Your first time diving starts with a couple simple skills. The first skill is clearing your mask. This fundamental skill is used by all divers and is one of the most useful skills to learn. The skill is simple - you look up, allowing the water to settle in the bottom of your mask, press into the top frame of your mask, and exhale through your nose to purge the water. You didn't explain some important things for the understanding though. The pressure only happens to gases, like air in our lungs, but also air in our ears, our paranasal sinus cavities but also small air bubbles in our teeth. The rest of our body is water and water won't be compressed. Pressure only works on gases in flexible containments, like our body. So if you had a metal casing, the metal casing would have to bear up against the pressure. But our bodies aren't metal casings.

    You might want to clarify what you mean by density. Density of water does not increase with depth. It remains constant (62.4lb/ft^3).

    Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die". BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again". And love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, or struggling or doubtful, simply be honest and tell Him that. He is not intimidated by ANY sin or struggle you are facing. ANY. He hears and will answer. If we pray for Him to come in, regardless of the condition, then He will. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. If you have any questions let me know X

    Am fully aware of the rule of thumb, just wondering how it works for freedivers tho? I understand that holding one breath for minutes probably won’t subject freedivers to decom or bent but in terms of atmospheric pressure its inevitable right?World record free divers went like over 200m holding their breaths... Thats over 20 atm compare to recreational scuba divers at 40m! The lungs are gonna shrink to less than 5% volume!

      Yes that's exactly what happens. In fact, some blood plasma even enters the lungs at such depths, then gets reabsorbed on the ascent.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 4 года назад

      Scuba cylinders are not completely non-compressible. Aluminum changes shape more-so than steel, but both are compressed slightly by depth. (And both expand slightly when being filled; you can measure the change before and after filling with a tape measure.) However the point of this video was how pressure changes affect the body, and why scuba divers need regulators to control the pressure of the compressed air to match the pressure of the ambient water at different depths.

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 9 месяцев назад

      It doesn't really affect cylinders because they're basically uncompressable. If they're strong enough to keep 200 bar in, they can keep 5 bar out.

    But why? I have a question if anybody could answer it would be nice. When you take the balloon down the water the high pressure forces the surface of the balloon to shrink when sinking and expand on the way up because its pushing literally on the surface of the balloon, but aren't our lungs in our chest? like surrounded with bones, why does it change volume when going up or down? Do the actual ribs contract that much so they push on lungs? What if I put a balloon in a sealed glass bottle and did this experiment, would the same thing happen?

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 5 лет назад

      Bobb S It really does happen. A freediver holding their breath will have their lungs compress during a dive, though not completely. The lung tissue strengthens by filling with blood when under pressure, resisting the compression a bit. But your rib cage is quite flexible, not the ribs but the cartilage that connect them, which you'll notice when breathing or if you've ever seen CPR being performed. Also, your chest contains more than your lungs. Only the air compresses, the tissues and fluids do not. This means your chest cavity doesnt have to compress enough to cause damage. If you tried this with a balloon in a glass is or metal bottle the balloon would stay the same size since the pressure in the bottle won't change.

    • @JohnJones-iq7uj
      @JohnJones-iq7uj 5 лет назад

      so to answer your question, your lungs are surrounded by bone and tissue and meat and what not, but your lungs can become compressed because it's not the lung itself that's compressing. It's the air inside your lungs that is. That is the relationship between pressure from your depth under the water, and specifically air. The deeper you go, the more compressed the air becomes. It's also why a scuba tank doesn't last as long at 50 feet as it does at the surface, because the air inside the tank has been compressed and the volume has changed. Does this help to answer your question?

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 4 года назад

      *Bobb S* "...aren't our lungs in our chest? like surrounded with bones, why does it change volume when going up or down? Do the actual ribs contract that much so they push on lungs?" You can answer your own question by looking at your chest as you breath in and out. Your chest expands and contracts, and the volume of the "thoracic cavity" changes with it. Increasing water pressure squeezes the chest, which is why you can't just inhale underwater through a long hose; anything longer than a foot or so (the length of a snorkel) would be impossible to inhale through because of the squeeze.

  • @ricardomontalban6004
    @ricardomontalban6004 6 лет назад

    If you ascend with full lungs surely the expansion makes it escape out your face holes? It must actually take quite a conscious effort to hold your oesophagus closed against the pressure I would have thought. When I freedive exhaling on the way up is a really nice part of the dive( warmest too) that has always been instinctual with me.

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 5 лет назад

      Ricardo montalban Since people do actually get barotrauma you can empirically conclude that it doesn't automatically happen to everyone. Best not to count on it but train people so it becomes second nature.

    • @JohnJones-iq7uj
      @JohnJones-iq7uj 5 лет назад

      so people have died from holding their breath at depth and ascending to the surface. The most common cause is panic. The expanding air escapes from the lungs, and into the blood stream, causing an arterial gas embolism. Yes, it does require effort to hold your breath, but it does happen, and people have died from it, which is why divers are taught to never hold your breath.

  •  6 лет назад

    Volume argument is crap because your body does not change volume so drastically when you descend. Your lungs are not 1/5th of their size at 132ft - they're 20% as efficient as at sea level because of increased pressure. That is all assuming your muscles are able to get the ribcage open to the same level.
