Cora and Alice arrive at Fort William Henry, which is being besieged by the french and indian troops. Incredible scene, with the beautiful cinematography by Dante Spinnoti and gorgeous score by Trevor Jones.

Filmed not too far from here. They built a full scale replica of the fort.

During the Beaver Wars in the 17th century, The Mohawks (Iroquois) practically obliterated several large tribal confederacies, including the Mohicans, Huron (Wyandot), Neutral, Erie, Susquehannock (Conestoga), and northern Algonquins, with extreme brutality. The exterminatory nature of the mode of warfare practiced by the Mohawks and the Iroquois league caused some historians to label the Beaver Wars as acts of genocide committed by the Iroquois Confederacy. Funny how Oren Lyons, or nobody else, makes mention of this.

Someone said ,and I totally agree that Madeline Stowe's clothing could fall off her and men would still be gazing into her beautiful eyes !

It was an era when the westward expansion destroyed the culture and beauty of the wilderness. Daniel Day Lewis was excellent and moreorless all the cast was well appointed. Excellent Movie worth watching many times.

I believe all this you are telling us as many times as I seen this movie and I have to watch it at least once or twice a year That relationship between Michael and the gentleman who played his father and Daniel Day-Lewis That cannot be scripted into reality and the presence and the chemistry between actors that has to be cultivated and you say it was and it is clear that is So! I love how Daniel Day-Lewis tells Madeline Stowe about the brothers the Sun 🌞 and the 🌙 Moon and their mother who spread her soul across the Night Sky What a beautiful Story ... It's also my understanding that the Constitution is based on much of the Iroquois and Mohican civilization Much of our precepts in principles is taken by their form of what we call a Government of a "Civilized Nation!"

Sometimes the forces of the Universe bring together the right people, at the right time, with the right ideas. When I first saw this movie at the cinema, I had no idea what it was really about, other than childhood memories of the original movie on B+W television. When the movie finished I just sat silently in my seat, in awe of it's brilliance. The locations, the cinematography, the actors, the soundtrack, the rise and fall of emotions experienced whilst watching it. To this day, when I listen to the soundtrack, or watch the movie on DVD. Nothing has changed that opinion.

I really loved this film and it made me get the book…sadly the book was extremely difficult to manage and I had to skip huge chunks because half of it is in French and I speak exactly no French. Skipping pages at a time really killed my immersion. Why can’t someone write a full English version?

Every character was great. Daniel Day Lewis WAS Hawkeye and the other characters were the same. The environment was completely believable and all the characters from the arrogant English to the warped Magua. This and Tombstone are my two all-time favorite movies.

I fell in LOVE with this movie. I watched it repeatedly over the years. In 2014 I was dating a man I dearly loved who was Pawnee Indian. He was older than I and had two handsome grown sons. We were at home one evening and I went to put on a movie and of course I chose this one. He said ah no, I have seen this too many times. He said my sons played warriors in the scene where the Huron attack the British as they are moving through the forest away from the fort. They kill two British soldiers and scalp them. He got to be on set and watch them learn their roles. What a small world it is.

Romanticizing Native culture is always problematic. The Natives were universally warlike, constantly engaged in this activity, engaged in ritual cannibalism and torture for amusement. They were merciless and ferocious. Tribes were more interested in fighting traditional enemies, than uniting against the Europeans, which is one reason they lost. The other of course, was disease, which killed 90% of all natives, post Columbus.
