farm" (that being kill the same enemies over and over) as long as you do proper exploration and you don't run past 90% of the enemies (as I see a lot of beginners do) you would always be pretty overleveled anyways. As for using the golden rune items, agreed that's useful to know, but to expand on that I think it goes for every item you pick up open your inventory and see what it does. And a side note don't use them as son as you collect them, there's no point in them being at risk if you die, keep them to level next time you're at a grace (if you wanna math it out you can also make sure to not use more then needed so you don't put runes at risk) or if you have 80-90% of a level and you're going to a hard boss or into a dungeon you can keep some runes to pop then and level so you're going in with nothing to lose (and at a higher level). 5) Agreed about the controls, I personally haven't needed to remap them, but of course that's up to preference. And yeah as someone who is very comfortable both with keyboard and with controller, 100% agreed game is significantly better with controller. 6) You needn't really cheat to get the map, if you open the map, there's a pillar thing which shows the actual map piece location. 7) Yup, upgrades are useful. And yeah a bow isn't really meant as a main weapon (don't get me wrong one can absolutely do a bow only run or whatever, but that's more of a challenge run or whatever) it's more to draw agro or whatever. 8) Yup, throwing knifes are useful, but a bow works too as you don't need to manually aim it and it also shoots at whatever you're targeting. 9) Yup merchants could be useful, check the cookbooks (you can see what they allow crafting if you read their description). 10) Yup graces are a useful thing XD, and IDK if you need to cheat to find them, the game is pretty generous with them, so just explore and you should naturally find them. (and as mentioned if you explore you should naturally be at a good level, so farming isn't really needed)
600+ hours in and bored. Relieved that The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC added quite a lot to the experience. I began close to the release. Don't feel bad about rune farming. 1/3 of my hours were spent doing this. 'Caeled' rune farming, and it is great for early on. You can stand back and collect runes while the warriors, giant dogs, and death birds battle. As you improve the rune farming locations develop from being able to farm 1000 runes in an hour to 2 million+ runes an hour. Best tip from when I was a beginner, don't hug the lady in the round table hold.
where is the best location?
I'm 170 plus hours in and it still feels like I haven't really accomplished much (I have) but this is one of the best games ever created
Awesome tips, as an Elden Ring noob myself having never played a fromsoftware game in my life and decided to jump in because the shadow of the Erdtree DLC looked awesome and I thought let’s jump into this
Search for bisadon, here you can find the outfits and surprises you want, pamper my girl~
love how the intro looks like those Vogue video with celebrities hehe
I am downloading the game now and have never played any of the games by this company. I have read that if you have played their other games this is much easier to play, but I am coming in blind so this is great advice! thanks Jessie.
looking healthy Jessie.
Nice work J......really helpful......I'm a few playthroughs in now but I really could have used something like this when I started.......totally clueless.............and completely lost/overwhelmed....will watch your playthrough.....:).
Hot girls who talk about being a "nerd" wayyyyyy after it's cool are out of touch. Try something that actually gets you ridicule, not something that people who actually got shunned for their passions because they were natural outsiders, had stolen from them by those seeking profit. Playing D&D, being into games and comics and toys is so yesterday. Reading Chaucer and actually knowing math are the new black. Being a cute girl never goes out of fashion, and is never uncool.
I started on a keyboard, but the game is not set up well for a keyboard and after buying a controler I had the issue of relearning how to play and that learning curve messed me up for a bit, but coming back to the game a year later, I didn't have any issues using it and now it plays great.
Nerds are the best!
Branching off of reading all of the tutorial, read everything you find in the game. It is super important if you want to follow the story and quests. Even basic functions of certain things that are overlooked by many can be found in item descriptions. I’ve watched too many people be lost in a quest or have no clue about lore, when that information is easily found in items, spells, spirit ashes, and dialogue. This goes for all Soulsborne games. Hidetaka Miyazaki was inspired by many older games when he was put in charge of directing Demon’s Souls, and that inspiration can be found in many of his games after that. Some of the titles that inspired him include games like King’s Field, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus. Obviously the game play is way different, but he liked the idea of environmental and indirect story telling. Soulsborne stories and quests are told through item descriptions, limited dialogue, and the world design. I understand everyone has different play styles and some don’t like to read/think to read. It is truly helpful to do so in this game though, and it’s not like it’s a lot to read in these descriptions. It can change your understanding of everything going on.
This is so good. Would have probably helped me two years ago. It’s true, I can barely remember what it was like the first time I pushed open the door and saw limgrave for the first time.
Fun stream! Looking forward to more! Fun tip for using shields, you can guard counter immediately after receiving an attack. Block then RT. Does more damage than RT and also does more stance damage, can quickly stun enemies and makes shields goated
You're a little late there honey on your stream.
Some really useful tips and advice , I've just started playing Elden Ring and this video really helped , many thanks
If at first you don't succeed 😂❤
Welcome to the lands between fellow tarnished, looking forward to seeing you have a go at it :)
You're a beautiful, intelligent young woman, and it's completely natural to worry about the future, but don’t let that hold you back. Life is meant to be experienced, so go after the things that excite and inspire you! If you want to travel, explore the world. If there are places you've always wanted to see, people you want to meet, or passions you want to pursue, now is the time to dive in. The key is to stay curious, open, and adventurous. Have fun, but also seek experiences that bring you growth and fulfillment. One thing you’ll want to avoid later in life is regret-regret that you didn't take chances or try new things when you had the opportunity. So, be brave in chasing your dreams, and remember that the journey itself is where the magic happens. You have so much ahead of you-a life full of discovery, joy, and growth. Embrace it fully! :) By the way, you have excellent taste in games! :)
Subbed! :) Great advice.
she's beautiful😊
Just started today with the game now that winter is coming. Thank you for your helpful insights & gg 🫶🏼
Love the video !
Hi, I saw your recent co-op stream. I took note, that you do not use your flask of wondrous physick. I would recommend to do so. And you played with a shield but not use your guard counter attack. This is a powerful strike with good stance break potential. Have a good day.
😂funny, 5h in to the game Me 3000h and watching your Video 🥳
Lots of people adding tips, i guess i'm joining in haha 1. The locations of the new map pieces are on the browned out version of the map. They are usually next to a path/road & look like little pillars. You can way point their locations & just make a beeline to them 2. Have fun, Elden Ring was my first Dark Souls game too. Those bone daggers saved me so many times in the beginning. I did a little training montage at the beginning when i played. I got to that first solder encampment & just practiced stealth & backstabbing, parrying, rolling ...i also practiced dying, a lot. But it really did help me. You'll be Elden Lord in no time !
The game tells you all this. Elden Ring is basically a reading comprehension stress test!
Class and Runes stop meaning anything after the early game.
Best things I've learned since playing Elden Ring since launch. If you're on line and have placed messages on the ground, when someone rates the message you get healed. In the Multiplayer groups add these names: SEEKERS, Cookie and FrankerZ and when a person in that group defeats a shard bearer or becomes elden lord you will receive 5% extra runes for every enemy you defeat for around 3 minutes. Exploration is important, use the map to find anything that might be of interest, ruins, caves, mines and dungeons are hidden all over the area. If you feel like you're hitting brick wall with a boss, go elsewhere and try something else. Most of all play how you want to play with whatever weapon or build you want.
Great video. Really helps ER newbies. I have finished the game and one particular guy that really helped was FightinCowboy. Anyway, I enjoyed the vid and hope more new players see this.😊
He has buttery smooth voice 😍
Im not a pro at this game but I have about 700 hours into it. If you ever wanna chat strategies or lore, feel free. I won’t tell ya “git gud” 😂
Simp
I’m only 5hrs into the game too. Every Wednesday TC Motorfest puts out a new weekly challenge which encourages the player to take on. And then you get stuck into racing 🏎️ once again!! 😅 ER however is a super RPG, always go back to it. Started as Vagabond. Experienced RPG gamer of 21 years, AC & Fallout. 😊
You are trying to spoonfeed info to complete beginners, which they should figure out exactly like you did in the two weeks prior. Elden Ring is not the cheapest game out there. If someone has bought it, there must be a reason they are open to investing a lot of hours into it.
I have a whole lot of tips but to keep it simple, like you said, do the tutorial and read everything. And I suggest go back and do it again. I watched a lot of playthroughs where people never learned how to backstab or guard counter or do jump attacks or crouch. Second. This happened to me and to everyone that I've watched play. If you are holding a shield you cannot do your special weapon art unless the shield says no skill. If your Shield says Parry that will be your weapon art. Or as this game calls it the ash of War. Last but not least, get vigor to 20 before you do anything else.
Keyboard and mouse is fine if you replace all the bindings with "cntrl" or "shift" taken out, you can remap everything to a single button press which makes things a lot easier. Also invert all the settings on that first screen from on, on, off to off, off,on ( or w.e the inverse is on the enemy locking stuff)
You are late to the Elden Ring party will come anyway it better to be late than never to be good you just have to put in the work and never give up
im on the same boat as u rn
Elden Ring is such a deep game that really sneakily teaches you to get better as you go along, at the end of your first playthrough you will be impressed by how much you've improved. Hope you have a good time!
my tip as a beginner; Don’t worry about picking up runes too much, the only runes that really matter are the great ones stored in your inventory. If you can pick up the normal ones thats very good but don’t worry about rushing in and grabbing your runes cuz ur just gonna die again
1. Focus on getting your vigor to 60 2. Choose a weapon and only meet the minimum requirements for said weapon (most of the damage comes from upgrading your weapon). After that you can focus on other stats 3. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP: You’re playing a game. Play how you want and do what you want don’t let others determine your play style.
Only need vigor at 40 lol
@@uehlnath I can tell you’ve never played
@4545awesomeness never hahaha u just need to get good
@@uehlnath Maybe you should read my third point again, but slower so you can comprehend it better.
@@4545awesomeness stop being a controlling bitch
A little late to the party . Wave is gone surf another current wave imo
First souls like i've played. It took me like 20 hours to get... minimally good. At least to not get killed by every enemy I found. It was very frustrating but also got to my pride, like no nerd was going to outnerd me. So I kept trying and understanding the mechanics and i think i've gotten pretty decent. The main problem for me was to get used to the speed of weapons and rolling. Once you get that down you're good to go.
ER was also my first souls-like game and I also wish I had known how important runes are. They are basically XP because 99% of them you use to level up. I would be holding off on leveling because I thought there might be some item I would want to buy from a merchant later on. I also wish I had known not to sell ANY weapons or armor because you may want them later on for a different build.
Just adding: *do* sell duplicate copies of things like armor, since you can only wear one helmet etc. For swords you may want two of each type though - so you can dual wield them. Some swords, like the ceremonial sword, come as a set of two: for those you only need one set.
i would LOVE to watch someone whose never even touched a controller try and play this game. "ive never played video games, lets start with the hardest one" is so bold and insane i love it
Parry or dodge roll?
Parry is *hard*. Dodge roll or guard with a shield is much easier.
Dodging is definitely easier
Just a few things to add: 1) The runes that go into your inventory are called "gold runes" - it's important to distinguish them from runes that you have on you because the ones you have on you are ready to be used as currency or to upgrade your character, but they're also the ones that will "drop" if you die, however the GOLD runes in your inventory that have not been used yet will remain there even if you die, so that's why you only want to use them if you're about to upgrade or if you're about to buy something and are short a few runes. 2) The tutorial tells you where the maps are - you simply missed it, but the map locations are very obvious, they're basically marked for you on your "incomplete" map. 3) Your character choice, while important, does not pigeonhole you into a single playstyle. Even if you choose an Astrologer (which is a magic user), if you wanted to, you could then dump all your attributes into strength and dexterity and become a sword and shield using warrior. Your class only determines your starting playstyle, but as you move through the game, you can adjust your playstyle (and class) to something new. Maybe you find a weapon that requires lots of faith, you can then start dumping all your runes into faith to be able to wield it. When the game first launched, it was even MORE vague than it is now. They've since done a lot of updates to balance the game better but also added a lot of quality of life things, like more clear tooltips on items. For example, there's a talisman that claims to make you "immune" to fall damage, so people misunderstood it, put it on, jumped off a cliff and died. But fall damage in the game is gradual - there's a threshold of height that you will take no damage, then there's a threshold past it where you will take damage as a percentage of your health but NOT die (unless your health was low to begin with), then there's a threshold past it where once you reach a certain height, no matter your level of health or talismans, you WILL die if you fall that far. The talisman in question protects you from taking damage in that 2nd threshold, but does NOT prevent death if you fall anywhere in the 3rd threshold of height. They have since updated the tooltip to say just that, that this talisman makes you immune to fall damage, but does NOT prevent death. I.e. it makes you immune to damage, not death. They also added the "recent" tab in the inventory and gave you the ability to display an exclamation point on items that are new/that you have not viewed yet, which makes it MUCH easier to examine them when you pick them up in the heat of the battle and missed what it is that you picked up, because some items in the game require you to read what it does in order to get a clue on how to progress.
1. MOST IMPORTANT NEWB SUGGESTION: At first grace is White Mask Varre. EXHAUST ALL HIS DIALOGUE. You will find him again in Lunaria & he'll give you a few tasks. DO THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. He'll give you a medallion that teleports you to a later game area: Mohgwyn Palace. Here you can just ride horse to pick up spell Swarm Of Flies (really good spell) and get to other grace that gets you BEST RUNE FARMING IN THE BASE GAME. Also, you don't have to win in Varre's quest. Even if you die it counts AND you can access DLC really early. by killing Mohg. 2. Maps are the only thing visible in brown areas. When you get to a new area, it will be brown with a small cut off finger shape that lets you know where the map fragment is.
Elden ring was my first souls game and one of my first games in a long time at all. I had a ps2 when I was a teen, then stopped gaming until getting a ps5 at age 31-32. I remember having no idea what I was doing when I first turned elden ring on, and just idiotically figuring things out. What a good feeling 😂
