Is this worth it? Any issues? Thinking about buying it
I recently had a problem with mine with a steady blue light at the bottom where motion sensor is. Called Ring support, they are sending a new replacement. No clue why the light is on, they think it's moisture since small amount of water collected in the battery compartment. As for 'is it worth it?", I've enjoyed it so far even though I receive notices from when the garbage truck passes to cats roaming my yard at night. Yea, I think it's worth it to have the extra "eyes" for my home.
Thanks for the update. It seems like most people think it’s not worth it, the battery dies within 1 week, Motion doesn’t work as good and the light comes on randomly for no reason.
KG ken I have not had battery life issues, in fact I was considering adding the solar or a 2nd battery but I'm impressed with the single battery life with the along of activity the camera detects. My opinion on the motion detection issues is that the Ring goes into a sort of sleep state to conserve power. Hence why the white-out at the start of the video. A sort of "wake-up". I've learned to tolerate it.
Good to know that’s there is 1 positve review about this device. Your quality of video seems to be good but i notice there is still that wake up period where it takes time for the video to clear. How far is your router from your camera?
I have a higher end TP Link router that is 60 feet away. I made it harder to get a WiFi signal; router is in a enclosed cabinet and has to shoot the signal through 2 walls, one of them an exterior wall with brick. My signal strength to the Ring camera is still very decent. I don't recall the exact upload and download speed but it was much higher than Ring's minimum required. I've read folks that complain about the product and I fault their issues more with their WiFi hardware and/or network. Yes, there is a wake-up phase for the camera - even the wired version doesn't appear to have the "always on" state. So the camera wakes-up, both camera and network is turned on, data sent, then routed to the app. Where as the live view, it's perfect because it is the network that wakes-up the camera not the motion sensor. Is the Ring perfect - No, but I have very similar issues with security cameras. The Ring app really works better than my security system app.
What was the cost of this upgrade and was the installation doable for the average individual. Thanks for your time.
I'd be interested to know that make and model of that stand supporting the HP and Netbox. Thanks for posting the vid - looks very clean like you said!
