Too bad it looks like MTH decided not to include the prototypically correct winterization hatch that these units sported when first delivered, unless they're packaged separately inside the box. Nonetheless, those are beautiful engines. MTH makes good stuff.
Nothing is separately in the box for it but they are very beautiful

I have the blue 4000. But what's funny is when i address engine it always comes up as 4001?. Reset does nothing. I also noticed these engines have only 4 rpm steps
That's odd.i wonder if they loaded the 4001 program files into the locomotive?

I bought it from a local train shop that has since closed it's doors like 6 years ago brand new
Thanks for the vid. I have an old mth train that uses the AA like you have. Can i replace with BCR BATTERIES. ALSO if my train has been sitting around for a long time does the battery drain?
Your welcome and I wouldn't mess with the batteries.replace them with a bcr. A bcr is not batteries it's a capacitor that allows you to enjoy your locomotives without worrying about your electronics getting ruined with a battery and yes the battery drains when not in use

Cool engine. Glad to hear that your wife has a favorite train. My wife's favorite train is the one that is sold. lol. Anyway, I thought of you today while I was at the York train show. I spotted a Railking Aerotrain today and was torn to buy it. I love those engines, but I think that it was overpriced. They are hard to come by, but I couldn't pull the trigger on it. I have your video to watch on that engine, so I can get my fix whenever I need it. lol.

I have worked on the Arrow train at the Museum of Transport in St Louis I did a lot of volunteer work there when I was younger

Nice train review. A little more variety of footage when are explaining the history would be great. I love the look of the aero train. I have visited the train in Greenbay. It's in original unrestored condition and thankfully out of the elements.

The train's light weight hurt more than it helped--normal trains are heavy enough to make use of track flex (rails + ballast). These trains just bounced over the rails, and the ride was pretty harsh.
Yea there was reports where people reported almost hitting their heads on the ceiling of the coaches when they hit bumps

"First Rule of York" in full effect...You see something you want and the price is good, get it then 'cause if you come back for it later it'll be sold already.

Additional bit of info: Protosound-3 will automatically come up in conventional mode if it does not see a DCS signal on power up. The DCS switch you saw under the radiator housing switches between DCS and DCC. Once in a blue moon this switch will come from the factory installed backwards, causing much consternation till someone suggests throwing that switch to the other position.
I always thought dcc was for 2 rail operation and yea I have had some locomotives have it in that position and was like why won't it work lol
@@jgtrains1970 Some people have experimented with DCC in 3-rail fairly recently, but few have built any layouts around it as far as I know. Back in the day, DCC didn't play nice with the rough-and-tumble electrical environment that was 3-rail trains (AC motors, solenoid-driven accessories, etc) around the turn of the century, which allowed systems like Trainmaster and DCS to gain a foothold. MTH added DCC support when they devised a means to make its locomotives 3-rail/2-rail convertible by swapping wheelsets. It was probably more economical than producing two distinct lines of locomotives for 3-rail and 2-rail markets.
