    I've been an A&P mechanic for 54 years . I retired when I was seventy and I loved every minute of it. I often tell people "I never worked a day in my life, loved every day of it". If you don't like what you are doing look elsewhere.

      The only reason that is bad advice is because for most people (unlike you and I) who aren't fortunate enough to be insulted from the choice between love of job and money like we are, they need to get serious about providing for their family. Aviation is anomalous in that one can make a good living in a kick ass field. However, I never give that advice. I love my family more than planes and I love planes quite a bit. I'd shovel shit for my family. Well, I'd shovel shit for an airplane too but that's not the point. Now I'm confused. I'm glad you loved your time though as I do. Most don't have the luxury to not have to choose. Make that money baby!

      Well Richard in the early years late 50's early 60's we just washed our hands when we could sometimes using Avgas, jet fuel if you had really ground in crud on your hands you pre washed them with mineral base hydraulic then soap and water. Quite frankly I don't remember any radioactive compounds. Maybe you can up date me. The worst thing was synthetic hydraulic fluid called "skydrol" used in modern jets. If you are looking for a career that guarantees you that you won't be around any toxic substances I don't know what to recommend. Even office jobs require some contact with toxic substances. don't mean to offend but I think you are overreacting.

      Avionics는 항공기를 컨트롤할때 사용되는 부품들에 관한건데 이착륙할때 조종사가 조종간으로 항공기를 작동하려할때 수십년전에는 유압을 사용했지만 요즘은 fly by wire라고해서 전기적신호로 작동하죠 그리고 이착륙을 제외하면 auto-flight인데 이때도 engine control을하는 컴퓨터같은 파트가 비행기가 받는 바람의 방향 속도 공기의 밀도 온도등등에 따라 안정적으로 비행하기 위해서 스스로 비행기 조종면을 컨트롤하죠 쉽게말하면 avionics는 소프트웨어, 구조는 하드웨어라고 생각하시면 될것같아요~

      @dinkleburg6039 5 лет назад

      Hi. Avionics is radios, communication between the aircraft and the ground towers. Mechanical are all mechanical parts, the reciprocating or turbine engine. Structures are every other part of the aircraft:wings, body, tail, nose, landing gear, engine cowling, etc.

    Aviation maintenance all the critical job done by technicians/engineers in a nice aircraft - Starting day with Line Maintenance generally refers to minor, unscheduled or scheduled maintenance carried out on Aircraft /Helicopter that includes: 1. Any unscheduled maintenance resulting from unforeseen events. 2. Scheduled checks that contain servicing and/or inspections that do not require specialized training(but surely required tasks training), equipment, or facilities. In service; and that is preparing for its first flight in service 3. Maintenance performed on Helicopter after a period of being out of service (such as Aircraft /Helicopter in storage) 4. Maintenance on en route Aircraft/Helicopter that are stopped before their next flight including Servicing or repair between successive flights. 5. Preparing and readying an aircraft/ Helicopter for flight during a period of service. 6. Maintenance activities being performed to ensure that the aircraft/Helicopter is airworthy and fit for flight. LASTLY -Wishing the safe flight of the aircraft , safe & secured journey for the passengers and crews onboard. onboard

    "....and you want this, it is because there is so much oversight, so much PROFESSIONALISM, so many SKILLED experienced people, from maintainers to.... So...if we aircraft maintenance peeps are so "PROFESSIONAL" and "SKILLED"...why are we still considered "UNSKILLED LABOR" and in many cases, get paid less than some automotive mechanics? With all the responsibility that comes with working on aircraft, you would think that the monetary compensation would be greater.... and it is in some cases, but usually after being in the industry for a long period and with longevity with employer. They pay thing isn't eve really the issue in the long run... It's the fact that Aircraft Mechanics are considered "unskilled labor", yet are required to go to a school that is government, FAA, regulated , learn skills, and have a government issued certificate for Airframe and Powerplant to even touch the dang things... How is, just that alone, "unskilled"? Just doesn't make sense....

      As far as the unskilled labor you will have to consult with the US Department of Labor. They are the ones tha hung that title on Aviation mechanics.

    If your definition of aircraft maintenance is overhaul of removed parts, then this clip is accurate. But if you are wanting to know info about line maintenance of aircraft, this clip is just blowing its own horn, and has nothing to do with the technicians who actually install, test and sign off the parts these guys work on. I am not critical of their work, but the final installation of parts is the job of the Line Maintenance Technician.

      I wanna go back to school for aircraft line maintenance. There is a school here in Illinois called Lewis University but I`m skeptical of the value of the aviation degrees they offer. I wonder how well respected these degrees are out in the world. Or should I just get a degree in Areospace, from a well known University, which is more math that I`m not very good at. I love planes, always did, but I`m 45 now and I wonder if getting a degree with the cost of school nowadays is worth it.
