    Im really interested in ecology and do lots of volenteering with my local land enviromental and land management group. I also do lots of river fly sampling with my da (im in year 11 at the moment). So i really wanna persue a carrer in ecology with my love for the outdoors but im worried the days could get quite lonley cos it seems your doing all that on your own. I like the volenteer group cos its lots of people working together to make our local area better so could i have an ecological job leading a team like that or is no? Im a very social guy so im genuinly a bit worried bout it. Thanks for the vid :)

    I learnt to dive in the UK I hated the whole process. My wife did her Open Water training in Egypt. However she did her AOW, RESCUE DIVER, and DEEP certification in the UK. She maintains diving is the best thing since sliced bread. I have to strongly disagree.

      I think you gain a lot of skills diving in the UK, especially really murky cold water. I must agree though diving abroad is way nicer! At the end of the day it’s bot for everyone.

      You are quite right it's not for everybody particularly if your first experience is diving in the UK.

      I feel if she had started, like, she did diving in warm, clear water with lots of pretty fish to look at. My opinion would probably be totally different.. Well, at least I can say I completed the course and have a c-card.

      @@NatureScopeYT Would love to reply yes two buckets full, but it was the absolute worst today haha! Not a single thing found, despite getting there at the crack of dawn, ideal with the tides. Other than some impressive dead crabs and fish that is. there will no doubt be children (lower to the ground, better eyesight) who found bundles, but not me. Better luck next time as they say.

    • @NatureScopeYT
      @NatureScopeYT 4 месяца назад

      Most of the sharks teeth will be from an extinct species of sand tiger shark called striatolamia macrota. You can also find Otodus Obliquus teeth (a very old extinct shark) and of course Megladon teeth if you’re very lucky!

    I've just seen that the boat to Skomer is fully booked for the whole of June. I don't know what's going on but this a complete change from 10-15 years ago when I last went and you could just turn up and buy a ticket, and if demand was high they simply lay on extra boats. Even in that situation the island was never over crowded.

    • @NatureScopeYT
      @NatureScopeYT 7 месяцев назад

      I suppose theres much more demand to visit now. When we went in May it was fully booked with boats arriving every 30 minutes between 10 and 2. Better to not overcrowd it.

    Great video! I have been in marine science for 6 years now, and have recently started to feel quite dissatisfied with the low pay. I have my masters degree and only make $55K. I have considered looking into an adjacent career path, still with my feet in the marine science field but perhaps not field-based so I earn more money. Do you have any ideas? I’ve considered environmental consulting as in the US you can make $75K entry level.

    • @NatureScopeYT
      @NatureScopeYT 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much! That would be my recommendation yeah, environmental consulting. I’m not sure if it’s as strict in the US but here in the UK there’s so many laws that people have to follow to do with wildlife and building that there’s so much money in it. It’s tricky though, if you can find a decent company it’s actually rewarding work, there’s a fair amount of bad ones out there though. One piece of advice I received that sticks with me was from a senior ecologist (fairly high level). He told me that the danger with environmental consultancy is you get comfortable with the money and he regrets never working for a charity or something similar. He was earning almost triple what I earn now as a full time marine biologist had a house, bills and a family who’d got used to the lifestyle he was able to provide. He told me he wishes he could leave and join a charity but felt stuck he needed the wage he was receiving now. Obviously I don’t know your circumstances but may be something to think about! - Adam
