2.00-the camera also picking up the underlying image your tracing from. tsk tsk naughty cheater!
1.38 first pass then second pass @2.00 so no underlying drawing as you imagine. I suggest you pay better attention when you watch ! But yes, underdrawing from a lightbox is a much easier way of copying a drawing. However, you won't learn as much that way.
@@plein-aircolourlight9046 my apologies! excellent drawing !
@@martmarriner6793 No worries. Maybe a lightbox would be easier ! Ingres used a camera lucinda afterall... I'm a big beleiver in first pass in light pencil, then second pass more firm & exact.
Left is man, right is woman
That was great Adam and that made you famous ..I watched that programme but only nearer to the sea.. with Bill Nigh
Are you using oils? Doesn’t using darks first cause issues with wet on wet? I’ve tried doing this and thing came out a bit muddy.
the anwser is at 2,40 plus for wet on wet, you gotta have a lite touch. paint well & get through your muddy stage
Awesome.
Thank you teacher.
You are speaking very clearly ,easy understand.Thank you teacher.
Glad u enjoyed.
Do you practice drawing backwards to practice seeing?😮
Do you mean upside down? I don't think I've drawn it backwards...
Yes, looking at thing upside down is meant to help you see better or afresh.
Sorry for irrelevant comment, you sound like Oxford student books' recordings for English Learners :)
Thank you Bospho... I wish my RUclips voice was a natural & as charming as yours is. Very bubbly 🙂
this is great info - learnt a lot in these minutes - thanks!
I just found your channel and I love your teaching style! Very understandable and thorough. And I too think you'd be marvelous narrating audiobooks!
Very good
it doesn't look exactly the same as the reference, how do you feel about it? I'm asking cuz I'm always dissatisfied when my portraits don't look the same as the references, maybe I'm too judgeful and I should give more freedom to myself
Yes agree. Exact likeness are super difficult... even the photgraphic camera cant do this. I wondet if it isnt easier when yu use a camera obscura? However, the aim of this exercise is to develop line & contour. I found my line drawing to have improved after having done this very difficult exercise. Drawing upside down isn't always as useful as Betty Edwards makes it out to be. You understand the 'brain shift' from recognising/naming to obersving/seeing that she mentions (it's a very old art school converstaion, dating from way before her book).
A lot of learning in this, thank you!
Thanks Jan. Glad u liked it. Happy painting!
David Hockney reckons that Ingres used a camera obscura contraption to project super sharp images onto a plane and copy them quickly before his subject moved appreciably. I always thought the images of Ingres were impossibly sharp. Nobody can draw that well freehand.
Hi...wow these painting demos were great!.. important steps for process...also very familiar with Henry hensche since I live on cape cod and have seen many of his works up close at the Provincetown art association...thank you! Just subscribed
Great video. But where is the one on “shadow mapping”? You mentioned you’ll have one more on shadow mapping …
It must be a dark room with a four o'clock shadow... ;-) only joking. I've written the chapter about 'shadow mapping' but not yet made the video. These videos grow out from the 'How to Paint' book I'm writing/have written. Soon ! Glad u like
Thank you! This video is very helpful. 👍🏻
Happy u enjoyed. Go paint!
