Mbale is my home town. I grew up in Mbale in the late 70s and early 80s. And indeed to date I have a home in Mbale. Those years it was the was said to be the cleanest town in Uganda and ranked amongst the cleanest towns in East and Central Africa. Not only was it clean but it was well planned. Today it may still be beautiful but it lost that national and regional ranking. It was messed up by politics. People found themselves in the Municipal /City Council to manage the affairs of the Municipality by votes of the common people rather than their understanding of how to run matters. But all is not lost. Some of the things which keep most people in Mbale is the availability of plenty of food at a very good price. Most people who get to Mbale from other parts of the country don't usually leave it.
