My first time snowboarding, two of my coworkers on skis decided they could take me down a black diamond slope by holding me between them. I guess they didn’t consider things like gravity or inertia. Not sure if we had reached half way down by the time my feet had gone out in front, and they suddenly couldn’t hold on. Can you imagine what happens when you’re going high speed with a long board connecting your feet like a long propeller, and then you start tumbling? Let’s just say, the board doesn’t flip at the same speed as your body. If one of the bindings hadn’t ripped out of the board, I’d probably still be trying to untwist my spine. I hit the bottom well ahead of my experienced group in a pinwheeling cloud of snow and appendages and just lay there. I wasn’t even sure if I was dead or not. The evil part of me hopes they had a moment of wondering if they’d killed me. Let the guilt eat at them. Hopefully they just buried my body in a tree well so I could come back and pretend to haunt them. Unfortunately, I’m immortal. I have to be satisfied with pretending we were racing to the bottom and I won. The only casualty was the snowboard, which wasn’t even mine! My left ankle joint…the leg that stayed attached…is quite loose in its structure, but that’s about it.
